International exhibitors gathered at Berlin’s majestic Kino International on the eve of the Berlin Film Festival on Wednesday to discuss challenges and innovative concepts that are pulling audiences back into theaters.
Opening the Berlinale edition of Cinema Vision 2030 conference, Christian Bräuer, chairman of Germany’s Ag Kino – Gilde e.V. cinema association, which organized the event, said the country’s cinemas were “still suffering from the effects of the pandemic and we still find ourselves in a world in crisis, we feel the consequences of the war, such as the massive increase in energy prices.”
He therefore welcomed the opportunity to hear about new ideas and business models that could bolster the sector.
“You are here today to tell us German exhibitors about your experiences and thoughts about the cinema of tomorrow,” he said, noting that the market was in a state of “rapid change.”

In his new memoir, “Making Rent in Bed-Stuy: A Memoir of Trying to Make It in New York City,” filmmaker, author, and professor Brandon Harris explores his unique coming-of-age in the city — and community — that he loves. Incidentally and not at all accidentally, the book includes a reflections on a number of essential films that shaped Harris’ journey, from Spike Lee joints to underappreciated indies and even Hal Ashby’s “The Landlord.”
In celebration of the book, Harris has also curated a series at Brooklyn’s Alamo Drafthouse under the same title, featuring four films that speak directly to his novel and his experience, including tonight’s screening of “The Landlord.”

Fierce, committed and above all, tough — these are the words that collaborators use to describe producer Robin O’Hara, a longtime fixture of the New York independent film scene, who died suddenly last week after complications from cancer treatment.
When O’Hara’s business and life partner Scott Macaulay of Forensic Films posted the sad news on Facebook last Wednesday, hundreds of prominent filmmakers, former crewmembers, and friends from across the independent film world offered an outpouring of condolences, remembrances, and testimonies about O’Hara’s importance in nurturing their art and their careers.
As “Saving Face” director Alice Wu wrote, “She was brilliant and mercurial and hilarious and terrifying. She gave no fucks — unless she did give a fuck — and then she gave everything. Anyone who has been lucky enough to be in her orbit never lets go. She pushed us all … and we became better people.”

Dangerous byproducts of car-accident deaths, plus the police commissioner's visit to a museum, meant another active day for the Reagans.
"Insult to Injury," Friday's (March 7) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods" -- written by co-executive producer Daniel Truly, from a story by him and series script coordinator Andrew Raab -- made Frank (Tom Selleck) a chaperone for grandson Sean's (Andrew Terraciano) school field trip. The trek's main guide, Joyce Carpenter (guest star Annie Wersching), quickly proved herself something of a control freak.
"This isn't my first rodeo," she briskly informed Frank. "You're just to follow my lead." Clearly, she did not know Frank Reagan.
What looked to be a day of paperwork for Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) became something else when he took a call meant for a detective who had passed away. The distressed caller, named Jill (guest star Bess Rous), angrily told Danny that the NYPD and the justice system had failed her.
