“Clone High,” the animated MTV cult classic about a high school devoted to teenage clones of historical figures from creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller (the “Spider-Verse” franchise) and Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso”), returns with new episodes on Max 20 years after the cancellation of its sole season. The core group has thawed to confront a more complicated world of social media and new cultural norms, where “Riverdale” has replaced “Dawson’s Creek” as the coming-of-age template, complete with slightly more adult humor and even sillier situations — and fewer executive notes since the creators now wield greater power.
Back are Abe Lincoln (Will Forte), Cleopatra (Mitra Jouhari replacing Christa Miller), JFK (Chris Miller), and Joan of Arc (Nicole Sullivan). They are joined by new clone classmates Harriet Tubman (Ayo Edebiri), Frida Kahlo (Vicci Martinez), Confucius (Kelvin Yu), Topher Bus (Neil Casey as a canceled Christopher Columbus), and Sacagawea (Jana Schmieding). After 20 years, “Clone High” has returned with a second season after the teen animated series about a high school for clones of famous historical figures was revived by Max.
Created by Bill Lawrence, Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the show picks up two decades later after Abe (Will Forte), Cleo (Mitra Jouhari taking over for Christa Miller), JFK (Chris Miller) and Joan (Nichole Sullivan), among others, were frozen in the season 1 finale before the show was canceled over controversy related to one of its central characters, a young version of Gandhi (originally voiced by Michael McDonald).
While the series sees the main foursome returning after being thawed out in a very special season 2 premiere, Gandhi is not among them. In fact, the character is no longer part of the series, with “Clone High” revealing that he is still frozen.
Although he doesn’t physically return, there are several nods to...

There’s a funny little irony to the very existence of Max’s Clone High. Originally created for MTV in the early aughts, the animated comedy centers around a bunch of teenagers who are genetic copies of notable historical figures, reborn for a new era. Now the series itself has been resurrected with much the same DNA (creators Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence all return, as do most of the voice cast), but in a whole new environment. But just as characters like Abe Lincoln (Will Forte), Joan of Arc (Nicole Sullivan) and JFK (Miller) adjust to their new normal, so too does Clone High, serving up a new season that feels every bit as silly and sharp as the show did the first time around.

"Clone High" was a clever, silly animated show about genetic clones of famous historical figures — like Abe Lincoln, George Washington, and Marie Curie — getting sent to high school for an experiment. It served as a parody of high school dramas of the early 2000s like "Dawson's Creek" and "The O.C." And yet, the show quickly built an entertaining high school story of its own that was just as compelling, with the high concept shenanigans also letting the interpersonal romances breathe and shine.
The show was unceremoniously canceled by MTV due to both low ratings and protests about the portrayal of Gandhi in the series. Since then, creators Bill Lawrence, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller have all gone on to do rather impressive things. Lawrence co-created "Ted Lasso," and Lord and Miller helped revolutionize American animation with "Into the Spider-Verse."

Clone High was easily one of my favourite animated shows, but the series was cancelled in 2003 after just thirteen episodes. Now, twenty years later, the clones are back! HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Clone High revival, which features the return of Abe, Joan, Cleo, JFK, and a few new faces.
The original Clone High series was created by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Bill Lawrence, all of whom have returned for the revival. Dubbed a “modern refresh” of the original series, Clone High is “set at a high school for clones of historical figures. After a high school that was secretly being run as an elaborate military experiment to clone the greatest minds in history was put on ice, the clones have been thawed out 20 years later to resume the experiment with new clone classmates – all while navigating a new set of cultural norms and overly dramatic teen relationships.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of hits like "21 Jump Street" as well as the producers of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," are at the top of the food chain in Hollywood these days -- but it wasn't always that way. Earlier on in their careers, when they were green, they made a little animated show called "Clone High" for MTV that, despite gaining critical acclaim and a loving audience, lasted just one season. Now though, the show is coming back on HBO Max, and we've got a brand new teaser trailer for the revival of this cult classic.
Lord and Miller have put their powers to use to bring back their beloved series, with original voice actors Will Forte and Nicole Sullivan returning as well. Lord is also back as Scudworth, Miller as JFK and Mr. B, Christa Miller as Candide Sampson, Donald Faison as George Washington Carver, and Judah Miller as Scangrade.

Long before Phil Lord and Christopher Miller became household names with "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and Bill Lawrence took the sitcom world by storm with "Ted Lasso," the trio was responsible for a controversial animated comedy that lasted just one season. "Clone High" was a wild idea; a high-concept animated MTV sitcom about a high school full of clones of famous people that also served as a parody of teen shows at the time, it ultimately went off the air after its depiction of a clone of Gandhi inspired a hunger strike in India, according to Grantland.

