Nicole doesn’t want Suzanne to go near the barn. It could be dangerous, she says. But some compulsion draws Suzanne towards the rickety old building again and again.
Turkish-Canadian director Onur Karaman is known for his rather spare and downbeat approach to cinema. In this, his first English language film, his has stripped away everything but the essentials. It’s clear early on that this replicates, at least to some degree, the experience of his central character. Suzanne (Stephanie Breton) is amnesiac and confused. Is she suffering from dementia? Is she drugged? How much of what we see through her eyes is real, how much a product of dreaming? For most of the running time we don’t know, and neither does she. All she knows is that her husband Normand (Alexandre Dubois) is missing, and she has to find out what was happened to him.

Comedian Mark Normand has announced his first hourlong special for Netflix, “Soup to Nuts,” which will hit the streaming site on July 25.
Since he was a kid, Normand knew he was interested in comedy. But once his mother doled out VHS tapes of the Marx Brothers, it became an integral part of his life. After watching it, he soon discovered comedians, films, shows and specials from the past, all due to his mother’s suggestion.
“I thought, ‘This is great. It’s all jokes. This is hilarious. Still holds up.’ Then I went into a deep dive, where you find Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy,” Normand told Variety. “And then it was my whole world.”
Since stumbling on old clips of Seinfeld, Normand has taken the stage with his comedy hero, opening up for the acclaimed comedian, as well as performing sets on late night TV,...

The ninth annual Miami Film Festival Gems will present Iranian filimmaker Jafar Panahi with the Precious Gem Award. The award will be presented virtually before Friday’s screening of “No Bears.”
The festival, sponsored by Miami Dade College, runs Nov. 3-10 at Mdc’s Tower Theater.
“I thank all the people involved in the Miami Film Festival, who considered me worthy of receiving this award.” Panahi stated in an audio message relayed from prison. ”But… I have dreams that go beyond all the awards in the world. I dream and have always dreamed that in the current situation my country is facing, I could be with my people and portray their struggle for freedom. I also wish that I could make films instead of receiving awards, because a filmmaker lives to make films. Anyway, I hope a day will come when I can make a film, and attend your festival with it.
