There are not many things that would have me out of bed and waiting for them at 3:00 in the morning, but I love the Daniel Craig era of James Bond, and I'm ready for the follow-up to "Skyfall." Sony's done a tremendous job of treating James Bond like the crown jewel of the company, and they're treating this next movie like a major event. My guess is that we're not going to have too many more films with Craig playing the role, so I want each one to be special at this point. The live-stream began about ten minutes out from the actual event, and so far it's just Bond themes, but as the details are announced, we'll update right here and then discuss the title once the event's done. Looks like they're making the announcements at the Bond Stage at Pinewood. Fitting. I've been outside that stage, but never inside it.

On Thursday morning, Sony held a splashy live-streamed press conference to announce the title and cast of "Bond 24." Director Sam Mendes revealed that the film will be called "Spectre," and features a sprawling line-up of stars.
The title is a reference to a classic Bond villain supergroup Spectre, a.k.a. Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. Among the actors assumed to be joining the film's Spectre lineup include Christoph Waltz, who's playing Oberhauser; Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy") as Mr. Hinx; and Andrew Scott, who's playing a character named Denbigh.
Rounding out the cast are returning actors Daniel Craig as James Bond; Rory Kinnear as Tanner; Ben Whishaw as Q; Naomie Harris as Ms. Moneypenny; and Ralph Fiennes as M. Also joining the ensemble for the flick are Léa Seydoux ("Blue Is the Warmest Color") as Madeleine Swann, and Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley sparkle in this tremendous telling of the story of Alan Turing, the cryptology and computer-science pioneer whose work broke Germany’s Enigma code during World War II but who later was hounded into suicide by the English government because he was gay.
As I say in my video review, this is easily one of the year’s best films, and I’m particularly impressed by the work of Cumberbatch and Knightley. The film also stars Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear and Matthew Goode.
Morten Tyldum directs, in his first English-language film, from a script by Graham Moore, based on Alan Hodges’ biography of Turing. Nora Grossman, Ido Ostrowsky and Teddy Schwarzman are producers. The Weinstein Company is handling U.S. distribution.
After a long string of almost weekly film festival screenings – including Toronto, Telluride and London – the film finally debuts in theaters Friday.
Will you see the film?...

Joining Daniel Craig in the next 007 movie? It might just be Rihanna, according to a new tabloid rumour.
Ah, the James Bond movie casting rumours. We've missed these. With production on the new 007 adventure set to begin in the next month or two, the only faces we know for definite returning are Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear and Naomie Harris. As for new names to the world of Bond? We're expecting announcements in due course, but they haven't been forthcoming yet.
Rumour of the day, then, is that Rihanna - last seen on the big screen in 2012's Battleship - is being lined up for a role.
It's come from a tabloid source, the Daily Mirror, so liberal doses of salt probably help in digesting this one. The Mirror, however, reports that she's been approached by the Bond team about taking a role in the new movie.

As Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who approaches, we look back over the months leading up to him being cast as the next Doctor…
Hindsight is fun. While it’s hard to spot patterns, coincidences or ironies while events are happening, hindsight (plus internet search engines) can reveal all of the above.
As series eight of Doctor Who approaches then, we thought it might be fun to dig back through the show’s official press bumf to see what was happening behind the scenes in the run-up to Peter Capaldi being announced as the next Doctor. When did the search for Matt Smith’s successor start in earnest? Who first suggested Peter Capaldi? Who knew he’d won the role, and when? What did he get up to in the months he knew, but couldn’t tell? And who had to tell a few porkies in order to keep the secret safe?...

Gemma Arterton and Stephen Mangan hosted the 2014 Olivier Awards yesterday evening, and it was a fine night for London’s theatre community.
The worlds of film and theatre are extremely close with many of the guests and nominees returning to the Royal Opera House a couple of months after the BAFTA awards took place here. Likewise success in one medium often translates to the other with a staggering fifteen years of Mamma Mia! being celebrated at the awards, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (from Oscar winner Sam Mendes no less) takes its place high on the agenda
It’s The Book of Mormon which is likely to continue its awards success, it made a huge splash last year and has been a hot ticket ever since. We were at the awards last night to interview the nominees and guests, Stefan Pape and Colin Hart were on the carpet grabbing whom they could.

