During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon, the crowd saw footage highlighting the film’s practical effects. JoBlo’s editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, says Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has more of the original’s style than the teaser trailer made it look. Keaton looks like the Ghost With the Most and hasn’t lost a step. WB showed more of what Keaton’s performance is like, and it’s fantastic!

Say his name three times. Do it. Unlike Candyman, most people would love to summon Beetlejuice. He’s the Ghost With The Most. The film Beetlejuice became an instant classic when it haunted theater screens in the spring of 1988. Burton’s visual aesthetic, along with the amazing performances by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, captivated audiences. The film easily grossed over $75 Million at the box office on a $15 Million budget. People loved the character, and he even got a Saturday morning cartoon spin-off that kids loved, but it’s taken thirty-five years for them to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground!

Michael Keaton is back as the titular Ghost with the Most in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here). Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz. Catherine O’Hara is back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. But now The Hollywood Reporter has been able to confirm that Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles in the original movie, is not in the sequel. Few fans expected him to be, as Jones hasn’t gotten a lot of screen acting jobs since 2003, when he pled no contest to “hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose naked for photos, for which he was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.” He has been in a few movies since then, but his most substantial job was on the TV series Deadwood. He appeared on 35 episodes of that show...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. Burton directed the sequel, for which Michael Keaton is back in the title role, Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara returns as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. We’ve known for a while that Jenna Ortega will be playing Lydia’s daughter in the film – and during a new interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega talked a little bit about working on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, revealing along the way that her character’s name is Astrid.
Commenting on the original film, Ortega said, “I had always loved the movie. I think the first time I saw it was actually at a friend’s house, and then the rest of the time, I’d see it whenever it was playing on TV around Halloween.

Lionsgate has acquired domestic rights to the Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James and Himesh Patel comedy “Greedy People.”
The film explores what happens when the eccentric residents of a small, picturesque island town are faced with a sensational murder and the discovery of $1 million next to the body. This sparks a series of increasingly bad decisions that do a number on the peace and tranquility of the community.
“’Greedy People’ is a hugely entertaining crime thriller in every way,” said Allison Lynch, Lionsgate’s director of acquisitions and co-productions. “Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel lead an incredible cast through twists and turns that range from the hilarious to the horrific – and the movie always keeps you guessing.”
The film’s starry ensemble also features Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”), Jim Gaffigan (“Chappaquiddick”) and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”).

If you’ve seen the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), you know that the key to summoning (or sending away) the title character is saying his name three times. So when Beetlejuice 2 finally went into production, with Burton back at the helm, thirty-five years after the release of the original film, I saw fans suggesting the title of the film should be Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Obviously the filmmakers agreed that was a clever idea, because it has been confirmed that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the film’s title. This is revealed in a poster that can be seen at the bottom of this article… and while Deadline is claiming the 2024 A.D. bit is part of the title as well, we’re skeptical about that one.

Thirty-six years after the release of the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), we’re finally going to be seeing a sequel when Beetlejuice 2 reaches theatres on September 6th… and as we watch the new film play out on the big screen, we’re apparently not going to be seeing much CGI in it. Star Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that working on Beetlejuice 2 was “some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set. Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or something like that at all. Everyone did an incredible job. I felt so lucky to be there, it was insane … I can’t wait for people to see.“
Ortega’s comments actually echo something her co-star Michael Keaton – who reprises the role of the titular character – said seven months ago, when the film was still in production.

