“The Great” Season 3 contains some titanic shifts of character — and actors — so even though AP European History has already spoiled the broad strokes of the Hulu series, spoilers ahead.
Catherine (Elle Fanning) grieves in the last five episodes of the season, leading to an eventual, equally tragic and thrilling transformation that brings her closer to becoming a great ruler with a capital-g, capital-r. But underneath the ice — metaphorically speaking, not the literal ice-covered lake into which Peter (Nicholas Hoult) falls and drowns — showrunner Tony McNamara and casting director Dixie Chassay and her team did a lot to make sure the show always felt full even with Peter gone.
Some of this happens by keeping Hoult around, playing Peter’s double Pugachev, who rabble-rouses at the behest of Archie (Adam Godley) and then starts liking all this arousal a little too much. The show also makes strategic additions to the regulars of Catherine’s court.

In season one, Viscount Bridgerton was less hero than impediment. The eldest Bridgerton son, he assumed responsibility for the matches of his younger siblings Daphne and Colin, and spent the season throwing his weight around – sometimes literally in the case of the punch-up and dual with Daphne’s suitor Simon. Anthony attempted to control everybody else’s marriage responsibilities while refusing to face up to his own. His mistress Siena Rosso eventually made the decision for him, recognising that an opera singer with her past would never be found respectable enough to become a society Viscountess. Siena moved on, and urged Anthony to do the same.
In season two, Anthony’s search for a wife is centre-stage, making actor Jonathan the romantic lead. It’s not the first time the actor has told a love story in his established stage and screen career, which started in his childhood with the Royal Shakespeare Company,...

A mixed bag, all told.

I've been very excited to see this ever since hearing it was now in production. From Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, comes this dramatic thriller about the early days of electricity and light bulbs, and the major business-vs-innovation battle of wits that took place. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, and Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla, as well as Katherine Waterston, Tuppence Middleton, Damien Molony, and Matthew Macfadyen. This is a fantastic trailer, full of energy and excitement, with some very creative editing and visuals. I'm still so very excited to see this film. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's The Current War, direct from YouTube: The Current War...

Just out is this fascinating movie, based on the stage play “Radio Luxembourg” by Mick Donnellan. Two Irish men, Joe and Paddy, mercenaries of some sort, are driving through the semi-desert landscape of an unnamed country, bantering about their lives; then they stop to kill a guard post full of local soldiers, then they carry on with their day as if they’d only stopped to get a coffee.
The first half of “Tiger Raid” is essentially a two-hander, and it’s kudos to actors Brian Gleeson (Joe) and Damien Molony (Paddy) for inhabiting the characters so well, two men who look legitimately filthy and worn out – it was a surprise to check their IMDb page and find two clean-cut men looking back. There’s no easy way to categorise either man, as the power in the relationship shifts as they go along. They both work for a man called Dave,...

Brian Gleeson (brother of Domhnall Glesson) and Damien Molony star as two mercenaries teetering on the edge of sanity in Simon Dixon’s gritty debut feature, Tiger Raid. The film picks up when the two professionals take a job to kidnap the daughter of a powerful Middle Eastern politician, played by Star Trek Beyond’s Sofia Boutella, and the years of violence come crashing to a head. Tiger Raid premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, where early reviews praised its brashness, the performances of its three main leads, as well as the confluences of a surprising plot. The trailer certainly highlights a character driven story at the centre of a decidedly R-rated work. Heres the official synopsis: "Joe and Paddy are members of a private security crew...

Yes, there is another actor from the Gleeson family. While his brother Domhnall and father Brendan Gleeson have worldwide attention for their various roles, Brian Gleeson has been receiving acclaim on the Irish TV and film circuit. Ahead of a part in Assassin’s Creed and Darren Aronofsky‘s next film, he’ll be seen in Tiger Raid, which screened at Tribeca Film Festival this year.
Directed by Simon Dixon, the first trailer has now arrived for the film, which follows Gleeson and Damien Molony (Kill Your Friends) as they are assigned to kidnap a character portraying by Sofia Boutella, who will be seen in Star Trek Beyond this month. The trailer paints an intense, small-scale drama, and will hopefully help it get in the eyes of potential distributors here in the United States.

"The end is coming, you know what I mean? Time to get paid!" A trailer has debuted online for a film called Tiger Raid, about two mercenaries hired to kidnap the daughter of a powerful man in the Middle East. That sounds like it might be a bit odd, but this actually looks interesting. Brian Gleeson (son of Brendan and brother of Domhnall) and Damien Molony star as the two mercs, who "ride a wave of pitch-black camaraderie as they travel through the desert night on their way to carry out" their job. Sofia Boutella (also starring in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond) plays the woman who is being kidnapped. It's rare to see a film that provides some empathy for mercenaries, but this looks like it is quite unique. Worth checking out. Tiger Raid is a grimy hour-and-twenty minutes of cut-throat, iron-sighted tension, until a vacuous ending drops all its subplots at once – like a juggler who raises his hands mid-act and declares “Done!” We’re drenched in the sinful hellishness of war, and dragged through a game of wits between two mercenaries who are constantly testing each other’s boundaries. Simon Dixon’s feature debut grabs our attention with morally ambiguous proclamations, but squanders unpaid debts on a finale that hurriedly explains a string of MacGuffins with the grace of The Incredible Hulk. Frantic psychological thrills sizzle under the Middle East’s vicious heat lamp, but Dixon simply runs out of gas a few miles too soon.

Having made "quite a few cop shows" in his time, Paul Marquess (The Bill, Crime Stories, Hollyoaks) knew he had to do something different with Channel 5's Suspects.
Produced without a traditional script, the drama is semi-improvised, with its stars - Fay Ripley, Damien Molony and Clare-Hope Ashitey - working instead from a detailed story document.
Ahead of the launch of its third series, Marquess spoke to Digital Spy about the challenges of producing a show like Suspects and why he and his production team at Newman Street are looking to make more shows in the same format.
What can viewers expect from the third series of Suspects?
"We've got four really strong episodes. The first one that's up features a great guest performance from Emmett Scanlan - really strong - and then the second one... it may well be my favourite episode.
"It's really dark and to me it's like the uber-Suspects episode.

Dominic Power (Emmerdale), Claire Cooper (Hollyoaks) and Luke Newberry (In The Flesh) also feature in the Suspects double bill.

The Great British Bake Off: BBC One, 8pm
It's week three for Bake Off's first BBC One outing and, having tackled cakes and biscuits, tonight we're moving into Paul Hollywood's speciality area - bread.
Expect plenty of 'rye' observations from Mel and Sue as we find out which of the ten remaining bakers will rise to the challenge.

Channel 5's first original drama series for eight years, police procedural Suspects was seen by many as a huge risk when it launched earlier this year - unscripted, unglamorous, untested waters.
"I remember our production meeting for the first series," says Paul Marquess - Suspects co-creator and managing director of producers Newman Street. "I could just see the fear - people thinking I'd lost the plot."
But the semi-improvised series - which has its cast work not from a traditional script, but a detailed story document - was far from a failure. Instead, it proved to be one of the most diverting and original UK cop shows in recent memory, drawing an enormously positive reaction from critics.
"Everyone worked so hard on the show last year to make it great, but I was genuinely surprised at how well it was received," says Damien Molony, who plays passionate Detective Sergeant Jack Weston.
