Neil Scandrett was born in 1976 in London, England. As a child he immersed himself in the television shows of the time as well as having a passion for children's books. His two favorite subjects at school were English and drama at which he excelled but he struggled at other subjects. In his teens he moved to rural Cornwall and his interest moved into film and he loved the movies of the 1980's, a love which still exists to this day. He began to record films off the television onto VHS tapes so he could watch them over and over. He was heavily influenced by filmmakers like John Carpenter, James Cameron and Ridley Scott. When he left school there was only one industry that appealed to him and at the age of nineteen, after spending a few years working in hotels and traveling, he enrolled at Newcastle College for performing arts in the north east of England. During his studies he discovered that he did not enjoy acting, he had creative ideas of his own and felt stifled being told what to say and how to say it. He left college and began studying the process of script writing. He did not want to go back to college so studied by reading every book he could find on the subject and watching every film he could from all genres.
In 2002 he felt ready and sat down and wrote a short film, he showed this to his friends who were also trying to make a name for themselves in the film industry. They were very impressed by the emotional depth of the script and immediately it into production, although the film was shot it was never released due to production problems.
In 2008 Richard Purves, a friend of his, was looking to make his first short film and approached Neil for idea's. Together they came up with the dark thriller Mayfly and, although Richard wanted to write the script, Neil helped his friend and in 2009 Mayfly was sent out into the film industry. Mayfly was well received and was premiered at the Burbank Film Festival and won Gold in the science fiction category at Houston World Fest.
Recently Neil has begun working with Richard again on a feature script for the US film market. He currently lives in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England with his partner Louise.