Director Tim Burton was only a day and a half from being able to wrap production on his latest movie, Beetlejuice 2 – which, of course, happens to be the long-awaited (it’s been thirty-five years!) sequel to his classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here) – when the Screen Actors Guild strike hit in July. When the strike ended earlier this month, Beetlejuice 2 was able to go back into production. Now Burton has taken to Instagram to celebrate the end of filming by sharing a picture of himself sitting on a familiar set. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Back in March, film journalist Jeff Sneider said he had heard that “an aging action star” was up for the role of a ghost in director Tim Burton‘s Beetlejuice 2 – which, of course, happens to be the long-awaited (it’s been thirty-five years!) sequel to his classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here). Sneider heard Jean-Claude Van Damme was in the running to play the character… but over the eight months since, we haven’t heard anything that indicates Van Damme actually made it to the set of Beetlejuice 2. We do know that Willem Dafoe plays an afterlife detective in the film – and during a new interview with Variety, he revealed that his character also happens to be a former action star!
Dafoe said, “I haven’t seen any footage (from Beetlejuice 2) yet, but it was fun to do. I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person.

Director Tim Burton was less than two days from being able to wrap production on his latest movie, Beetlejuice 2 – which, of course, happens to be the long-awaited (it’s been thirty-five years!) sequels to his classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), when the Screen Actors Guild strike hit in July. Production had to be paused for months. But the SAG strike came to an end earlier this month, and now Wbz News reports that Burton and his cast and crew were able to return to the town of Melrose, Massachusetts and cover the place in Halloween decorations for a couple days of filming. Beetlejuice 2 has since wrapped, finally.

To fully grasp the dire state of theatrical distribution of independent films, consider the words of John Sloss, founder and CEO of Cinetic Media, who recently told Variety:
“It’s imperative for all of us to get behind reigniting the theatrical experience because I don’t think the streamers are ever going to be behind the new voices and independent films. The only way to really get them out in the world is to put them in a theater where they can be reviewed and where they can sit long enough for word of mouth to really support them. That’s really the dangerous moment we are in, in terms of getting people back in the theaters.”
Suppose there’s a way out of the “dangerous moment” for independent cinema that Sloss describes. In that case, it will probably come about because of talented indie filmmakers like director Potsy Ponciroli and his experienced,...

Thirty-five years after the release of the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), Burton has been working on the long-awaited sequel we’re calling Beetlejuice 2, and as part of the production he once again turned the town of East Corinth, Vermont into Winter River, Connecticut. The house the first movie took place in has been rebuilt, and pictures taken by fans revealed that an iconic sculpture featured in that movie was sitting outside the house. Unfortunately, that sculpture has since been stolen!
The Vermont State Police are looking for the sculpture and a pumpkin-topped lamp post that was also stolen from the set:
We tried saying the name of this stolen statue three times, but it didn't come back! We're investigating the theft of this 150-pound sculpture from the "Beetlejuice 2" set in E. Corinth, along with a lamppost topped with a pumpkin decoration. Call 802-748-3111 with any info.

After many, many (many) years and failed attempts, "Beetlejuice 2" is finally, actually happening at Warner Bros. Dating way back to the early '90s when Warner Bros. was considering making a sequel titled "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian," this project has been kicking around off and on for more than two decades. But now, in the age of reboots, requels, legacy sequels, and peak nostalgia, it seems everything has fallen into place.
The studio initially confirmed during CinemaCon 2023 that the film was finally getting made by revealing a logo for the sequel during its presentation. At the time, they didn't have much to say about it, but it announced to the world that the time has come for Tim Burton's '80s classic to make a comeback. Now, with a release date set, cast locked in, and director on board, it's showtime. So, here's everything we know about the sequel so far.

