It’s hard to say what’s more absurd, the plot of “The Son of No One” or director Dito Montiel’s storytelling choices. The film relies on a ridiculous premise that would be distracting in a finely crafted work. Add that to this jumbled mess, and it makes for a cinematic disaster.
Presumably Montiel’s material looks better on paper, because he assembled a pretty impressive cast. Channing Tatum plays Jonathan White, a cop who has returned to the force in the same Queensborough precinct where his father worked before he was killed in the line of duty. The story takes place in 2002, in a New York still recovering from 9/11, and flashes...
