After the “Good Trouble” Season 4 finale left viewers reeling after dramatic cliffhanger, the new teaser for Season 5 sees the Coterie recovering from the tragic incident with the unanswered question: who got shot?
“Someone that you care about got shot,” a voice echoes as several familiar faces, most notably Maia Mitchell (Callie), return to the Coterie in the wake of the shooting. As the yet to be revealed victim undergoes care at the hospital, the series also brings back “The Fosters” staples Stef Foster (Teri Polo) and Lena Adams (Sherri Michelle Saum).
“I don’t know what to say,” Gael says in the teaser as the friends solemnly gather around their kitchen table while Davia asks, “Do you think they’re gonna make it?”

They finally broke Stef Foster.
The lightheartedness of that statement aside, I can't put into words how important this revelation was, however subtle. After five seasons of everything imaginable thrown their way, on The Fosters Season 5 Episode 11 we saw a crack in the steady rock of the family's exterior.
Stef's anxiety attack was such a small fraction of the hour, something barely noticeable if you weren't paying attention, yet it was the best part, especially in the final scene that she shared with Lena and Jesus. But more on that later.
It was a very balanced hour of The Fosters, and if you're a long time fan of the show, you know that it occasionally struggles with giving each of its characters adequate screen time. That wasn't the case here at all. Everyone had something going on, and all of their screentime went somewhere.

The fat lady is singing for The Fosters, but she's got another number left on her setlist. Although they're not calling it "cancelled," Freeform has announced there will be no sixth season of The Fosters TV series. The Freeform TV show will end with a "three-part limited series event" which will air this summer, but that's not all. The cable network has also ordered a still untitled 13-episode spinoff series, starring Maia Mitchell (pictured above) and Cierra Ramirez (below). In the most rewarding moment of the episode, Jesus finally woke up.
But the real miracle was that I managed to get through The Fosters Season 4 Episode 12 without throwing something at the television in frustration. I came embarrassingly close to doing it a few times. I can admit that.
It was that kind of episode, for sure. So why don't we take a few deep breaths, count to ten, and discuss it. Shall we?
Is there anything more despicable than people in power abusing their authority? I'm hard pressed to find much that tops it. Although, lack of common sense is quite grating as well.
This is not Callie's first rodeo, and yet, she came across as incompetent as ever at the police station. It was enough to make anyone want to reach through the screen and shake her until she reclaimed a modicum of sense.
She's gone without that for so long,...

Burbank, Calif. — "The Fosters" is a study in unlikely bedfellows.
The new ABC Family drama pairs mainstream star Jennifer Lopez and Peter Paige, who played bubbly Emmett in the cult favorite series "Queer as Folk," as executive producers. It brings to television a rare depiction of a lesbian couple as heads of a household.
And "The Fosters," airing its second episode 9 p.m. Edt Monday, combines a focus on the generally ignored lives of foster children with the challenges of an ethnically diverse home – a big reach for an hourlong series aimed at teenagers and young adults.
"I think in every time we have to kind of push that envelope and really be a reflection of what's going on in society and ... this show does that and in a smart, edgy, funny, heartfelt way," said Lopez, who's producing it with co-creators Paige and Bradley Bredeweg.

When "The Fosters" premieres on ABC Family this summer, another familiar face will be in the mix.
Zap2It has exclusively learned that Lorraine Toussaint ("Friday Night Lights," "Saving Grace") has been cast in the recurring role of Carol, mother of Lena Adams (Sherri Saum, "In Treatment"). Carol is described as a charismatic African-American woman who is a professor of Black Women's Studies at Berkeley and enjoys the spotlight. This being an ABC Family series, of course there is some friction between her and her daughter.
"The Fosters" tells the story of a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two lesbian mothers, the aforementioned Lena and Stef Foster (Teri Polo, "Meet the Parents"). The cast also includes Jake T. Austin, Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez.

ABC Family gave us our first look at the character bios for its new two-mom family drama, The Fosters, and it’s got us even more impatient for June 3.
Here are five things we learned from the character biographies.
1. Everyone is good looking.
It’s no surprise that the actors on the show are good-looking. Hollywood is not known for it’s use of the snaggle-toothed and the average looking. But as I scanned through the bios I was pleased to see that all the characters are noted for their good looks. This is not a show that holds its female characters out for their looks while speaking only about their male characters personalities. Nope, everyone here is good-looking, attractive, beautiful, or handsome and I find it to be a refreshing detail.
2. There’s an ex-husband situation.
