Grigor Dimitrov is having the best season since 2017, and he's proving it also at the 2023 Shanghai Masters , as he bested Chile's Nicolas Jarry .
The Bulgarian seemingly peaked back in 2017, when he managed to win the Atp Finals, and despite always hovering around the Top 20 since then, Dimitrov never managed to win another title.
It may seem incredible and unbelievable, but it's true, and the six-year streak may end now, at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, a tournament, where Dimitrov managed to stun Carlos Alcaraz .
After beating the young Spaniard, and previously ousting Karen Khachanov and Aleksandar Vukic, the Bulgarian took on Nicolas Jarry, who was also having a great week after beating the likes of Lorenzo Sonego and Diego Schwartzman.
But it's difficult to face someone in such for that the Bulgarian has right now. After winning 49 matches in 2017, Dimitrov never managed to get the number in the wins column past 26, yet,...

Alexander Zverev is thriving in China as he booked a 7th straight win since landing in the country; the latest victim was Nicolas Jarry .
There are many reasons why Alexander Zverev is having such a good time in China, and much of that has to do with the conditions and his style of play. Chengdu worked exceptionally for him because his serve was almost nuclear at that event.
Winning a trophy never hurts your confidence, and even a very late finish a few days ago at the 2023 China Open didn't shake the German. He came out on fire against Nicolas Jarry, smashing the Chilean easily in the opening set. We alluded to this happening in our preview simply because his style gives Jarry so many problems.
The Chilean playing a rather weak first set didn't help his efforts, but Zverev was really solid. 6-1 was the score in the opening...

This exciting matchup between two great players, Alexander Zverev and Nicolas Jarry , could go either way, so let's try the impossible and predict what will happen at the 2023 China Open .
There are many interesting nuggets which makes this a very polarizing matchup. On one hand, we have Alexander Zverev who dealt with an incredibly late finish in the previous round though that was a day ago. He had time to recover properly but had to play a doubles match which might have had some impact on said recovery.
We don't really know, but we'll find out when he faces Nicolas Jarry, who has been really strong for much of this year. The Chilean was once a great player, and he's on track to get back to that level. His bread and butter is clay, but he's capable on other surfaces as well.

Stefanos Tsitsipas continued to struggle with his tennis, suffering a shocking upset against Nicolas Jarry at the China Open .
This match was rather fascinating in many different ways. On the one hand, it's a shocking loss for Tsitsipas because he played really well here in the past, and the conditions suit him really well.
On another note, it's not that surprising if you look at how he played in recent weeks. It's even less shocking when you look at this opponent who already stunned him once this year in similar conditions.
The courts in Asia play rather fast, and Jarry has a powerful serve and a really good forehand. He used it quite often to go to the backhand of Tsitsipas, which isn't his biggest weapon when under pressure.
Tsitispas could have survived this matchup, but he needed to serve well, and he really didn't. Committing a double fault on...

Nicolas Jarry and Stefanos Tsitsipas had some interesting battles in the past and fans are hoping for another one at the 2023 China Open in Beijing.
Neither will be too happy with this draw, but the event is just so strong that there aren't any easy opponents. Tsitsipas need wins and is hopeful of winning, but it's not a guaranteed thing against Jarry, who has given him some trouble in the past.
The Greek player didn't show a very good level in the recent Davis Cup matches , but there is optimism that a return to China could spark something. Nicolas Jarry was pretty solid lately and has been for much of this year. We know what we'll get from the Chilean, which makes this a very interesting matchup.
Head-to-head:

Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet fourth seed Borna Coric in the semifinals of the 2023 Los Cabos Open on Friday, August 4, 2023.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is playing the Los Cabos Open for the first time this week, a decision that might have been fuelled by his desire to end his longest Atp title drought for some time. Standing between Tsitsipas and a final spot is Croatian number four seed Borna Coric.
Tsitsipas began his campaign in the Mexican city with a commanding win over big-serving American John Isner , dispatching the 38-year-old 6-2 6-4. Tsitsipas' serve and movement were on point in that match, and he benefitted from a woeful serving performance by Isner who dropped his serve three times.

