On TikTok, a fan of Chappell Roan’s shared a video of the singer performing “Pink Pony Club” in 2021 at a Los Angeles fundraiser. Roan is by herself, playing the keyboard in front of small audience and not as glammed up as she is nowadays on stage.
Roan’s rapidly growing fanbase has been stitching this video with their own footage of the 26-year-old playing the song three years later, this time either while opening for friend Olivia Rodrigo in arenas or for one of her own sold out headlining shows.

Tracy Chapman brought down the house with a stunning performance of “Fast Cars” alongside Luke Combs. Joni Mitchell earned a rousing ovation for her first performance on the Grammy stage, singing “Both Sides Now” while backed by Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, Sistastrings, Lucius, Jacob Collier, and Blake Mills. Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees features the Platinum single “Run Away to Mars” and viral hit “A Little Bit Happy,” the ambitious collection shoots for the stars—and stadiums—with inspirations from Meatloaf, Broadway, and ‘80s and ‘90s rock.
“The concept for ‘Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees’ was dreamed up by my executive producer Justin Tranter and I,” Talk explains. “I think what we created was almost exactly what was originally envisioned—an album that was made with love and heart, that I hope will put a smile on people’s faces or be a warm hug to those who need one.”

Selena Gomez has dipped into her archives and shared a video of her crafting her 2019 hit, “Lose You to Love Me.”

Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” is one of the band’s most famous classic rock songs. Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” reuses the bassline of the song. Subsequently, Talking Heads’ David Byrne revealed what he thought about Gomez’s track.
Why Talking Heads’ David Byrne was alright with Selena Gomez sampling ‘Psycho Killer’
During a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Byrne was asked if he was upset with Gomez for decontextualizing “Psycho Killer.” “No, no, not at all,” he responded. “I mean, I would have an issue if somebody took, say, ‘This Must Be the Place,’ which is a very personal love song — if somebody repurposed that and made it into some kind of horrible violent thing, I would probably say, ‘No, you do not have permission to do this.’
“Other than that, yeah, repurpose the stuff,” he added. “That’s totally fine. And, you know, we get paid for it too.

The 2023 Emmy nominations are here. The slate of nominees include "Succession" (which aired its final season this spring), "Ted Lasso" (which also just wrapped up its last season), "Yellowjackets," and many more. And while there are some long-deserved Emmy nominations we're very excited about, there are also a lot of nominations that didn't happen, leaving viewers and fans surprised at these major misses. Ahead, these are the biggest snubs of the 2023 Emmy nominations.
Emmys Snub: The Cast of "House of the Dragon"
"House of the Dragon," the "Game of Thrones" prequel series that won fans' hearts last fall, was nominated for nine awards. None of them were for acting, despite a very strong ensemble. Most egregious in our eyes is the exclusion of Emma D'Arcy's leading performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy's portrayal of the heir in an impossible position is full of nuance, pain, and tenderness. And if...

Ari Notartomaso stars in Paramount+'s musical "Grease" prequel series "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies" as Cynthia, a butch lesbian in the 1950s who's coming into her own despite the regressive social forces around her. Notartomaso's performance became a fan favorite not just because of Cynthia's journey, but also because of their powerhouse vocals on songs like "Crushing Me" and "I'm All In." Season one ended earlier this June.

It may surprise most music fans to hear a songwriter whose credits include seven multi-platinum singles say there isn’t much money to make for their work anymore. But to the fellow songwriters who’ve spent years asking why their revenues have dried up in the streaming era, such a claim is yet another affirmation for how difficult it’s become to enjoy a sustainable career.

A version of this story about the choreography of “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
As the old song goes, “Grease” is the time, the place and the motion — and the latter is provided for the Paramount+ prequel series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” by none other than Jamal Sims, the show’s choreographer and one of its director. The first hurdle was how to weave a new dance language with that of a film that pretty much everyone knows.
“It was really one of the films that made me want to be a dancer,” Sims, who as a choreographer has worked on everything from the Oscars to “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to “Encanto” to the “Step Up” franchise, said. “You know, we didn’t have a lot of musicals when it came out. And then to see...

