Born in Long Beach California in 1959, Darrell was the first born son of an Oregonian gypsy Patricia and her Californian husband Patrick. Darrell spent his childhood being moved from one city to the next as his mother sought to discover herself, feed her kids and find God. With lengthy stays in beach communities in Orange County his childhood was filled with adventurous days at the beach surfing, skateboarding, snorkeling, sailing and chasing beach bunnies.
He attended six(6) elementary schools, two(2) middle schools and four(4) high schools before he started his college circuit, which includes seven(7) community colleges and one state college. Finally graduating from Rod Serling's and Leonard Nimoy's Alma Mater, Antioch University.
He became interested in film, acting and dance at an early age, staying up to all hours of the night to watch old westerns, horror films and musicals. While in middle school and high school he pursued video and film camera and editing studies, stage acting, set design and dance.
In 1975-76 while living in North Hollywood, where he went to his final high school, Darrell made several friends whose parents worked for the major studios including NBC, CBS, Disney, Warner Bros. and Paramount. While there he would get invited to or sneak onto studio lots and visit sets of films and television shows including The Blue Knight, Happy Days, Charlie's Angels, and Love American Style. This experience strengthened his desire to become a film artist.
In college he sought to strengthen his dance and acting skills by focusing on those two endeavors, gaining employment at Disney and certain nightclubs in the Greater Los Angeles area. He was forced to give up a promising professional career as a dancer and actor in order to finance his growing family.
Since 1979 he has been supporting his family and hobbies as a software engineering while also continuing to participate in the theatre and film arts on an amateur level as well as the study of creative writing.
Since 1995 he has lived and worked in the Sacramento area, while pursuing a BA degree in Creative Writing and participating in local film festivals such as The Sacramento International Film Festival, the Sacramento Music and Film Festival, Livermore Valley Film Festival and A Place called Sacramento Film Festival. Darrell is focusing on finishing all his Honey-Do projects and completing the 15 or more scripts and novels he started back in 1979.
Darrell is has been married to his second wife Michelle since 1988 and has five(5) children from two marriages.