Stefanos Tsitsipas had to fight in the 2023 Los Cabos Open quarterfinals, but it was a victorious fight against Nicolas Jarry .
Ahead of the Atp 250 tournament in Mexico, top-seeded Tsitsipas felt good, saying that he has zero responsibility to prove anything to anyone . As the highest seed, he didn't have to play his first-round match, and started immediately in the second round.
In the second round, the Greek played against a big serve in John Isner, but the American isn't having the best season of his life, and therefore, Tsitsipas was able to comfortably win the match and set up a quarterfinal clash with Nicolas Jarry.
The Greek, known for his aggressive approach, found a robust opponent in Jarry. The Chilean, having entered the tournament as a wild card, seemed to have a point to prove and played some of the best tennis of his career, as he's been doing over the past few months.

Stefanos Tsitsipas began his US Open preparations with a thoroughly deserved straight-sets victory over big-serving John Isner .
Tsitsipas, the top seed at the Los Cabos Open , is playing in this tournament for the first time and spoke candidly and with the enthusiasm of his love affair with the Mexican city, likening it to Greece, given the close proximity to the sea. And Tsitsipas' exuberance reflected in his dominant 6-2, 6-4 win over Isner.
Tsitspas started the match on the front foot, manufacturing three successive break points in the fifth game of the first set, courtesy of some uncharacteristic errors from Isner's usually reliable forehand and serve. And the Greek broke to love when a mishit backhand looped over the tall American and landed just inside the opposite baseline.
As if to prove that the first break was not a fluke, Tsitsipas established another 40-0 lead on Isner's serve in the...

Carlos Alcaraz was spotted checking out the screens during his post-match press conferences; it was match scores.
Carlos Alcaraz faced his biggest test at Wimbledon so far in Nicolas Jarry who once again pushed him quite hard on the court. They had a pretty fierce battle earlier this year in Rio which Alcaraz won. That was a pretty close match that the Spaniard had to turn around as Jarry took the opening set.
The trajectory of their Wimbledon match was a bit different but Jarry once again pushed Alcaraz pretty hard, almost forcing him to play a decider. There is just something about the matchup that gives Alcaraz trouble and it doesn't matter whether they play on Jarry's continent or on Alcaraz's.
After the match, Alcaraz had his post-match press conference though reporters spotted him looking at the screens frequently. Alcaraz might be one of the best tennis players in...

A match where Carlos Alcaraz is one of the players predictably got plenty of applause but one was reserved for the umpire.
Carlos Alcaraz and Nicolas Jarry played a really great match that almost went to five sets . Jarry was up a break in the 4th set but collapsed towards the end to allow the Spaniard to escape in four sets.
A really strong match with a lot of highlights featured one that had very little to do with the players. It was the umpire Nico Helwerth who got all the attention when he showed that he has some other skills than being a great umpire.
Jarry hit a really strong serve that Alcaraz didn't quite manage to put back into the court as the ball flew towards the match umpire. It wasn't the quickest of returns which allowed the match umpire to catch the ball with a superb reflex.

Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest tennis player in the Top 50 on the Atp Tour and he's not surprised about it demonstrating full belief in his skillset.
A lot of people are confident in their skills whatever they might be. Not all should be though as there are plenty of people overselling their skills but Carlos Alcaraz is not one of them. The Spaniard is confident , arguably extremely confident but he backs it up as well.
At times he does get humbled like he did against Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros but he's staying consistent with talking a big game. There are plenty of records he already broke and still plenty of those that he will break. He's the youngest man to be number one ever and also the youngest player in the Top 50 in the Atp Rankings right now.

Nicolas Jarry nearly beat Carlos Alcaraz earlier this year on clay and he nearly did it again on grass pushing him to four sets but the Spaniard prevailed at Wimbledon .
Alcaraz wasn't quite sure of his grass level leading up to Wimbledon but he quickly proved rather solid on the surface by winning his maiden grass trophy in Queen's . Wimbledon continued the trend of him winning as he smashed Chardy in the 1st round . He followed that up with another solid performance and it was time for a rematch against Jarry.

Stefanos Tsitsipas didn't have a very good preparation for Wimbledon but he'll be heading into the event with a win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina .
Davidovich Fokina is no slouch on grass as the Spaniard is a former Wimbledon juniors champion. He's played okay on the surface in the professionals on the Atp Tour but certainly not on a level that's title-winning. Tsitispas himself has never been a very good grass player but found some success on it last year by winning his maiden trophy on the grass in Mallorca.
Much of that success is attributed to him hiring former player Mark Philippoussis who improved his serve and his grass level. They parted ways earlier this year and perhaps the poor play from Tsitsipas on the surface is tied to them splitting up. It's unclear but it's an interesting coincidence if nothing else.

