President Trump wants Tuesday’s midterm elections to be about immigration. The economy is doing well, but it’s complicated and boring. Health care, too, is a confusing issue, so much so for the president that during his final pre-election rally Monday night, he warned that Democrats would “obliterate Obamacare,” a piece of legislation Republicans have been frothing at the mouth trying to dismantle for years. But xenophobia is a powerful political tool, and Trump has done all he can to transform the caravan of Central American migrants fleeing oppression into a tentpole campaign issue.

Sun Valley, Idaho — Jeff Bezos had the Allen & Co. conference crowd transfixed on Thursday morning as the Amazon CEO spoke about the evolution of his company, what he looks for in leaders, and his ambitious plan to develop the world of outer space for the betterment of humanity.
Bezos was the headliner of Day 3 of the annual gathering of media and tech bigwigs in the Sun Valley Lodge mountain resort. The schedule also included a session with King Abdullah II of Jordan and his wife, Queen Rania, and Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
But Bezos was the session that everyone was talking about as conference attendees broke for lunch and afternoon meetings and recreational activities.
“He has such a big brain,” gushed one attendee.

President Donald Trump went live across broadcast and cable news networks at 6:01 Pt tonight to announce that he has authorized precision air strikes on targets in Syria.
“A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” the president said in a nearly 8-minute address. Watch it above; the transcript is below.
Trump did not offer many details of the strikes but said they would continue until the chemical attacks cease. But that statement was refuted less than an hour later during a Pentagon press briefing by Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis and Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mattis stressed that tonight’s action was a one-time shot purely on chemical weapons facilities. You can watch that news conference below.
