Last night I was finally able to get my Elf-mage to gayly ravish the Npc Elf-assassin* who'd been sent to kill him, fulfilling one of Dragon Age: Origins oft touted features, gay romance. parts.* It was quite fun, cheeky and interesting to finally be able to do this in a game, beating the previous love affairs between game characters that only existed in my imagination (I'm talkin' about you, Master Chief and Arbiter.)
Interestingly, this opened up a question about how "open" to same-sex romances should games like this be. Recall that I lambast BioWare last year for only including f/f options for romance in their Sf RPG Mass Effect, one of the reasons for it being that the male writers of that game were uncomfortable writing m/m dialogue. They promised that Dragon Age would rectify that problem, interestingly because there were many women writers on the Dragon Age game.
