Jonathan Sacks was born on 8 March 1948 in Lambeth, London, England, UK. He was married to Elaine Taylor. He died on 7 November 2020 in London, England, UK.
He served for 22 years as chief rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, widely seen as the leader of British Jewry (although not by the Haredi or Reform groups). He wrote more than 30 books on Orthodox Judaism. In 2016, he was awarded the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion.
