Israeli filmmaker Dan Sachar has been a favorite around these parts since an early student film of his, When It Will Be Silent, came on our radar in 2009.Sachar's meditative, mystical short form works over the years have culminated with Last Of You, a Pkd-esque take on memory, loss and love. A great break with dinner or lunch, you can watch Last Of You right now, below....

Obviously I enjoy watching short films, and here's the trailer for a great looking sci-fi short called "Last of You," directed by Israeli filmmaker Dan Sachar. This is the guy that directed a great short called "Overture," which I've also included below for you to watch. Here's the synopsis for "Last of You":
The inventor of a memory recording device obsessively replays the last day he shared with his late wife. One night, a call for help forces him to face the outside world and choose between present-time reality or total immersion in the remnants of a playback past.
The movie looks like it was shot very well, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the whole film turns out. Thanks to Twitch for the heads up! ...

This. This looks amazing. This looks heart-wrenching. This looks chilling. And it's barely a 60 second tease. This is how you tease an original science fiction story. An early teaser for a new sci-fi short film has arrived from up-and-coming Israeli filmmaker Dan Sachar. We featured some of Dan's work earlier this year, the short film Overture, and this is his next follow-up. This new short is titled Last of You and is about a man abusing a memory recording device, obsessively replaying the last day he shared with his late wife. That's all we know about it so far, but between that description and the footage, I'm totally sold. Can't wait to see this. Here's the first teaser trailer for Dan Sachar's new short film Last of You, on Vimeo (found via Twitch): In a devastated world, Yonatan, the developer of a device which allows the re-experience of recorded memories,...

Long time readers may recall that we're big fans of Israeli filmmaker Dan Sachar here at Twitch. Way back in 2009 Todd got wind of Sachar's poignant, Tarkovsky-esque short When It Will Be Silent: six minutes that showed a lot of promise. In 2011 Sachar delivered big time on that promise with the pastoral Overture, a post apocalypse for the philosophers and deep thinkers among us (and also my favorite short of that year). Overture was in fact his film school thesis, and upon graduation Sachar was showing no signs of stopping. It is then with great pleasure today that we share the teaser of his latest work Last Of You.The inventor of a memory recording device obsessively replays the last day he shared with...

"And so he became the last soul. Scavenging his own creation... as it withers away around him." As we get excited for the many indies playing at Sundance later this month, lest not forget the many others that have played at countless other festivals, including this one. The short is called Overture, written and directed by Dan Sachar, a haunting sort of post-apocalyptic sci-fi about a man struggling "to connect pieces from his daily scavenging routine and bits from his repressed memory." It has a very mesmerizing feel like The Road or something from Lars von Trier, with very minimal dialogue. Described as "poetic sci-fi at its very best." Short synopsis for Dan Sachar's Israeli short Overture, presented in full by Twitch, on Vimeo: "The abstract story about a lone survivor lost in a dying world. We here at Twitch are fans of Israeli filmmaker Dan Sachar. Big fans. Speaking for myself, his last effort Overture was the best overall short film I saw in 2011, and truth be told it's up there for shorts in general. Here's what I wrote for our Best of 2011 roundup: You may remember a few years back some Twitch love for Dan Sachar's short When It Will Be Silent. With his latest science fiction, Overture, Sachar more than solidifies the filmmaking prowess his previous effort hinted at. Rich with symbolism, light on dialog, moody and languid, Overture is poetic sci-fi at its very best; If you will... a post-apocalyptic pastoral. Ever since I saw it last June it has haunted my thoughts like almost...

San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

There is a growing wave of genre film in Israel, a trend we first noticed thanks to the short films of Dan Sachar that built into a pair of zombie projects produced in the country over the past year. The prime example, however, is the international success of Rabies, a film billed as the country's first ever horror film which went on to huge success on the international festival circuit while being picked up for distribution around the world. The success of Rabies has not gone unnoticed in Israel and now, for the first time, the national film fund has thrown their backing behind some dark genre fare.Goldberg and Eisenberg is a new production that joins Rabies as another fresh direction in the Israeli cinema...

There's something brewing in Israel right now, a new generation of filmmakers bringing a more commercial sensibility and love for genre film than that country has seen in the past. Audiences at Tribeca are getting a taste of that right now with slasher picture Rabies screening in the midnight program while there are a pair of competing Israeli zombie features in production now.And one of the first names to emerge in this wave was Dan Sachar, a young director who burst out in the international genre festival circuit with an early film school project titled When It Will Be Silent. A post-apocalyptic picture shot on location in the blasted no-man's land between Israel and Jordan with a heavy Tarkovsky influence in the style, When...

We see very little genre film emerge out of Israel but one of my favorite shorts in all of last year was a Tarkovsky-influenced piece from there titled When It Will Be Silent. A student film directed by Dan Sachar it was shot in the no-man's land between Israel and Jordan, and it uses the barren region as an incredibly effective setting for it's post apocalyptic world. Simple, beautiful and tragic, this is stellar stuff and Sachar has just put the entire short online. Check it below.
