2023 was the end of an era in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy category. For the first time in 10 years, “Saturday Night Live” was snubbed in the category in which it has been nominated a record 22 times and has won twice, both for Kate MicKinnon. Can it rebound in 2024?
Ever since the TV academy allowed “SNL” cast members to enter in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has dominated supporting actress, with 2013 and 2023 being the only years it has failed to earn a nomination. McKinnons is “SNL’s” most nominated performer in the category — and overall — with nine bids, the second most in the category after Rhea Perlman and Loretta Swit, who each received 10.
After McKinnon’s final nomination for her final season in 2022, it was clear that “SNL” might struggle to continue its nomination streak. She was “SNL’s” only nominee in the category that year, down...

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

The stars came out for Kate.
Kate Berlant’s one-woman show with the one name title opened at the Pasadena Playhouse on Jan. 21, and the night featured a parade of bold-faced names in the 91101. Reilly, Nathan Fielder, Billy Eichner, Lionel Boyce, Abbi Jacobson, Rachel Sennott, Jordan Firstman, Reggie Watts, Paul Downs, Vanessa Bayer and Chelsea Peretti. Also, there was the show’s director Burnham with rumored girlfriend Phoebe Bridgers.
The stars responded to the show, which “explores the events of her life that have brought her to this moment,” with a standing ovation. Before that, however, they lined up for pics on a step-and-repeat that featured oversized images of Berlant in various poses (seen above). Drinks and light...

Whenever "Saturday Night Live" has a host who's been deemed by the masses to be particularly attractive, it's pretty much a guarantee the writers will throw in a sketch all about how hot they are. Jason Momoa recently got a whole "Cast Away" parody sketch where Momoa swoops in to easily steal another man's wife. Back in 2016, Margot Robbie had a sexy librarian sketch, as well as a "Live Report" sketch where a bunch of newscasters tried to figure out why a character who looks like Robbie is married to a man who wears Crocs with socks.
Even when the sketch isn't specifically about how hot the host is, you often get the sense that a cast member pitched and wrote a sketch with the sole purpose of getting to kiss the host at some point. From Kate McKinnon making out with Gal Gadot, to Vanessa Bayer having a secret love affair with Kristen Stewart,...

In “Everything You Want,” the second single from Matt Rogers’ new album Have You Heard of Christmas?, he croons about sending holiday tidings to a former flame — who, as it turns out, he can’t quite remember. “Gifted you my heart and swore a lifetime of my love, you’ve gone away now,” he sings. “Go get everything you want even if you can’t give that from me…all the stuff you like, which I forgot.”
The song, which is also a collaboration with Katie Gavin of Muna, was one of the last he added to the tracklist. The collection began as new recordings of songs the actor and writer has been performing as part of his musical comedy tour of the same name, but Rogers felt it was missing something a little more emo. “I needed a song that went full Pisces,” he says with a laugh. “My...

Sometimes a celebrity will host "Saturday Night Live" for the first time and absolutely nail it, and Ryan Gosling is the perfect example. His episode was a surprise highlight of the 41st season, with its big claim to fame being that viral alien sketch with Kate McKinnon. The clip has 58 million views on YouTube in part because of how well-written and performed McKinnon's crass, disgruntled character is, but it's also because Gosling gets hit hard by the giggles halfway through. Actors breaking on "SNL" can be a lot of fun when it feels genuine, and Gosling's hosting stints were filled with him trying (and failing) not to laugh in live sketches.
But in that 2015 debut episode of his, maybe Gosling's best performance was actually "Santa Baby," a pre-taped sketch in which he and Vanessa Bayer play a married couple at a polite neighborhood Christmas party. The catch is that...

This article contains spoilers for What We Do In The Shadows season 5 episode 4.
Politics are a draining business, as local community jurisdictions are filled with meaningless edicts requiring endless paperwork. This is the clot to the workings of American society, but lifeblood to those who thrive on the mind-numbing boredom of legislative agendas, especially those filed in triplicate. What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 4 “The Campaign” takes on the establishment, speaking hard truths to power in order to drain it.
“The Campaign” is filled with surprises. One is there is a cap on how many DUIs can be on someone’s record before being given the okay to run for office on Staten Island. This is ultimately the reason Sean Rinaldi (Anthony Atamanuik) is dropping out of the race for Staten Island Comptroller, in spite of all the hard work he put in to make his platform inclusive in “Pride Parade.

