Santiago De Compostela, Spain — “Día Cero,” “Malaka” and “Streisand Effect” won Tuesday night development prizes at Conecta Fiction, the co-production and networking forum, whose second edition runs June 18-21 in Galicia’s Santiago de Compostela, at the end of the St. James Way.
The awards were adjudicated by Telefonica’s paybox Movistar + and public broadcaster Rtve, two of the main Conecta Fiction partners, who valued the projects’ in part according to their potential fit with their respective TV fiction programming strategies.
A total 10 international co-production projects competed for the Movistar+ and Rtve awards, plus a further six that developed at the series lab of Spain’s General Society of Spanish Authors’ Foundation (Sgae). All projects were pitched Tuesday June 19 at Conecta Fiction.
The Movistar + award went to “Día Cero,” a high concept comedy project set up at Alejandro Miranda’s Spanish distribution-production house Versus Entertainment, marking the company’s entry into TV fiction production.

Co-penned by David Sainz, star-scribe of popular web series “Malviviendo,” and actor-writer Enrique Lojo (“Serramoura”), “Día Cero” on an end of the world hat doesn’t happen how that impacts a group of people. Mexican actor Jose Maria Yazpik has booked roles in two new independent films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yazpik will star in Jorge Fons' "El Atentado" and Rodrigo Cortes' "Buried," opposite Ryan Reynolds. "Atentado" tells the true story of terrorist Arnulfo Arroyo (Yazpik) who attempts to assassinate Mexican dictator Porfirio Diaz in 1897. Filming is underway for "Atentado" in Mexico City. "Buried" stars Reynolds as a civilian contractor in Iraq who awakens in a coffin under the desert with only a cell phone, a candle and a knife. Jose Maria Yazpik has been cast in a pair of indie roles.
The Mexican actor, who recently appeared in Guillermo Arriaga's "The Burning Plain," will star in Jorge Fons' "El Atentado" and Rodrigo Cortes' "Buried," opposite Ryan Reynolds.
Based on the historical novel "El Expediente del Atentado," "Atentado" tells the true story of Arnulfo Arroyo (Yazpik), a young terrorist who in 1897 attempts to assassinate Mexican dictator Porfirio Diaz. The film also stars Daniel Jimenez-Cacho and Irene Azuela and is being produced by Diego Lopez.
Filming has begun in Mexico City.