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies" star Tricia Fukuhara takes our call.
One thing about Tricia Fukuhara is that she can hustle. Before the actor was cast as Nancy in Paramount+'s "Rise of the Pink Ladies," which released its first season finale on June 1, she was working odd jobs in Los Angeles. "I had three jobs at the time," she tells Popsugar of the period when she was auditioning for the role. And she was literally on a shift at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter when she got the news she'd landed the part.
"It was my frog choir job at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter," she says.

As the Writers Guild of America continues to ramp up its first strike in over 15 years, no one in the music business has been looking on with more intrigue — and maybe a hint of envy — than songwriters. The cadre of behind-the-scenes hitmakers have themselves been looking for ways to push reforms of their own for years, albeit to much less media coverage than what the WGA saw this week.

Director-choreographer Jamal Sims and “Grease” go together like “rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong.” Now, he’s channeled his lifelong love of the film as choreographer of the Paramount+ musical series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.” A prequel to the movie, the series shares the origin story of Rydell High’s infamous Pink Ladies, who initiate a wave of change that ripples through the high school in 1954. But Sims was initially hesitant to join the project.
“‘Grease’ means so much to so many people,” Sims told IndieWire. “It was when I read the script by our lovely, brilliant showrunner, Annabel Oakes, I thought, ‘This is not what people are going to expect.’”
The script included brand-new characters (though keep an eye out for younger versions of two future Pink Ladies) challenging societal norms of the 1950s, as well as new songs written by Justin Tranter, who has worked with Justin Bieber,...

The third time at the Emmys may be the charm for Peacock and Paramount+.
Often used as punchlines in conversations about the streaming wars, as their subscriber numbers still pale in comparison to behemoths like Netflix and Disney+, the two services seem to have quelled their growing pains by ending the fiscal year strong, and entering 2023 with their most successful programming yet both critically and commercially.
Still, with most streaming services fumbling toward profitability, the type of validation even a major Emmy nomination can give turns this TV awards season into a make-it-or-break-it situation for Peacock and Paramount+. To finally have formidable contenders for the biggest Emmy categories of the night like Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Drama Series, with a proven, broad audience and critical acclaim, and still be shut out of nominations could serve a deadly blow to the two streaming services’ future programming potential.

“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” music producer and songwriter Justin Tranter says their prolific career actually started with a passion for musicals.
“Musicals are why I started making music as a kid. Even though I was in a rock band and now I make pop music, musicals are why I started making music in the first place,” the Grammy-nominated songwriter told Variety at the Paramount+ series’ premiere Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Tranter has worked with Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, the Chicks, Leon Bridges, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, just to name a few.
After “fighting hard” to join “Rise of the Pink Ladies” and providing demos for showrunner Annabel Oakes, the two then teamed up with choreographer Jamal Sims for the series. Along with some co-writers, Tranter wrote and produced 30 original songs for the 10-episode season.

The musical series takes place four years before the original “Grease.” In 1954, before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever. The show will premiere on Thursday, April 6, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.

Poised for a breakout 2023, Chappell Roan kicked off her first headlining tour across North America earlier this month and shares the much anticipated new video for her single, ‘Casual’. The video for the early hit, which landed on ‘Best of 2022’ lists in Rolling Stone, Billboard, LA Times, Glamour and more, was directed by Hadley Hillel and puts a cinematic twist on the heroine’s narrative with Chappell falling for the most unexpected love interest.

Co-produced by frequent collaborator Daniel Nigro and Ryan Linvill, the song is a visceral ode to the painful ambiguities of modern dating and youthful lust,...

Before there was Sandy and Danny, there was — well, Rydell High was still pretty musical. But the Pink Ladies were just finding their way. In Paramount+’s new series, fans are set to see the beginning of Rydell’s coolest female clique, and how it was originally created specifically for the outcasts.
The newest trailer for the series, set to premiere on the streamer in April, came during Monday morning’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” accompanied by the four original Pink Ladies themselves.