A hotline to help detained immigrants seek legal counsel was allegedly shut down by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement less than two weeks after it was referenced on “Orange Is the New Black.”
The California-based Freedom for Immigrants nonprofit hotline was shut down on Aug. 7, according to a statement released by the group that operates the service. Since 2013, the toll-free hotline has been available to immigrants who are held in the United States’ immigration detention facilities. American prisoners have a right to a lawyer and a free phone call but detained immigrants do not have the same privileges, though they can make a free call to an Ice-approved list of legal services.
“Orange Is the New Black” dramatized how that situation impacts detainees in the recently released Season 7. Freedom for Immigrants was name-dropped in the series when Maritza Ramos (Diane Guerrero) called the hotline to find legal aid for her immigration hearing.

Calls are ongoing for the reopening of a toll-free hotline for detained immigrants that was shut down after it was featured in a episode of Orange Is The New Black.
The California-based Freedom for Immigrants says the hotline was shut down on August 7, about two weeks after the July 26 premiere of the final season of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black. It had been featured in the fifth episode of the final season, in which Maritza, played by Diane Guerrero, who has been detained by Ice, discovers a toll-free hotline she can call to get a free lawyer. As she joyfully tells Gloria about the hotline, Gloria quickly warns her, “You have to be careful, though. Apparently if they figure out that you’re using the hotline, Big Brother shuts it down.”
And lo and behold, that’s what happened, in real-life.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the finale of Orange Is the New Black!
The finale of Orange Is the New Black season six was one of the most memorable episodes ever, and that's in part to learning the fate of Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson (Danielle Brooks). She was found guilty of Correction Officer Desi Piscatella's death and sentenced to life in prison. So if there's one question we had while watching season seven, it's if Taystee would get the justice she deserved.
At the beginning of the season, Taystee has a hard time coming to terms with her reality. She tries to buy the drugs that killed Daddy (Vicci Martinez) so she'd die, too, but Dayanara Diaz (Dascha Polanco) won't give them to her. Taystee gets desperate and makes a noose out of her bed sheet. She starts choking, but doesn't go through with it. However, Daya lets Taystee work for her...

‘Orange Is the New Black’ Review: Social Commentary Meshes With Melodrama As the Final Season Begins
[Editor’s note: The review contains spoilers for “Orange Is The New Black” Season 7, Episode 1: Beginning of the End.]
The final season of “Orange Is the New Black” arrives on Netflix today and spoiler alert: Things get emotional.
Episode 1 kicks off with Piper (Taylor Schilling) trying her best to adjust to her newfound freedom — but as we’ve seen with other characters over the years, life outside Litchfield Correctional Facility isn’t exactly easy. Besides living with her brother, his wife and their infant daughter in a cramped apartment, tension with her father, money troubles, and being on probation add to Piper’s roadblocks. The latter provides a keyhole-sized look into the struggle that real ex-cons face with acclimating back into society while caught in the financial spin cycle of struggling to survive. Granted, Piper got herself into this mess so there’s no feeling sorry for her — at least she’s physically free.

According to The Blast, McClellan passed while surrounded by friends and her wife Monique. The singer had been diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer that had metastasized to her colon, bladder and intestines.
Born in Kingsport, Tenn. and raised in Gate City, Va., McClellan’s pre-Voice accomplishments included winning the New York National Music Festival in 2004 as Best Overall Performer among 500 contestants. She had recorded five independent albums without having been signed by a record label when she auditioned for The Voice.

They say old habits die hard, but they die even harder in Litchfield Maximum Security Prison. During season six of Orange Is the New Black, fans are introduced to yet another charming leading lady of lock-up, and she goes by the name of Daddy - well, Dominga Duarte - played by actress and The Voice competitor Vicci Martinez. During episode six, "State of the Uterus," we learn more about Daddy's background and what lands her behind bars in the first place. Surprisingly enough, she's *kind of* doing the same thing in Litchfield that she was doing before prison, and let us be clear: it is still very illegal.
Daddy's smooth yet felonious former ways of life are revealed during one of the many season six flashbacks, and well, there's no better way to put this . . . she was a pimp. She may have said, "Nobody f*cks with Daddy. And...

First came Co Bennett and Daya, then Co Coates Donuts and Pennsatucky, but outside of Litchfield, there's a guard-inmate relationship that Orange Is the New Black fans are swooning over. Dearest reader, we have a feeling you'll do the same. Co McCullough (Emily Tarver) and season six's newest bad girl, Daddy (Vicci Martinez), might seem like an unlikely match behind bars, but in real life, they're not only dating, but they're in a band together!
"We are super in love," Vicci told The News Tribune, a local newspaper from her hometown of Tacoma, Wa, about her relationship with her costar. "And we have a music group together. I've started to do music again. She's fulfilling my fantasy of doing duets together."
For Emily's birthday last month, Vicci posted a photo kissing her girlfriend with a caption that could melt even the coldest of hearts. "Happy Birthday to the woman of my dreeeeaaammmzzzz!

