For the number of grunts there are in this movie, you would think it’s competing with Kill Bill. I am Rage, directed by David Ryan Keith, gave me multiple episodes of Deja Vu because the fight sequences and their beats are so similar that I thought I had seen them before, in the same film, that is. Is it a ‘revenge thriller,’ or is it a ‘slasher movie,’ or is it a metaphor for feminine rage? I guess writer Stephen Durham didn’t care too much. Otherwise, why would he build up a story such as this, which feels so ‘co-incidental’, yet at one point the film managed to grip me, until the repetitive action scenes took me out of it. It seems the idea was to take the best parts of all the relevant subgenres and put them in a melting pot to see what came out. The performances are decent,...

Co-writer/director David Ryan Keith begins his film with the sight of a woman (Marta Svetek) readying herself to work, applying lipstick before she puts on her uniform of a mask and a black cloak. She then enters a room highlighting her depraved task, which involves a man tied to a chair and the table of utensils before him. While the man manages to free himself, any hopes of escape are fleeting as he is soon beaten down and executed, with a bucket underneath his slit throat collecting as much blood as possible to prevent “a waste of a good product”.
Meanwhile, Erin (Hannaj Bang Bendz) is preparing for a tranquil getaway with her boyfriend, Adam (Derek Nelson). Joining them are Adam’s brother, Michael (Luke Aquilina), along with his girlfriend,...

So my father didn’t really teach me much in the way of life lessons but he did impart one piece of wisdom to live by… “Kevin,” he said, “you can never trust a man with three first names”.
It was with that in mind that I sat down to watch director David Ryan Keith’s latest project I Am Rage. Billed as a woman on a mission of revenge thriller from the team behind 2020 flick Army of One. Another female-driven thriller that I really dug and going by the trailer we were in for more of the same only dialled up to 11.

Despite the nondescript title, The Facility is actually a sequel to 2017’s British zombie horror The Rizen, and originally debuted in 2019 on the festival circuit as The Rizen: Possession… a title which clearly marks out where the film is headed and what we should expect. So why the title change? Maybe because the sequel has been released by a different distributor who, selfishly, didn’t want to give the first films release any publicity as they didn’t release it or – and I want to say this is the more logical reason – The Rizen wasn’t actually that well received on its release and the distributor wanted to distance this film from the original. Writer/director and seemingly one-man filmmaking factory David Ryan Keith was previously responsible for two films I absolutely adore – 2017’s Ghosts of Darkness (Still yet to receive a UK physical release) and last years The Dark Within. But prior to those he made his second feature, The Redwood Massacre, an old-school slasher movie shot in Aberdeen (of all places) that didn’t exactly set the world on fire on release – it has its fans yes, but its not one of those must-see genre films… Which is why it was surprising to see, some 6 years after that films release, we’ve got a sequel in Redwood Massacre: Annihilation!

To say I was excited when the press release for The Dark Within dropped into my inbox is somthing of an understatement. You see, I am a Huge fan of writer/director David Ryan Keith’s 2017 film Ghosts of Darkness which, despite numerous [aborted] release dates, has yet to hit physical media here in the UK. That film was a fantastic horror comedy which really showed off both director Keith and actor Paul Flannery – both of whom team up for their follow up effort The Dark Within. A film that could not be, thematically, further from their previous film but is still yet another sublime genre film from the duo.

2017 has been, at least for me, a fantastic year for movies. There has been some great films in the cinema, on DVD and VOD and the film festivals we’ve covered have been jam-packed with quality movies. Which makes it Very hard to narrow down a list of the Top 10 of the year! Even moreso when it comes to Dtv releases…
So, with that being said, I’ve decided that this year I’d split my picks into two distinct lists – the ten best films I saw in cinemas, be it at the local multiplex or at film festivals; and the ten best direct-to-market titles of the year, be they DVD or VOD.
This list takes in All the direct to DVD, VOD premieres, etc., that never made it to cinemas, so many in fact (32 in the shortlist!) that there’s enough honorable mentions to do multiple top tens and...

The Redwood Massacre is a slasher film from Scotland. This indie title is also from production company Clear Focus Movies Ltd and director David Ryan Keith (Attack of the Herbals). Recently, a trailer was released for the film and the killer looks particularly fearsome, in the clip. The Redwood Massacre stars Lisa Cameron (My Brother's Keeper), Mark Wood, Lisa Livingstone and Rebecca Wilkie. The film's story is slightly conventional, though. Several friends set out for the local highlands, only to find a mysterious figure hiding in the bushes. Their campground is the site of a brutal series of murders and these murders will be recreated by a roaming madman. Camping has never been this bloody! The trailer for The Redwood Massacre develops the story and the legend a little more. Then, the killer is introduced, before the blood flies. Fans of indie slashers are invited to take a closer look at the film below.

There is nothing that the working man hates more than when the big corporate entity blows into their small towns, their simple lives, and tries to take over. Best way to stop this? Unleash a zombie epidemic on the general public. That tends to distract them.
Presented by Showbox Entertainment, Attack of the Herbals deals with just that situation. However, the downtrodden are given a way to respond by way of a strange box of herbal tea that has washed up on the shore. Unfortunately, only bad things come from it. Really bad things. The film stars Steve Worsley, Liam Matheson, Richard Currie, Lee Hutcheon, Claire McCulloch and Calum Booth. The film was directed by David Ryan Keith.
The movie hits UK DVD on June 25th with a U.S release to come. Look for details soon!
