In addition to Raine, StarMaker received investments from Crosscut Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Three Bridges Ventures, Gree International, and iGlobe Partners. Machinima co-founder Allen DeBevoise and Tastemade co-founder Joe Perez individually contributed to the series B round, as well. StarMaker hopes to use the influx of cash to expand its global platform, services, and programming offerings.
“What attracted us to StarMaker is the transformative power of the platform to discover and develop new artists and the subsequent ability to plug them into opportunities across multiple distribution platforms,” said Gordon Rubenstein, Managing Partner of Raine Ventures, in a release. “StarMaker’s combination of technology, rights, content, and partnerships make them the new heavyweight in music video,...

Three former Demand Media execs have begun to make YouTube a bit tastier. Larry Fitzgibbon, Joe Perez and Steven Kydd have launched Tastemade, a YouTube network focusing on culinary channel and dubbed the "Machinima of food". Tastemade emulates Machinima in several ways. As with the gaming hub, it is focusing on a popular YouTube genre, attempting to run several popular cooking series under one roof. It has also secured a $5.3 million Series A investment from Redpoint Ventures, who also invested in Machinima. Finally, it has followed Machinima's lead by aligning itself with the YouTube Original Channels Initiative, joining the project during the second round of partnerships. The Tastemade Original Channel gives potential partners an idea of what the network is looking for: high quality food videos, particularly those focused on unique recipes and dining experiences, with a particularly worldly vibe. Tastemade is the second network we've written about in the...
