Fathom Events, the premier name in specialty distribution, is partnering with New York-based Paper Canoe Company to bring the new fantasy film Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps to theaters nationwide this summer, we’ve learned this week.
Coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of The NeverEnding Story, the film marks the long-anticipated return to the big screen of that film’s iconic Childlike Empress, Tami Stronach, in her first film role since the Fantasy classic. The feature debut of veteran comedy director Michael Hines (the long-running Scottish cult comedy Still Game), Man and Witch is a labor of love from producer and star Stronach and her husband, co-star, and the film’s writer Greg Steinbruner.
A throwback to the films that captured the imagination of a generation, Man and Witch follows a lonely goatherd (Steinbruner) who, having been cursed at birth to never take a wife, makes...

Following a nationwide search, “The Crown” has found its Prince William in newcomer Senan West, Variety can exclusively reveal.
The 13 year old is the real-life son of Dominic West, who takes over from Josh O’Conner as Prince Charles in the highly anticipated fifth season of the hit Netflix show. Elizabeth Debicki (“Tenet”) will play his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, replacing Emma Corrin.
Variety understands Senan has been cast as a slightly older Prince William, portraying him as he begins to mature into a young man. He will make his on-screen debut in the final episodes of the season. It’s believed the young actor’s audition, submitted via tape by his agent, caught the attention of the show’s producers.
William had only just turned 15 in 1997 when Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris alongside her beau, Dodi Al Fayed. As Variety revealed in September, Al...

Dominic West is delighted his young daughter decided to follow him into acting - as she has a "real talent" for performing in front of the camera.
Martha West, 12, starred alongside Paul Bettany in 2009 movie Creation, playing Charles Darwin's daughter, Annie.
Her father is pleased she's showing potential at such a young age - but admits he did try to put her off the profession.
The Wire star tells Britain's Guardian newspaper, "She kept bothering me. So eventually I said: 'All right if you want to see what it's like, audition for this! And then you'll see what hell my life is.' Turns out she's got real talent and who am I to stand in the way of that?"...

“Hot Tub Time Machine”
I can’t help but believe that Steve Pink’s “Hot Tub Time Machine” missed a golden opportunity to truly lampoon the excessive ’80s decade — and probably left a little money on the table as a result.
By sending John Cusack back to the magical era of such ribald comedies as “Better Off Dead,” “Sixteen Candles” or “The Sure Thing,” “Time Machine” should have riffed on an established comedic formula to capture the reasons why a certain generation cherishes those films. Instead, Pink unleashes co-stars Rob Corddry and Craig Robinson for a tasteless string of vomit, piss, and dog crap jokes. Ugh. We traveled back in time for this?

Bob Ellis looks back at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.
We are forbidden urination after a three-hour film and herded bursting out into the rain and pushed in front of speeding traffic by big Tongan guardians of the Red Carpet while inside, in the ever-gorgeous art-deco foyer, barmen and pie vendors gazed on its lovely emptiness planning their bankruptcies and other careers and cursing, like all of us, the Clare Stewart Effect on world cinema.
Audiences entering successive sessions without hellish incident these last 113 years have not educated this woman; clamour, ticketless offices, caffeine deprivation, pissed trousers and lack of a chance to chat between sessions (or even sit on the marble steps) have characterised her Cromwellian rule for years now and several deaths, I calculate, from the pelting rain and it is wrong for her to preen her ghastly dress sense in golden spotlight just because certain films...

There's a scene in the new film Creation, which stars Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin, in which the naturalist's old friend Joseph Hooker (Benedict Cumberbatch) pulls a depressed and ailing Darwin out of bed, telling him that he absolutely must complete Origin of Species. "This is a battle we must fight," he says. "We must." Despite his infirmity and the grief Darwin felt over the death of his precocious daughter Annie (Martha West), he did, of course, get out of bed. And he did, of course, complete his book. And, as we all know, he did, of course, change the world. But did he win the war? Or even the battle? Evolution is accepted scientific fact the world over, and yet there are no shortage of people on the planet who consider themselves Creationists.

