Sher Bach
Having the last name Bach and a connection to the lineage of one of the
most famous composers in history, it seemed only natural that she would
be interested in music. Sheryl Ann Bach (aka Sher) was immersed in
piano lessons at a very young age, after she expressed a talent for
teaching herself to play and an incredible ear for melody and harmony.
A lover of all things creative, singing, dancing, acting, writing...at
the age of 16, armed with a fake ID and a dream, she took off for the
"Big Apple" to pursue a career in entertainment. After her first 3
months in NYC, famed agent Mambo Hye hired her as a dancer to perform
in clubs in Midtown Manhattan. She later became known as "Peppermint",
a back-up singer/dancer for Ruby and the Rednecks, a popular band in
the 1970's rock scene in NYC, fronted by Ruby Lynn Reiner of Andy
Warhol's "Factory" fame. It was then that she met Jay Malla and formed
what was to become a close and important relationship, spanning over 35
years. She later joined Jay's band, Revolver, as a back up singer,
continued to dance in various clubs in NY and NJ, and performed in
several theatre productions. Sher married Gene (Knapp) Harlot, the lead
singer for the Harlots of 42nd Street and they had one son, Kristian.
In 1977, Sher joined Aucoin Management, (KISS, Starz, Piper, Toby Beau)
as a receptionist and quickly moved to the promotions department to
work under Ric Aliberte and Gail Rodgers. When Aucoin began to suffer
the common "Excess from Success" syndrome, Sher went to work with Barry
Imhoff (The Band/Michael Shrieve) who hired her as his assistant. It
was during these years that she formed and maintained relationships
with people in the music and entertainment world, most of whom she is
still close with. After divorcing Gene, Sher remarried Disc Jockey
Mandy (Jorge Armando) Papaleo, gave birth to another son, Michael and
they re-located to Puerto Rico. She continued to perform in musical
theatre and became an aerobic dance instructor. She hosted a 10 minute
aerobic segment on "Ellas Al Media Dia" (Canal 5), a Spanish- speaking
show similar to "The View". While on hiatus from "Ellas" she accepted a
position as Operations Manager for "Peggy Sue" a very successful (think
Studio 54) rock/disco nightclub in San Juan, booking local and
stateside music acts, and coordinating "specialty promo parties" with
various liquor distributors, (Bacardi, Don Q, et al). She divorced
Mandy and returned to NYC in the late 80's, joining David Krebs
(Aerosmith, AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Adam Bomb) to run the Krebs
Communications office. At the time, David had a startup magazine,
"National Times", and still managed a few music artists. Shortly
thereafter, she moved to Crescent Publishing as the Administrator to
the Sr. VP, assisted the editorial department and wrote short articles
for various publications, such as PlayGirl Magazine. Finding better
opportunities in Nashville while on vacation there, she moved in 1997.
She accepted a position as the office manager at Country Weekly
Magazine, hoping against hope that an editorial spot would open up.
When none did, she was offered a major role in entertainment law at
Benson Law Offices, whose clients consisted of The Righteous Brothers,
Tammy Cochran, The Everly Brothers, Karen Brooks, Shania Twain, Jim
McBride (Chattahoochie) Phil Barnhart (Broken Wing) Chas Sandford
(Missing You), Todd Smallwood (partnership with Mick Fleetwood) and a
slew of other singer/songwriters. Sher studied under the tutelage of
famed entertainment attorney Craig Benson, grasping the important
aspects of contractual and IP law, royalty issues and public relations.
She was responsible for increasing Mr. Benson's client base by 40% and
collected over $200,000 in overdue payments from clients, She also
assisted in obtaining back royalties, selling music catalogues and
getting clients out of contractual deals that were not serving their
careers. In 2009, Sher moved to Los Angeles and was paramount in
resurrecting MEG, reuniting her with her old friend, Jay Malla. With
over 30 years both in front and behind the scenes, Sher has amassed an
impressive list of contacts in the entertainment business. She is able,
probably due to the fact that she's an entertainer herself, to nurture
a talent worth nurturing, watering the seeds of success until they're
in full bloom. Knowing that it's all about doing your homework, she
takes on the task of finding creative talent that will work well with
MEG and attempts to coordinate the meet and greet that is so essential
to an artist's career. In June of 2012, Sher will be running operations
from MEG's new office in Nashville, TN.