Nimble-footed stars such as Nick Frost, Chris O'Dowd and Olivia Colman step lively in a comedy that doesn't quite fill the floor
This comedy never quite relaxes or convinces or comes together, despite a blue-chip pedigree and a great cast, including producer-star Nick Frost with Olivia Colman, Rory Kinnear, Chris O'Dowd, Ian McShane and Rashida Jones. All these big names are upstaged by Kayvan Novak, who steals the film with his very funny performance as an outrageously camp dancer called Bejan.
Frost plays Bruce Garrett, a shy, overweight office worker who abandoned his boyhood brilliance in the world of salsa dancing in shame after he was beaten up by bullies. But then, in early middle age, he falls for his gorgeous boss Julia (Jones) who happens to be a huge salsa fan, and Bruce sees a shot at redemption. The truth is that Nick Frost clearly can't dance salsa at all well,...

Kinnear wins awards for his debut play, The Herd, and his performance in Othello, while Almeida theatre comes out on top
Rory Kinnear has managed a rare double victory at this year's Critics' Circle theatre awards, winning one as an actor and another as most promising playwright (shared with Phoebe Waller-Bridge). The Almeida theatre came out on top, winning four awards including three for Chimerica, an epic cross-continental narrative that followed a photographer trying to track down the famous "Tank Man" of Tiananmen Square. Playwright Lucy Kirkwood, director Lyndsey Turner and designer Es Devlin all won awards for their work on the show, a co-production between Headlong and the Almeida.
"It's especially meaningful to have Lyndsey and Es recognised as well, because it was such a collaborative project," said Kirkwood, who downplayed rumours of a Broadway transfer for Chimerica, pointing out that the New York Times review of the show was not wholly positive.

Jenna Coleman has admitted that she was "an absolute wreck" after reading Matt Smith's final Doctor Who script.
Steven Moffat's 2013 Christmas special - Smith's last episode with the BBC sci-fi drama - is "sad" but "perfect", Coleman told The Observer.
"I just read the script the other night," Coleman revealed. "I'd been putting it off for ages and ages, because once you read the last page, that's it, the story is over.
"So I read 10 pages on the Tube and I stopped, and then I picked it up again the other day and finished it. I was an absolute mess, an absolute wreck."
Coleman concluded: "It's good - it's sad, but it's what needs to happen. It's perfect."
The 27-year-old actress also described Smith's successor Peter Capaldi as a "brilliant" choice to play the 12th Doctor.
"I don't think he was on any of the original lists," she said.

As 11 year-old Skunk (Eloise Laurence) approaches adolescence, she also seems to approach a higher level of awareness. While the world around her may still seem like a playground, Skunk begins to notice the violent and hateful underbelly of society. Everyone has their faults and blemishes -- Skunk, for one, has type 1 Diabetes -- and life is certainly not filled with rainbows and unicorns. Take the microcosm of the suburban London cul-de-sac where she lives with her father, Archie (Tim Roth), for example. Across the street, Mr. Oswald (Rory Kinnear) has been left to raise his three daughters on his own, thus Mr. Oswald has become a violent beast who flies off the handle at the drop of a hat, such as when one of his daughters claims that Rick (Robert Emms) -- a socially-troubled young man who still lives with his parents -- raped her. Mr. Oswald pummels poor Rick...

We got a brilliant, kaleidoscopic entertainment that evoked the National's past and opened up possibilities for the future
I count myself fortunate to have been part of the audience at Saturday night's celebration of the National theatre's 50th birthday. I don't know how it looked to viewers on BBC 2 or in cinemas at home and abroad. But, sitting in the Olivier, what we got was a brilliant kaleidoscopic entertainment that not only evoked the National's past but also, through astute recasting, opened up possibilities for the future.
Obviously it was moving to see legendary actors, either through archival footage or live performance, repeating past successes. There was a white-haired Joan Plowright, filmed at the Old Vic only last month, sternly replying to her accusers as Shaw's Saint Joan. There, too, was Maggie Smith – seen one moment on film rolling a wine glass across her forehead as the affectedly sexy Myra in Coward's Hay Fever,...

And with a shower of confetti the new star of Doctor Who exits the stage. I personally support this casting decisions of Peter Capaldi as I believe that the older actor will use his experience playing the infamous Malcolm Tucker and more recently the villain Cardinal Richelieu to lend a darker edge to the currently unreasonably slapstick presentation.
Although I dislike the costuming seen in his first official promo photo, I’m sure they will change to something more iconic much as Smith’s did.I like that they chose a fan over the Rory Kinnear “never seen an episode” type newcomers. The degree of respect and air or reverence the show has been lacking will hopefully be present in the upcoming episodes.

When Matt Smith announced he was leaving "Doctor Who" in June -- noting, 'When ya gotta go, ya gotta go" -- fans were sad to think about their beloved Doctor moving on.
And they're not alone. At San Diego Comic-Con last week, Smith said he's having trouble leaving all things Whovian behind. “I have pondered [the decision to leave] on several occasions and thought I’ve made a huge mistake,” Smith added this week at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour, according to the La Times. “What am I doing? Don’t leave!”
In an interview with Vulture, the actor revealed a few things he plans to take with him, so he'll always have a piece of the Doctor close to him.
"I plan on taking the sonic screwdriver," Smith confessed, before adding, "And I’ll take my jacket, probably. I’m really sad to be leaving! I love the show!"

Doctor Who's Steven Moffat has said that the hunt for a new Doctor is "just terrifying".
The showrunner told Entertainment Weekly that there are "different ways you could go" in casting a replacement for Matt Smith.
"If you're a Doctor Who fan, as I have been all my life, you've been doing fantasy casting for this part for as long as you can remember," he explained.
"But when you're suddenly faced with the reality that you are going to sit there and you are going to make that decision it does feel absolutely chilling.
"There's a very big range of people who could play it and different ways you could go with it. We must get this right. One false move and the show's over."

Review Jake Laverde 11 Jul 2013 - 06:30
Already renewed for a second series, Jake checks out the first episode of Count Arthur Strong's television show...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 Memory Man
Steve Delaney, in character as Count Arthur Strong, has been on the live circuit since the late nineties. He made the leap to radio in 2005 with, appropriately enough, Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show, picking up awards during its seven-series run. So why has it taken until 2013 for him to get onto TV?
The simple answer is that the studio sitcom is currently enjoying a welcome resurgence. Miranda, Citizen Khan, Not Going Out, Red Dwarf X and Vicious have all enjoyed great success showing there's plenty of life in the format. There's also Mrs Brown's Boys but let's put that aside for a moment. After The Office became a hit, there was a feeling that studio sitcoms were old-fashioned pantomime.

Julian Rhind-Tutt is one of the latest names to be linked with the lead role in Doctor Who.
The Green Wing star is said to be among BBC producers' list of actors being considered for the next Time Lord, following Matt Smith's departure at Christmas.
Rhind-Tutt was reportedly one of the last few contenders to be The Doctor after David Tennant left in 2010, according to The Sun.
Torchwood actor Burn Gorman is also apparently one of the final contenders for the role.
Threesome's Emun Elliott and Richard Coyle - who worked with Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat on Coupling - are also thought to be on the wishlist.

Craig Charles has revealed that he would be interested in the lead role in Doctor Who.
The Coronation Street actor - who is already a sci-fi icon in Red Dwarf as Dave Lister - said he would be up for becoming the first black actor to play the Time Lord.
While he admitted the chances were slim, Charles said it would be an honour to hop from Starbug to the Tardis.
"Yeah, having a black Doctor Who would be double cool," he is quoted as saying in Purple Revolver.
"To be asked by the Beeb would be great, it's such a classic show.