Alexander Zverev is putting forward some excellent performances on grass as he booked his first semi-final at the Halle Open in six years by beating Nicolas Jarry in straight sets.
Zverev returned to Halle this year for some grass tennis and it proved quite a good decision. He initially planned to play in Stuttgart but opted against that after picking up an injury against Casper Ruud at the French Open.
The German spoke about feeling much better about his tennis and form leading up to Halle explaining that he feels like he can win events again . A deep run in Paris certainly boosted his confidence and it's showing in Halle. He made a winning start at the event beating Thiem in the opening round and then followed that up by beating Shapovalov next.
In the quarter-final, Zverev faced Nicolas Jarry and it was a really close first set which lasted 12 games in total.

Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced another loss, this time at the 2023 Halle Open to an inspired Nicolas Jarry .
Less than a week ago, the Greek witnessed Richard Gasquet's 600th win in Stuttgart . He quickly forgot it when he moved to Halle, winning his first-round match against Gregoire Barrere in three sets . But in the second round, Tsitsipas wasn't so successful.

Tsitsipas entered the tournament without his former coach Mark Philippoussis , but since the two split he hasn't been really successful. In the first set, the second seed had five break points, but he couldn't use his chances and the set had to be decided in a tie-break.

Borna Coric was about to take on Nicolas Jarry but when entering the court, players encountered someone that they wouldn't expect in the tunnel, Andrey Rublev. The first main draw victor of the day was still there and signing autographs for the fans.
The players' paths inevitably crossed, leading to an amusing encounter. Instead of rushing or appearing flustered, Rublev remained calm and collected, effortlessly sidestepping the incoming athletes while continuing to engage with his fans.

Paul McCartney‘s “Hi, Hi, Hi” and The Beatles‘ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” have something in common. The “Yesterday” singer used the same inspiration for aspects of each song.

In his book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that the absurdist and dramatist Alfred Jarry “figures” in a couple of his songs, both in and out of The Beatles. Paul called Jarry a playful character.
The “Let It Be” singer first came across the dramatist when he heard a BBC Radio 3 production of his play Ubu Cocu, the sequel to the well-known Ubu Roi, around the time The Beatles were making Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967. Paul heard the radio production while driving down the highway one day, and a couple of aspects intrigued him.

Many things have influenced Paul McCartney‘s songs over the years. Sometimes a single tune had multiple inspirations, including The Beatles‘ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.” Here are all the references in the Abbey Road song.
The Beatles’ Paul McCartney | McCarthy/Getty Images Alfred Jarry inspired Paul McCartney to write an obscure lyric in The Beatles’ ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’
In his book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul explained that while he was driving down the highway one day, he heard a broadcast of Ubu Cocu on BBC Radio 3.
Ubu Cocu is one of three plays, including the better-known Ubu Roi, by the French dramatist Alfred Jarry. It’s subtitled “a pataphysical extravaganza.” Paul said “pataphysical” is a word Jarry made up to “poke fun at toffee-nosed academics.”
Paul liked the word and decided to add it to The Beatles’ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.” He was thrilled when he could rhyme “quizzical” with “pataphysical.

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Feb 26 (Ians) Spanish former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz twice came back from the brink of defeat and also braved a niggle to his upper left leg to overcome qualifier Nicolas Jarry of Chile in three sets in the semifinals of the Rio Open Atp Tour event here. He will next face Briton Cameron Norrie in the final.
Alcaraz, who is on a perfect run following his return from injury that kept him out of the Australian Open, was facing a really tough time against Jarry, who was giving the Spaniard all he could handle in Saturday’s Rio Open semifinals.
The Chilean was twice within two games of victory at 4-4 and 5-5 in the second set, with Alcaraz receiving treatment on his upper left leg after holding on both of those occasions.
But just when he seemed at his most vulnerable, not having seen a...

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Feb 21 (Ians) Local star Thiago Monteiro reached the second round at a tour-level event for the first time this season when he clawed past former champion Dominic Thiem 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(2) at the Rio Open here.

There’s a lyric in “Hi, Hi, Hi” that Paul McCartney admits is “cheeky.” The BBC banned the song for a different reason than the bold line. The former Beatle didn’t care either way.
