If we're comparing failed Final Destination rehashes, Tarot is up there with the worst. Writers and directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg aim for PG-13 sleepover-branded chills in Tarot, but sell the entire experience abysmally short. Their story about a cursed tarot deck is ludicrously underwritten and dopey, discarding established in-universe rationale mere minutes after cement dries. It's a movie that sequences events like they're mistakenly out of order, with Cohen and Halberg treating the audience like they’ve never seen a horror movie before — or maybe they’re praying we haven’t
In the film, stereotypical college students rent the equivalent of Scrooge McDuck's mansion on Airbnb for one of their birthdays. When the last beer can pops open, partiers panic and search the premises for hidden alcohol, which leads them into a musty once-locked basement filled with astrological artifacts — one being a hand-drawn deck of tarot cards in an engraved container.

The newly debuted trailer for upcoming Screen Gems horror movie Tarot teased a deck of terror that awaits a group of teens that don’t abide by the Tarot rules. More importantly, it teased a variety of new supernatural entities designed by concept artist Trevor Henderson!
In Tarot, “When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.”
The film, which had previously been listed under the title Horrorscope, comes exclusively to movie theaters on May 10, 2024.
Tarot is written and directed by Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg. Larsen Thompson, Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika and Jacob Batalon star.

This one looks like a fairly generic teen horror movie, but the concept could at least allow for a fun array of supernatural entities – several of which are glimpsed in this first trailer.
Update: Artist Trevor Henderson has revealed that he designed the monsters for this movie! Henderson tweets, “I was asked to be the sole designer of the eight different monsters in this movie!!” He also notes, “All of my favourites of the designs are only hinted at.”

Molly Moon has attracted nearly two million followers on TikTok by taking inspiration from horror video games. She is now getting a chance to put her spin on that genre thanks to Excuse Me, Sir, a new game co-led by Moon and four indie developers.
Moon’s TikToks resemble the point-and-click adventure games that thrived during the 90s. (The 1993 title Myst was once the best-selling PC game of all time.) By combining garbled vocals, creepy images, and the foreboding aesthetic employed by internet fads like The Backrooms and Slender Man, Moon has become one of TikTok’s favorite horror impresarios. Now she’s inviting her fans to play their way through her haunting world.
For Moon, the transition from TikToker to game designer hinged on a pivotal tweet. Last year, developer Airdorf reached out to Moon and told her that a group of devs wanted to work with her to...

Airdorf, the developer behind Faith: The Unholy Trinity, is turning to point-and-click Fmv-style adventure gameplay for their next title with Excuse Me Sir. And to add to the horror, Airdorf is enlisting the help of Dread X Collection contributor TorpleDook, YouTuber Jesse Cox, Siren Head creator Trevor Henderson, and TikTok star Molly Moon.
Currently available on itch.io as a demo with three possible endings, Excuse Me Sir started out as a “shot-in-the-dark tweet” by Airdorf. That turned into the present proof-of-concept centring on Moon as she aims to solve the mystery of her missing brother. That’s of course contingent on you making your way through and surviving Moon’s world, which is presented in “crispy chrunchety fmv-style graphics and audio”.

If you’re reading this, it’s already too late! The game has begun, and now you’re a player…
Don’t Play This Game is a legacy solo tabletop roleplaying game. A mysterious entity curses the player; they must play the game, or else bad things will happen to them. As the game progresses, the entity will select events, like a series of nightmares or an ally going missing. The player will document the events, including what happened, how it makes them feel, and what effects it has on them. But this game goes beyond just journaling. Occasionally, players will be asked to complete specific tasks or create artifacts, including visiting their local library, taking photos of a nearby abandoned building, or even constructing a crude charm!
Once the event is complete, the entity will select another and another as the story unfolds until the player finally breaks free or loses.

One of the more effective found footage movies in recent years, Horror in the High Desert is now streaming on Tubi, and we’ve learned this week that a sequel is on the way.
Director Dutch Marich is back with Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva this year, the official sequel to the 2021 found footage film, and the trailer has been unleashed.
Update – 3/8/23 – Horror in the High Desert 2 is now available on VOD!
Horror in the High Desert 2: Minerva will play at the upcoming Unnamed Footage Festival, where you’ll also be able to see Robbie Banfitch’s (The Outwaters) new movie Tinsman Road.
“In 2018 a string of tragedies unfolded in the high desert of North Eastern Nevada. A woman was found dead and another would vanish along the same stretch of remote highway. Could these events be linked to the 2017 disappearance of outdoorsman Gary Hinge?”

At first it seems like the perfect place to quietly enjoy a secluded smoke, but three teens soon discover that their supposed safe haven is actually something downright sinister in Shelter for the Damned, the debut novel from Mike Thorn (author of the short story collection Darkest Hours). With Shelter for the Damned out now from JournalStone, we caught up with Thorn in our latest Q&a feature to discuss the journey of writing his new book, the influences that inspired him along the way, and his upcoming releases that readers can look forward to from JournalStone.

If you’re on Twitter and love horror, there’s a high chance you’re familiar with the works of Trevor Henderson, a digital artist who’s been making waves with his inspired, grotesque bits of faux found footage art that contrasts photos of seemingly natural locations with horrifying beasts and otherworldly scenarios. It’s fresh, it’s weird, and it’s constantly fascinating—the sort of art that makes me want, no, need to pick the brain of the artist. So, I got in touch with Trevor to ask him about the appeal of found footage, creating strange monsters, and what’s next for him and his work.
I've seen a lot of horror art in my time, but your work is the first I've seen that consistently takes the form of faux found footage. What is it that draws you to found footage?
Trevor Henderson: I've always loved...