Joanna Gold has sold her last infinity scarf — on Showtime at least. On June 8, the network canceled the Vanessa Bayer comedy I Love That For You, one of the last scripted originals awaiting its fate on the bubble. Production company Annapurna is expected to shop it around, hoping the series will find new life elsewhere, much like Three Women, which was canceled by Showtime in January but picked up by Starz in February. But by canceling I Love That For You, the network is solidifying its new direction, one that leaves innovative comedies like Bayer’s behind.

It’s disappointing news for fans of the Showtime comedy series I Love That For You, as the cable network has canceled the show after just one season. Created by Vanessa Bayer and Jeremy Beiler, I Love That For You premiered on May 1, 2022, and was the last current scripted series whose fate remained up in the air at Showtime. According to Deadline, there was an internal effort to get the series renewed, but it, unfortunately, wasn’t meant to be. “I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime,” a Showtime spokesperson said in a statement. “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi [Klein], along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.” The show starred Bayer as Joanna Gold, an aspiring host for the shopping channel Svn, who, in order to keep her job, lies about her childhood cancer returning.

Showtime has made a decision on its last remaining current scripted series whose fate had been up in the air, opting not to pick up a second season of comedy I Love That for You. The news comes a year after the Season 1 run of the show starring Vanessa Bayer, who co-created it with Jeremy Beiler. The two serve as executive producers alongside showrunner Jessi Klein and Michael Showalter.
“I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime,” a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi, along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.”
As Deadline reported, there had been an internal effort to get the well-received series renewed. I Love That for You co-star Matt Rogers claimed in December that a second season of the show already had been written.

Another Showtime scripted original series has been shown the door.
The Paramount Global-backed premium cable network has canceled I Love That For You, the comedy inspired by star and co-creator Vanessa Bayer’s experience with childhood leukemia. The comedy, which ran for one season and had been one of the few remaining scripted series from the cabler’s previous executive regime, is expected to be shopped by producers Annapurna.
I Love That For You launched in May 2022 to warm reviews and wrapped its run a month later. The series co-starring Molly Shannon in a Saturday Night Live reunion with Bayer had been awaiting word on its future for nearly a year.

In the second sketch of the third season of I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, one character admits, “I just take everything way too far! I got too hyper.”
This line could be part of pretty much every Itysl sketch, both in this new season and in the two previous ones, since every bit on the show is in some way or other about people who take things too far, usually in a hyper way. But then again, most of these characters would not have enough self-awareness to recognize this particular flaw,...

Throughout the course of its stellar four-season run, HBO's "Barry" has featured a number of cameo appearances. Most of these took the form of fictional guest characters, from Vanessa Bayer as a vapid TV executive in season 3 to the third episode of the current season, which featured both filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro as a crime lord (not coincidentally named "Toro") and co-creator Bill Hader's old Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen as a doomed assassin.
Less common within the show (but just as welcome) are the cameo appearances from Hollywood figures playing themselves, such as Jon Hamm's portrayal of himself in a fantasy sequence from season 1. The latest episode of "Barry" happened to include another filmmaker playing themselves: director Sian Heder, whose 2021 film "Coda" won several Academy Awards (including Best Picture).

Do watches have birthday parties?
Luxury Swiss brand Tag Heuer seems to think it should, especially for its iconic motoring-inspired Carrera model, which celebrated its 60th with a glitzy cinema-focused event in central London on Thursday night.
Longtime Tag Heuer ambassadors Patrick Dempsey and Ryan Gosling were arguably the highest-profile attendees, both brought onstage by company boss Frédéric Arnault to discuss their relationship with the company (Dempsey said he first got involved with it nine years ago while racing at Le Mans). Arnault also welcomed Euphoria‘s Jacob Elordi and introduced Alexandra Daddario as its latest celebrity timepiece-wearer (alongside some new photos of her brandishing one of the latest Tag Heuer models). Heartstopper star Kit Connor and House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock were among the guests in the crowd (as was a heavily photographed Porsche 911 Carrera).

