Syfy has opted not to renew Nightflyers for a second season. A rep for the network confirmed to Deadline that Syfy would not be picking up additional episodes of the high-profile space horror drama based on the novella by George R.R. Martin.
Nighflyers, which went straight-to-series after Netflix came on board as co-producer/international distributor alongside Ucp, had a multi-platform rollout in December, with all 10 episodes debuting across all Syfy platforms timed to the beginning of the linear telecast.
The series’ linear ratings were pretty modest despite stunts that included telecasts with limited commercial interruption across all platforms and weekend marathons giving fans an additional opportunity to catch up on the series.
Nightflyers had been conceived as an ongoing series but I hear that following its freshman season run, Syfy brass concluded that it was better off as a one-off limited series. The options on the cast were let to expire,...

“Nightflyers” begins with a compelling sequence taken from late in its story’s action, in which Dr. Agatha Matheson (Gretchen Mol) is fighting for her life on a space journey gone horribly wrong. She’s fleeing an assailant who seems compelled by something unearthly, and goes on to send a warning to whomever out there is listening not to bring her ship back to Earth but to leave it where it lies, a vessel too compromised to breach our familiar atmosphere. She goes on, within the show’s first five minutes, to kill herself.
It’s a striking opening to a show that doesn’t quite earn it. “Nightflyers,” based on the pre-Westeros writing of George R. R. Martin, is a fine addition to an onscreen canon that’s already well-stuffed — that of the space horror story. But it flails when it comes to doing anything new with a metaphor that’s been worn thin,...

It's only the first official day of San Diego Comic Con but we already have some significant science fiction to tide us over for fall.
In addition to Doctor Who and Origin, we can now add George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers to the list.
These people are going to have to fight harder to stay alive than they've ever fought for anything.
In 2093, in hopes of making contact with a mysterious alien life at the edge of our solar system, a group of maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition aboard The Nightflyer.

It's not long before their main mission becomes survival.

George R.R. Martin has a pretty hot brand right now. Game of Thrones has been absolutely killing it on HBO ever since its premiere back in 2011, and while one could chalk that up to the copious amounts of sex and violence, there’s no doubt that the series has its foundation in amazing characters and storytelling. Given the success of this series, as well as Martin’s experience in television as a writer and series executive producer, it was only a matter of time before some of his other properties got the small screen treatment.
TheWrap is reporting that Syfy is developing a supernatural thriller based on Martin’s novel Nightflyers (Which was adapted into a film back in 1987). In case you have no idea what the book is (which I’ll assume is most of you), the outlet describes it as follows:

Syfy is giving itself an extreme makeover. And as part of the network’s reboot, it has ordered to series the long-awaited Superman prequel “Krypton” to series, as well as an adaptation of the quirky graphic novel “Happy!”
The network is also developing an adaptation of the George R.R. Martin novella “Nightflyers,” and, as previously announced, has partnered with Blumhouse Television to develop a new TV chapter of the feature franchise “The Purge” (which will also air on USA Network).
To emphasize the changes, the network unveiled a new logo and look across its platforms. The name hasn’t changed (although that was discussed — including a return to the original Sci-Fi moniker), but now it’s in all-caps: Syfy.

We've seen one image from the Craig Gillespie-directed 3D remake of the '80s horror classic Fright Night, but the three images below are the first real look we've had at the upcoming film. The movie tells the story of a suburban kid (Anton Yelchin) who, amid dealing with a new girlfriend (Imogen Poots) and estrangement from his old best friend (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) discovers that his neighborhood is now home to a vampire (Colin Farrell). Check out the stills below. I know that Colin Farrell gets a lot more monstrous-looking than what you see below. I've seen the actual makeup appliances, and they were pretty great. (And created by FX vet Howard Berger.) In fact, this shot is from the tail end of the scene where the vampire really reveals himself for the first time. He's described as looking like a shark in part of the script for the scene,...

Today, we’re here to update our previous reports, because guys from DreamWorks have finally shared some official synopsis with us! Make sure you check it out:
“Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend.
But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice.

The upcoming remake of the 1985 horror comedy "Fright Night" is getting some new blood. The BBC's "Doctor Who" star David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of the upcoming movie, which already stars Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell.
In the movie, Yelchin plays Charlie, a teen who believes that his new neighbor, played by Farrell is a vampire. Tennant will play a Las Vegas magician who claims to be a vampire expert, but proves less than helpful. Mintz-Plasse, who recently starred in "Kick-Ass," plays Evil Ed, a friend of Charlie's who joins the vampire's coven.
Toni Collette is also set to play Charlie's mom, who doesn't believe her son's claims before falling under the vampire's spell. Craig Gillespie, who directed Collette in episodes of "United States of Tara" as well as "Lars and the Real Girl," is set to helm the remake.