Eleven days ago, we heard that Wednesday and Scream VI star Jenna Ortega is circling a role in director Tim Burton’s long-awaited Beetlejuice 2, which is apparently finally on the edge of going into production, thirty-five years after the first film was released. Ortega would be joining returning Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton (as the title character), Winona Ryder (as Lydia Deetz), and Catherine O’Hara (as Lydia’s stepmother Delia), and she would be playing Lydia’s daughter. Film journalist Jeff Sneider heard the Ortega rumor a couple weeks before it went public – and during an episode of the podcast The Hot Mic, which he hosts with critic John Rocha, Sneider revealed that he has also heard “an aging action star” is in the running to play a ghost in the film. A sequel to 1988 cult favorite Beetlejuice 2 has been in discussion for nearly a decade now. Back in 2011, director Tim Burton announced he was working on a belated follow-up to the horror-comedy, with Michael Keaton due to return as the titular bio-exorcist. Over the years, we got the occasional update and hopeful comment, but in April of 2019, it was stated that the project had been shelved. Recently, though, the idea might’ve been taken off the shelf again.
We told you a few months back that the studio had decided to give it another go and get the long-awaited sequel off the ground and we’re now hearing that it’s finally entered active development. And better yet, we can confirm that Warner Bros. wants both Burton and Keaton back. It’s unknown if they’ve actually signed on the dotted line, but the studio is, at the very least,...

While legendary director Tim Burton has left his mark on a number of well-established franchises, his much-beloved, dark comedy Beetlejuice is still considered one of his best movies to date.
Sure, Burton has been criticized for a handful of blunders over the past couple of decades, but it’s hard to fault his 1988 classic. Beetlejuice was a mish-mash of sharp, clever writing and bizarre horror, and it propelled Michael Keaton to stardom. Of course, Keaton and Burton went on to collaborate on multiple projects — not only did the pair reunite for Batman and Batman Returns, but Keaton recently starred in Burton’s reimagining of the classic Disney animated film, Dumbo.
While rumors have been circulating (for some time now) regarding a follow-up – tentatively titled Beetlejuice 2 – it seems all hopes of seeing Michael Keaton sporting green hair again have been dashed. As reported by ComicBook.com, Burton was asked about...

Zack Braff has found his next feature film directing gig. According to Collider, he will helm a film called The Secret Ingredients of Rocket Cola.
The movie was written by Mike Vukadinovich (Marvel’s Runaways), and it appeared on the 2014 Black List of best unproduced screenplays.
The story for the film “takes places over decades, follows twin brothers with opposite personalities who are separated at a young age and go on to live drastically different lives. Eventually, they reunite in an effort to save the company Rocket Cola despite their love of the same woman.”
That definitely sounds like the kind of story that would fit Braff’s directing style and personality. I’ve actually enjoyed the films he has made. They are fun, quirky, and have some kind of inspirational quality to them.
Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) is currently attached to star in the film.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Say this around 27 more times and well…maybe the universe will grant you a ticket to the upcoming re-release of the 1980s Tim Burton classic about a charming supernatural character who was originally envisioned to be played by legendary entertainer Sammy Davis Jr.
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, the classic dark comedy will be screened in select locations around the world this weekend in honor of its 30th anniversary. The piece will be remastered and hopefully, it won’t feature that alternate ending where Winona Ryder’s Lydia died in a fire in order to hang out with her friends in the spirit world.
Though the original film’s grown to be loved by many, the yet-to-be-made sequel is still struggling to find traction. Originally, talk centered around a piece titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, but that never materialized. Since then, different writers including Seth Grahame-Smith...

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton’s strange unusual horror/comedy Beetlejuice, which has got fans hoping for that long-touted sequel once again. Though it’s been discussed on and off for the past few years, sadly, the Ghost with the Most doesn’t seem to be climbing out of his grave with any urgency. In the absence of any official news on Beetlejuice 2, then, these amazing fan posters have imagined what a follow-up to the 1988 cult classic would be like.
The two character posters from artist Alex Murillo feature Michael Keaton’s titular perverted poltergeist and Winona Ryder’s goth icon Lydia Deetz. The Beetlejuice piece sees the spirit playfully covering his mouth with some fabric of the same pattern as his distinctive black and white striped coat.
The Lydia one is perhaps more inventive, though, as it imagines the formally teenage character as a middle-aged woman.

