- Antonius Rex is a Italian progressive rock band known for it's dark sound and occult-themed lyrics. Although it would eventually gain a cult following for it's innovative sound, the progressive rock community found the band to be dark and strange.
Antonius Rex was initially formed without a name by composer and guitarist Antonio Bartocetti in the mid-1960s, who chose "Antonius Rex" as a publishing alias, along with keyboardist Doris Norton and percussionist Charles Tiring. The band acquired the name "Jacula" after the artist of a Italian comic book of the same name got the band their first record label contract. Their first album "In Cauda Semper Stat Venenum" was released in 1969 and eventually reissued in a heavily altered version, followed by "Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus" in 1972. When two of the tracks from the second album were released in a slightly remixed single under the band name Invisible Force, the band split, disagreeing with Bartocetti's decisions.
In 1974, Jacula reformed under the name Antonius Rex, releasing the album "Neque Semper Arcum Tendit Rex", followed by "Zora" (1977), "Ralefun" (1978) and "Anno Demoni" (1979). Although the band would start to see success with the 1980 release of "Praeternatural", they split, until the 90s, when their sound had gained a cult following. Antonius Rex would continue recording and performing live until 2017, when the band finally ended for good.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous
