The glass slippers still fit Brandy. The singer’s long-awaited return as Cinderella in a new Disney television movie has been given an official first look, courtesy of footage from the set of “Descendants: Rise of Red.” Brandy is reprising the role of Cinderella 26 years after becoming the princess opposite Whitney Houston’s Fairy Godmother in the 1997 television movie “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”
The set footage also confirmed that “Descendants: Rise of Red” will feature the return of Paolo Montalban, who played Brandy’s Prince Charming in the 1997 movie, which was groundbreaking for its multicultural casting. Charming is now king, and Cinderella is queen.

One of Disney’s most beloved princesses is coming back onscreen. Brandy will reprise her role as Cinderella for a new Disney+ film in the “Descendants” franchise.
Brandy previously famously portrayed the fairytale princess in a TV film adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” musical, which was watched by 60 million viewers when it first aired on ABC in 1997. The film’s inclusive and diverse casting — which included Brandy as the first Black woman to play Cinderella, Whitney Houston and Whoopi Goldberg as the Fairy Godmother and the Queen, and Paolo Montalbán as a Filipino Prince Charming — was widely regarded as groundbreaking, and the film has since become considered a classic. This August, Brandy reunited with the cast of the film for an ABC special to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The new “Descendants” film, currently under the working title “The Pocketwatch,” will be the first time in the role since the 1997 film.

The animated project was originally announced in 2019 with Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm. Just last week, Deadline exclusively learned that the Russo brothers and their team, including head writers Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina,...

The animated “Magic: The Gathering” series at Netflix has cast Brandon Routh in the lead role.
The announcement was made during Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Showcase 2021 stream. Plot details on the series are still being kept under wraps, but it was confirmed that Routh will voice the character Gideon Jura. It was previously announced that the show expands on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are the game’s magic-wielding heroes and villains.
In addition, it was announced that a prequel novel by Django Wexler will be released in conjunction with the series, which is slated to debut in 2022.
The novel, which hails from Del Rey Books, sees Planeswalkers Gideon Jura and Jace Beleren adventuring together as they right wrongs across the multiverse. But with very different insights into what they witness, it is safe to say that the partnership is under quite a bit of strain.

Netflix has finally revealed the first voice cast member for its upcoming animated “Magic: The Gathering” TV series, setting “Superman Returns” star Brandon Routh as the voice of Gideon Jura, an “unfalteringly heroic Planeswalker” on the show, which is set to debut in late 2022.
Though Routh is the only voice star to be revealed so far, Wizards of the Coast says “the animated series is currently in full production: all scripts for the first season are written, recorded, and becoming real.”
The announcement came Tuesday, a few days after the reveal that original executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo had exited the series and handed creative control over to new executive producer Jeff Kline (“Transformers: Prime”) and co-executive producer and story editor Steve Melching (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), during “Magic: The Gathering” publisher Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Showcase 2021 live stream. Following the departure of Joe and Anthony Russo from the “Magic: The Gathering” project, Netflix has tapped Jeff Kline (“Transformers: Prime”) to executive produce and lead a new creative team for the CG-animated adaptation of the collectible fantasy trading card game.
The show was first announced in June 2019. The Russos — known for their work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe entries “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity Wars,” and “Avengers: Endgame”– were slated to executive produce the series and oversee the development of an all-new storyline that expands on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are the game’s magic-wielding heroes and villains. Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina were to serve as writers and co-executive producers. Reportedly, the Russos and their creative team left the series over creative differences in handling the intellectual property. The Russo brothers were involved in passing the baton to Kline, and...

Exclusive: Magic: the Gathering, Netflix’s CG-animated series adaptation of the popular tabletop trading-card game, has put in place a new creative team led by executive producer Jeff Kline (Transformers: Prime).
The animated project was originally announced in 2019 with Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm. I hear the Russos and their team, including head writers Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina, departed early in the process over different visions for how best to adapt the IP. The parting of the ways was amicable, and Netflix subsequently tapped Kline to oversee the creation of an all new storyline and expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains.
Kline’s team includes Co-Executive Producer and Story Editor Steve Melching (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Supervising Director Audu Paden, Art Ddirector Izzy Medrano and Writers Nicole Dubuc, Russell Sommer & Dan Frey, and Taneka Stotts. The Russo brothers...

Fox has come up with a crazy idea for a TV series based on King Arthur with a twist. The twist is, it's a cop show. The series is called Camelot, and according to THR, it "reimagines the legendary stories of King Arthur in a police procedural." The report goes on to offer up the following plot summary:
When an ancient magic reawakens in modern-day Manhattan, a graffiti artist named Art must team with his best friend Lance and his ex, Gwen — an idealistic cop — in order to realize his destiny and fight back against the evil forces that threaten the city.
Camelot was created by Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, and they will write and produce the project with Gail Berman and Joe Earley. This series seems like it will follow the same kind of formula that we've seen with Sleepy Hallow and Lucifer, only this one will focus on the legendary King Arthur,...

In a preemptive deal, Paramount has bought the feature pitch “Eternal” from writers Dan Frey and Russell Sommer, who previously teamed on the Black List script “Bleeding Kansas,” an individual with knowledge of the deal has told TheWrap. Mary Parent‘s Disruption Entertainment will produce “Eternal,” which is described as a grounded superhero story in the vein of “‘Chronicle’ meets ‘Highlander.'” Paramount had no comment on the deal. Every year, film executive Franklin Leonard releases his list, called The Black List, of most-liked unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. This year's list was compiled from the suggestions of 290 film executives, each of whom picked up to ten of their favorite scripts. Since the list started in 2004, many screenplays ended up being turned into films. In 2005, two of the top three scripts were "Lars and the Real Girl" which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and "Juno" which actually won the Oscar. See the 2012 Black List below, broken up by how many votes each screenplay received. Some of the projects are already in the works. 65 - Draft Day (Rajiv Joseph, Scott Rothman) On the day of the NFL Draft, Bills General Manager Sonny Weaver has the opportunity to save football in Buffalo when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he's willing to sacrifice in...

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) Among the more alluring logline subjects we find on the list, I’d be keen on reading the...