The phenomenon of at least three and sometimes even four performers earning Emmy nominations from the same situation comedy series used to be pretty rate. But over the course of the past 13 years, with the increase in the number of category nominees to as many as eight, it’s grown increasingly common. In fact, it’s happened 7 times since 2010 in the supporting actor in a comedy series lineup and three times since 2017 among supporting comedy actresses. And in 2021 and 2022, thanks to “Ted Lasso,” there have been same-series threesomes on both sides.
Looking ahead to this year, the show with the best chance of placing three nominees in a supporting comedy series lineup is “Abbott Elementary” and its 1-2-3 punch of last year’s Emmy champ and current frontrunner Sheryl Lee Ralph, NAACP Image Award victor Janelle James and Lisa Ann Walter. They are right now holding down the 1, 3 and 7 spots,...

“Saturday Night Live” might never end, but one of its long-running Emmy streaks could this year: fielding a nominee in Best Comedy Supporting Actress.
Since the Emmys allowed “SNL” cast members to compete in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has done very well in supporting actress. It has produced at least one nominee every year except in 2013 and 22 altogether, making it the most nominated program in the category. The most successful was, of course, Kate McKinnon, who received nine consecutive bids from 2014-22 and won twice in 2016 and ’17. McKinnon quickly became an automatic nominee for “SNL” — sometimes she was nominated alongside co-stars, sometimes not — but with her no longer on the show, “SNL” might be on the outside looking in this year.
At the moment, the predicted top eight in the odds does not include an “SNL” player. Cecily Strong, a nominee in 2020 and ’21, is the closest in ninth place,...

Saturday Night Live has spawned many stars over the decades, from Eddie Murphy to Will Ferrell and Gilda Radner to Kate McKinnon. Another SNL great is Molly Shannon, who rose to fame on the show in the ’90s. Shannon’s most vital contribution was arguably her character Mary Katherine Gallagher, the awkward Catholic schoolgirl with numerous nervous tics. Since leaving SNL in 2001, the actor/comedian has opened up about her time on the show, often discussing what inspired Mary Katherine Gallagher and the demands of playing the character.

Do you like your sitcoms lighthearted with a hint of mystery? Do you think Jake Peralta is an amazing "detective slash genius"? Do you often restrain yourself from blurting out "title of your sex tape" when someone says something that sounds unintentionally inappropriate? Then you're probably a fan of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" debuted on Fox in 2013, one year after Samberg's exit from "Saturday Night Live." His "Nine-Nine" character, Jake Peralta, is a detective with the NYPD. As with many Samberg roles, Peralta is an endearing goofball, an adult who faces the challenge of growing up without letting go of the boisterous joy that some mistake for immaturity.
After five seasons, Fox unceremoniously canceled "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" in 2018. However, NBC picked it up a day later, ultimately airing the show for three more seasons. There are 153 episodes, and every fan has their favorite. From the...

"Saturday Night Live" has seen quite the exodus of cast members over the past year. At the end of season 47 back in May, the series bid farewell to Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and Kyle Mooney. Then, before season 48 began this past fall, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor left the series along with featured player Aristotle Athari. Finally, the last cast member to walk away from the series was Chris Redd, just a couple weeks before the show's season premiere. Unfortunately, one more cast member has announced their departure, and sadly, it will before the end of season 48.

Just when you think you know everything about one of the most famous celebrities in the world, they always find a way to surprise us. The Academy Award-winning actor/producer has spent his entire life finding different hobbies and side projects to keep himself occupied when he's not being a movie star, including winemaking, sculpting, and apparently now, owning his own genderless skincare line. Brad Pitt has made the decision to let his product speak for itself, instead of turning himself into a spokesmodel in addition to a wellness virtuoso. During an interview with Vogue UK regarding the new product line, Pitt admitted that he was very close to playing a QVC-type host in a romantic comedy years ago, and would have starred alongside Sandra Bullock had the project moved forward. The two both made cameo appearances in their respective films "The Lost City" and "Bullet Train," but surprisingly have never headlined together on screen.