In the absence of any official updates on that front, though, one YouTube user has now taken it upon themselves to create a teaser trailer for the belated follow-up, and we must say, it’s rather well done.
Echoing the events of the original 1988 movie, the teaser imagines the sequel following a young couple as they adjust to the afterlife once they’re killed in a car accident. Original ghosts the Maitlands also put in appearances as the couple’s new mentors, through some cleverly chosen footage of Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as they appear now. Also, look out for clips of Catherine O’Hara, who played Delia Deetz, and Winona Ryder, whose role as Lydia Deetz offered the actress her first big break.

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice was released on March 30th, 1988, which means that it’s now been 30 years since the ghost with the most first exploded onto cinema screens. It’s an auspicious birthday, too, coinciding with Beetlejuice’s (sort of) return to theaters (as a Vr avatar in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One).
If for some reason you haven’t seen the film, it’s a ghost story with the twist being that the heroes are a pair of ghosts trying to get rid of the obnoxious new tenants in their house. Their haunting skills aren’t great, though, so they call in an expert: haunter extraordinaire Beetlejuice!
Now that I’ve said his name three times, I guess it’d be as good time as any to introduce these seriously cool fan posters that’ve been cooked up to celebrate the movie’s birthday:

Today – March 30th, 2018 – marks the 30th anniversary of Beetlejuice, the quirky horror comedy that launched director Tim Burton into the big leagues and provided star Michael Keaton with one of his most iconic roles (probably just second to his portrayal of Batman). Even after several decades, the film is still a cult favourite with a legion of fans and is now getting its own stage musical. It could have been a very different, much darker, movie, though, if things had gone according to the original plan.
Yahoo! chatted with the film’s writer, Larry Wilson, recently to discuss some little-known facts about Beetlejuice. Among other things, he revealed that the initial idea for the ending saw Winona Ryder’s goth girl Lydia Deetz die in a fire.

There's still a Beetlejuice sequel in the offing - and it even has a new writer...
They just won't let Beetlejuice die. Warner Bros. has been trying to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground almost since the original hit theaters, with the project going through any number of different iterations over the last nearly 30 years. Despite the fact that sequels this belated don't make the most sense under the very best of circumstances, let alone when one features characters who are dead and therefore shouldn't be aging anymore, there are still plans to get Beetlejuice 2 made with both Michael Keaton and Tim Burton.

Over the past few years, there's been a lot of talk about a sequel to Tim Burton's classic film Beetlejuice. It looked like it was actually really close to happening in 2016. In one day Tim Burton said that film was ready to start shooting and then a few hours later said it wasn't in development. We haven't really heard anything regarding the movie since, other than Michael Keaton saying, "it's possible that ship has sailed."
Now today it's being reported that Warner Bros. is putting Beetlejuice 2 back into development and they've hired Mike Vukadinovich (Rememory) to rewrite the script that was originally written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).
Burton is currently working on Dumbo for Disney, so maybe Warner Bros. is looking to get Beetlejuice 2 into a place of development where Burton can jump on board and direct when he's done with Dumbo.

Mike Vukadinovich has been tasked with resurrecting Beetlejuice 2 from the brink of irrelevancy.
Deadline has the scoop, confirming that Vukadinovich has been drafted in to pen a new treatment for the long-in-development sequel. Beetlejuice is a classic Tim Burton movie, but attempts to make Beetlejuice 2 never worked out.
When it was announced in the late 1980s that the then thirtysomething director Tim Burton had landed the job of bringing Batman to the big screen for Warner Bros., approval was far from unanimous. Burton was a gamble, although as 1989’s Batman would prove, a well-chosen bet.
Despite being a gamble, Burton had some pedigree. Just two movies into his career, he was already proving to be one of Hollywood’s most interesting mainstream directors. And the studio had, after all, seen early cuts of 1988’s Beetlejuice, Burton’s second film.
The fantasy comedy, starring Michael Keaton in the title role, actually came to Burton while he was already working on Batman (his first film, 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, had proven a surprise hit). While the studio dithered over giving...