Darwin, the movie — a good idea in theory.

You'd figure that formulating the basics of evolutionary biology would involve some hard traveling, both mental and nautical. But sweat cures? Stuffed-bird riots? Little ghostie girls chattering in a corner? Who knew about that stuff?
Director Jon Amiel's "Creation" is an imaginative approach to an impossible project. First, it undertakes to tell the story of the naturalist Charles Darwin's 20-year struggle with the research that became "On the Origin of Species," his world-changing book about the way in which plants and animals have evolved over the ages through a process that Darwin called natural (as opposed to divine) selection. The movie also sketches in the five-year-long, globe-girdling voyage during which he collected the compendious data for his book, along with much peripheral information about his health (wretched), his relationship with his devoutly religious wife...

Those who say that people who achieve greatness in the arts and sciences have tortured psyches will gain points for their arguments by seeing Jon Amiel.s .Creation.. Based on a book written by Charles Darwin.s great-great grandson, Randal Keynes, .Creation. shows us the man not in his older years with a long, white beard (which makes him look more senior than his 73 years) but as a middle-aged man in his forties going through cycles of trauma, drama and occasionally some euphoria. Played winningly by the great British actor Paul Bettany, who teams up with his real-life partner Jennifer Connelly in the role of his wife, Emma, the film written by John Collee from a story by the scripter and the director takes us into the mind and heart of the author of one of the world.s one hundred greatest masterpieces, .On the Origin of Species,. which sold...

I was looking forward to watching Creation as I hoped it would illuminate the facts and enable me to examine my views on Evolution. As a Religious Studies teacher I get many
questions about how the universe came into being, and I was hoping that as a film lover, (and understanding that many of my students would see this film), it may answer some of
those questions.
Creation stars Paul Bettany, Jennifer Connelly, Jeremy Northam, Toby Jones, Jim Carter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martha West and is directed by Jon Amiel.
Sadly, as the film unfolded I became more and more disappointed. it was useful to understand the plight of Darwin himself, his own wrestle with faith and perhaps God himself, however it did not reflect his theory of Evolution and Natural Selection as I would have wished. I was hoping to see his experiments and procedures come to life on the screen,...

Dave here, with a bit of a sneak peek of sorts. Conveniently enough, news came today that Charles Darwin biopic Creation, which had been said to be without a distributor, has been picked up by Newmarket for a December release in the Us - a company that, as everyone and their mother has already pointed out, is most famous for releasing The Passion of the Christ. A December release suggests they're going for the awards on this one - but hold your horses. The British release date was today, and, like a good little film scholar, I went along to the first screening at my cinema to check it out.
Of course awards don't necessarily equal quality all of the time, and vice versa, so for all I know Creation could still be in with some kind of shot, but on initial impressions it looks doubtful. It's a competent, polished production,...

It must be nice for these Hollywood A-Listers to actually be able to work with their real life partners rather than spending months and months away from each other whilst filming takes place.
Real life husband and wife duo, Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly get their chance to work together in period drama, 'Creation' which focus on the life of Charles Darwin and his wife, Emma Darwin. The story focuses around English naturalist Charles Darwin and his struggles to find a balance between his revolutionary theories on evolution and the relationship with religious wife, whose faith contradicts his work. The supporting cast includes Jeremy Northam, Toby Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martha West.

It's ironic that Paul Bettany's next role sees him play an angel with a machine gun (in Legion), because his next film, Creation, sees him struggling with questions of faith as he plays revolutionary evolutionary naturalist Charles Darwin. These pictures show Bettany as Charles himself, Jennifer Connelly as his religious wife Emma, Martha West as the Darwins' daughter Annie and Jeremy Northam as their preacher Reverend Innes. As a specual bonus, it also includes pictures of an orangutan. A small, cute orangutan. Honestly, if that doesn't get you through Wednesday we don't know what will.Toby Jones and Benedict Cumberbatch also star, with Jon Amiel directing. Creation is due out in the UK on September 25.