Season six of Orange Is the New Black brings new relationships, new flashbacks, and a whole lot of new drama, but one new character in particular steals the hearts of viewers and a few inmates, and that's Dominga Duarte aka Daddy. Daddy may be a drug-smuggling, problem-causing character, but she always looks out for her team, who she calls "Daddy's girls." Upon binge-watching the new season of the show and climbing out of a serious internet hole we're not ashamed of, we discovered that Daddy - actress and singer Vicci Martinez - appeared on season one of NBC's The Voice, where she came in third place.
Martinez was on Team CeeLo, and we are seriously blown away by her incredible voice. She's a powerhouse leader with a huge heart while playing Daddy, but the multifaceted artist is so much more, surprising all of us that Oitnb is her first major acting role.

Not sure where you've seen Orange Is the New Black's newest cast member? It's probably not her acting chops in a prison jumpsuit that caught your memory but likely her voice. Vicci Martinez, who plays the role of Daddy this season, is actually an established singer-songwriter with 10 albums, two EPs, and four chart-hitting singles under her belt. As a singer, songwriter, and now actress, she's quite the triple threat.
Martinez has appeared on all the singing shows: American Idol, Star Search, and even The Voice. She worked with mentor CeeLo Green on the latter back in 2011, placing third and landing a deal with Universal Republic.

Daddy is Martinez's first major acting role in a TV series. In fact, her only other acting role is a small unnamed part in the 2008 comedy flick Limbo. It'll be interesting to see how she fits...

When Orange is the New Black Season 6 premieres on Friday, July 27, the easy life of minimum security will be over.
Opening about a week after the riot that was the focus of Orange is the New Black Season 5, only about half of the central characters make it to the maximum security arm of Litchfield Penitentiary.
The rest are in the wind, perhaps to be shuffled in somewhere down the line or never to return.
The sixth season will continue following the lives of those involved with Litchfield, but this is the first time the I've wondered how the stories get decided.
Not everyone makes it to Max, and there are a few characters whose absence is noticed.

It was hard to know how “Orange is the New Black” would — or could — come back after its fifth season, which was as ambitious as it was ultimately disastrous. The show became as scattered and chaotic as the inmate protest-turned-riot it was trying to depict, sending every character spinning seemingly for the sake of it. By season’s end, two guards had died and the inmates were rounded up and shipped off to different prisons.
It’s understandable why, after four similarly structured seasons, the show was tempted to slow the story down to follow just a few extraordinary days in the characters’ lives. But in the end, the result was too thrilled with its own daring to make much sense. So the question was how Season 6 could recover without ditching its ongoing storylines and starting over with a whole new cast.

Maybe it’s time to stop saying The Voice does nothing to promote its alumni (even though none of ’em have achieved Carrie Underwood- or Kelly Clarkson- or even Chris Daughtry-level success).
Sure, Tuesday’s Top 6 results featured a random (and interminable) interview with the cast of the Entourage movie (did I hear The One With the Hair call it a “bigger, more epic, better… fantasy ride”?). But the one-hour telecast also made room for performances by four former contestants — Season 1’s Vicci Martinez, Season 3’s Avery Wilson, Season 5’s Jacquie Lee and Season 7 champ Craig Wayne Boyd.

If I were back in Catholic grade school, I suspect Sister Mary Rita would’ve kept me after class and sentenced me to a half hour at the chalkboard this afternoon, writing: “It does not matter who wins Season 4 of The Voice. It does not matter who wins Season 4 of The Voice. It does not matter who wins Season 4 of The Voice.”
And Sister Rita, smart cookie that she was, would’ve had a point. After Monday night’s Live Finals, the Top 3 acts — Michelle Chamuel, Danielle Bradbery and The Swon Brothers — all managed to land two songs apiece in the iTunes Top 10 Singles chart.

Out playwright/musician Gina Young is in Crystal Bowersox's new video for "Dead Weight." She's sitting to the left of her around the campfire.

The results are in! "The Voice" eliminated two more contestants: Dez Duron of Team Christina and Cody Belew of Team Cee Lo.
The Top 6 are: Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott (Team Blake); Melanie Martinez and Amanda Brown (Team Adam); and Nicholas David (and his bun) and Trevin Hunte (Team Cee Lo).
With Dez's elimination, Christina Aguilera no longer has any contestants in the running to win Season 3 of "The Voice."
The real treat of the night was Cee Lo Green bringing together his teams from three seasons to perform his song "All I Need Is Love" with the Muppets. Vicci Martinez, Tony Vincent, Nakia, Jamar Rogers, MacKenzie Bourg, and more sang with Cee Lo in Las Vegas and then Kermit and Cee Lo -- clad in a mirrored green ensemble (hat included) -- sang "It's Not Easy Being Green." It brought Fozzie to tears.
Plus, Amanda Brown and Trevin Hunte...