Kim Cattrall has been coming in for some criticism for her 'Garfield'-like hairpiece on stage in London. Is this really the worst wig of all time?
Critic Mark Shenton suggested she looks "like a cross between Lucille Ball and Marj Proops"; Quentin Letts of the Daily Mail asked, a little ungallantly, "is that Garfield, sat on her head?". The reviews for the London Old Vic's new production of Tennessee Williams's Sweet Bird of Youth have been good, on the whole – but the same can't be said of Kim Cattrall's hairpiece, which Shenton went on to dub "the worst wig".
Which got us thinking: is that (reproduced above in all its Garfield glory) really the most awful wig of all time? Worse than Tommy Lee Jones's roiling, terminally unstable black coils in Lincoln?
Worse than Rory Kinnear's Matted Old-Testament Hermit Hair in The Revenger's Tragedy?

Former Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill has backed Dame Helen Mirren to be cast as the next Doctor.
The BBC has not ruled out casting a woman as the next incarnation of The Doctor once Matt Smith leaves the series, and Oscar winner Mirren has emerged as a frontrunner.
Mirren suggested this week that it is "absolutely time" for a woman to play The Doctor, and now she has been backed for the role by former Doctor Who star Darvill.
"I suppose it could be a woman," Darvill told Anglophenia. "I don't know. I think it is a male part, though I think it's just about the person."
He added of Mirren: "I'd love to see Dame Helen do it - best of luck to whoever gets it, though."
The actor also revealed that he has been aware that current Doctor Smith was considering leaving the series for quite some time.

Dame Helen Mirren has suggested that it is time for a woman to take the lead role in Doctor Who.
The Oscar winner has emerged as a favourite to replace Matt Smith as the next incarnation of The Doctor, along with Miranda Hart, Rory Kinnear and Ben Daniels.
In an interview with The AP, Mirren was asked to comment on one bookie putting her at 25/1 odds of landing the coveted role.
"Oh, please - I would put much longer odds on it than that," the actress quipped.
Mirren went on to express her opinion that it is "absolutely time" for a woman to play the Time Lord.
"I'm so sick of that man with his girl sidekick," she declared. "I could name at least ten wonderful British actresses who would absolutely kill in that role."
Doctor Who companion Jenna-Louise Coleman recently insisted that the process of selecting the next Doctor will take quite some time.

After a weekend where there's been one rumor after another on who will take over the lead role in "Doctor Who," two things seem to be true: There was no announcement on Sunday, and the new Doctor is not Rory Kinnear. Kinnear is not exactly a household name in the United States, except for those who are James Bond fans. Kinnear played Bill Tanner, the righthand man to the head of MI6 where Bond works, in the more modern film series, including the recent "Skyfall." But then again, the BBC has not been known for casting well-known people into the role of The Doctor, so such a move wouldn't be surprising. Yet, Kinnear's people say he's not been cast. And while he does have an upcoming project with the BBC, it's not "Doctor Who." "Everything in the papers about Rory Kinnear being asked ...

So, there’s rumor, and then there’s rumor, and then there’s trying to figure out who will be the new Doctor Who. On the other hand, once the bookies stop taking bets, someone might be onto something.
The story goes that Rory Kinnear may have the part if he wants it, and I like the choice. Why? Basically, if I had to guess right this second, he’s a choice that means that maybe we are moving more toward a 4th and 5th Doctor character, who puts a more laid back spin on the role. I think that’s a good move. Much as I’ve enjoyed the last two Doctors, the pendulum has slowly swung about as far as it can go.

As Matt Smith confirms he's quitting Doctor Who, Simon looks at the Twelfth Doctor casting conundrum, and when we might find out more...
The confirmation that Matt Smith was quitting Doctor Who, which landed at midnight on Sunday, was sad but not unexpected. Over the past few weeks, we've had several good sources telling us he was leaving the show (given the number of Matt Smith quitting rumours doing the rounds, we elected not to run the story at that stage). However, as David Tennant has said himself, when you're playing the Doctor, the constant question is when you've going to leave the show. Following that, the question is when are you coming back.
Well, we've got some answers. Matt Smith will be stepping down as the Eleventh Doctor in the Christmas special this year, and that's when the Twelfth Doctor will be taking ownership of the Tardis.
