Here's a cool series of fan-made poster art created by Dean Walton showcasing five of the nine films that have been nominated for Best Picture at the 2013 Academy Awards. I think there's a good chance that Argo could take the top prize, all of the films nominated are so good, that I actually wouldn't have a problem with any of them winning. The movies include Argo, Beasts of Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Mierables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, and Amour. I will admit though that I'm rooting for Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook. What movies are you rooting for?

Life of Pi by Dean WaltonI was just looking as a series of graphic Best Picture prints designed by Dean Walton and my mind wandered into a geeky Oscaroborus that I couldn't break free of. The series of prints is referred to as a "full series" but there's only five: Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty, Les Misérables, and Lincoln. Um. There are nine Best Picture nominees this year, Dean!
It got me to thinking. I don't even think those would have been "the five", had there been just five. It's not so easy to discount Argo, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild and Silver Linings Playbook given the final vote tallies. I think we might have had a year of 3/5 Picture/Director split year. Or even gasp 2/5... which has happened before believe it or not.
Way back in 1955 the Best Picture nominees were: Marty, Picnic, Love is a Many Splendored Thing,...

The idea of travel posters featuring the fictional locations and characters from some of our favorite films is nothing new. We've seen some cool art highlighting New York and its Ghosbusters, Metropolis and its Superman and a whole batch of vintage posters for films like Airplane, National Lampoon's Vacation and much more. Now another set is here that takes the focus to space and some of the coolest and most dangerous planets we've ever seen. From Pandora to Mars (okay, that's a real planet), these posters use cool taglines and even the logos of fictional companies from films like Total Recall for some great prints. Look! Here are the cool travel posters by Dean Walton via SlashFilm: You can see more of Dean Walton's work right here. And if any of the above prints tickle your fancy enough to frame on your way, you can purchase posters right here.

In Robert Zemeckis' Back To The Future trilogy we get to see the town of Hill Valley, California, at different points over 130 years of time. The central landmark is the Clock Tower, which goes through many changes and plays a vital role throughout the films. Here's a little Hill Valley Travel Poster series by artist Dean Walton paying homage to the fictional town of Hill Valley a.k.a., the Universal backlot. The only thing missing in this series is the 1985 poster. But if you live in the year 1985, you'd likely not want to visit the year 1985. Unless, of course, you had to go back... to the future.

Big bada boom! One of our personal favorite artists has whipped up a fantastic new series of poster art for five contemporary sci-fi flicks. His name is Dean Walton, aka Mr. Shabba, an illustrator/designer out of the UK. We featured his classic sci-fi series of posters and received some rather rough comments, but I personally love his art and I love that he designs for some of my own sci-fi favorites, especially this time. In his Contemporary Sci-Fi series, he's designed The Fifth Element (1997), Avatar (2009), The Matrix (1999), District 9 (2009) and Total Recall (1990), which is stretching it for "contemporary", but it works. Here's Dean Walton's new sci-fi series of posters - click on any below to head to an info page for each movie. I love the colors and the simplicity yet iconic nature of his work, I just think these are refreshing to look at. Each one ...

Dark and gritty, just like the movies they represent, Dean Walton's sci-fi classic poster series does minimalism right. These posters for Blade Runner, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Alien, 2001 A Space Odyssey and The Terminator hearken back to Walton's (who often goes by his art name Mr. Shabba) 2011 Oscar nominee posters [1], grabbing one image and infusing it with smaller ones. They're also undeniably influenced by Olly Moss's sought after Mondo Star Wars series [2], which certainly isn't a bad thing. Check out each image below and find out how you can purchase your own. If you'd like to pick up one, or all of these posters, head to Mr. Shabba's store [3]. [gallery columns="2"] That qualifies as Cool Stuff, no? Which is your favorite? Here is a beautiful poster series from Dean Walton which celebrates classic sci-fi films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, E.T., The Terminator and Blade Runner. I would have loved to see a poster for Star Wars and Star Trek, but these are awesome.
Check out the images below:
As usual, each of these posters a being printed in a limited edition of 100. They can be purchased for 20£ ($32.17) or 25£ ($40.21) depending on the size you get. They come in two sizes - A2 is 16.5" x 23.4" or A1, slightly bigger, at 23.4" x 33.1". You can buy the entire series of five for 75£/90£, if you have money to splurge.

We stumbled across yet another stunning set of posters that I can't help but share, even if we've seen posters for these movies a thousand times over. This series comes from UK art shop Mr Shabba! and were designed by Dean Walton (also of last year's Oscar series) to celebrate some of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. They're talking real sci-fi classics, not just Independence Day, but films like: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, E.T., The Terminator and Blade Runner. Noticeably missing is any Star Wars or Star Trek, but that's okay this time as these are still gorgeous! Check 'em out - you can even buy prints (click on each), too! All five of these are stunning, especially considering it looks like these might have actually been painted, or hand-drawn at least. Each one is being printed in a limited edition of 100, exclusive to Mr Shabba, for...
