When it comes to indie flicks, I try not to go into them with many expectations. The only expectations I have is to not judge them as I would a big budgeted film. The reason for that is with a big budget film directed by big directors, you have more of a sense of what to expect and higher expectations, since a company picked that particular person to drop loads of cash on and trusts him or her to deliver them a huge cash-grabbing hit. With indies it’s either one of the first films from a director and a self-funded project. Well these days they can also be funded by sites like Kickstarter. What indie films and big studio films do have in common are that they try to tell a story (most of the time) and have hopes that audiences will love what they put out. The indie...

Man, looking back at it, 2015 seems like an awfully long time ago now. Donald Trump wasn’t yet installed in the White House, the alt-right, though forever bubbling away, hadn’t been emboldened into action across the globe and we, here in the UK, weren’t yet divided by the madness of Brexit.

We've been excited for Daily Dead readers to see Ted Geoghegan's Mohawk since our own Patrick Bromley gave it a four-star review at Chicago's Cinepocalypse, and thankfully the wait is almost over, as Dark Sky Films has announced an April 10th Blu-ray and DVD release of the latest film from the director of We Are Still Here:
Press Release: After its hit festival run, Dark Sky Films is proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of Ted Geoghegan's Mohawk on April 10th. The release will feature reversible box art (pictured above). Mohawk is a no-holds-barred action-thriller marking the second team-up between writer-director Ted Geoghegan, producer Travis Stevens, cinematographer Karim Hussain and Dark Sky Films after their award-winning 2015 horror hit, We Are Still Here.
After one of her tribe sets an American camp ablaze, a young Mohawk warrior finds herself pursued by a contingent of military renegades set on revenge.

Justin Rain, Eamon Farren and Kaniehtiio Horn in Mohawk
Most indie filmmakers, looking to shoot on a low budget, first consider the stories they might tell set in their own times and their own neighbourhoods. Ted Goeghegan's ambition is of a different order. In Mohawk, released today on VoD and Digital HD, he sets out to tell a two hundred year old war story about an intercontinental conflict and its impact on a persecuted people. The film, considering its budgetary restrictions, makes a lot more impact than you might expect. I asked him how it came about.
“I grew up in rural Montana in the Western part of the United States, and I was constantly around Native American people," he begins. "Ten years ago I moved to New York City and I was very surprised by the lack of indigenous people that I saw while living in Manhattan, but at...

Kaniehtiio Horn (Hemlock Grove), Justin Rain (Fear the Walking Dead), and Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks: The Return) star as three young lovers who set fire to an American camp as retribution for the decimation of the Mohawk people, but a handful of soldiers survive, now consumed by a hunger for revenge. Horrible things have always happened in the woods in horror movies, and “Mohawk” is no exception to the rule. But director Ted Geoghegan (“We Are Still Here”) twists the familiar revenge tropes in his historical thriller, exposing the brutality of racism and the dire future being faced by members of the Mohawk tribe in New York during the War of 1812. Taking cues from “Deliverance” and “I Spit On Your Grave,” “Mohawk” substitutes rape with racism, and puts Native Americans front and center in a revenge tale that doesn’t pull punches.
“Mohawk” sets the stage for conflict in the film’s opening scene, as Joshua (Eamon Farren), a British agent, speaks with members of the Mohawk tribe, warning them that American soldiers are on the move and will be coming for their land. Throughout the war, the tribe has remained neutral — but with the battleground approaching their own backyard, Joshua...

In director Ted Geoghegan’s debut We Are Still Here, the subtlest horrors came from quiet images of nature. Within its context, creaking trees and beautiful landscapes instilled an insidious sense of indifference to the angered spirits born from injustice inside the walls of an old home. In his follow-up Mohawk, Geoghegan and returning cinematographer Karim Hussain allow nature to envelop almost every frame, as a narrative of injustice now spills across a dirt-caked landscape of oppression, blood, and cultural roots.
These roots belong to the titular Mohawk tribe, whose land has been invaded by a warring America and Britain, with battle lines and blood drawn in soil belonging to neither side. Angrily caught in this crossfire are two members of the Mohawk tribe, Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn), and Calvin Two Rivers (Justin Rain), along with their British companion and lover Joshua (Eamon Farren). I've got a thrilling trailer for a great looking film that is worth checking out called Mohawk. The film comes from We Are Still Here director Ted Geoghegan, and the story is set during the War of 1812. It follows a young Mohawk warrior embarking on a journey of revenge as she hunts down the American soldiers that are after her. As you might imagine, the movie looks like it's gonna be pretty brutal. I'm really excited about this movie and I can't wait to check it out!
After one of her tribe sets an American camp ablaze, a young Mohawk warrior finds herself pursued by a contingent of military renegades set on revenge. Fleeing deep into the woods they call home, Oak and Calvin, along with their British companion Joshua, must now fight back against the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt and his soldiers – using every resource both real and supernatural that the winding forest can offer.

"There's something in these woods!" Dark Sky Films has debuted an official trailer for indie action thriller Mohawk, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year. From director Ted Geoghegan, the is about a badass, young Mohawk warrior who wages a one-woman war against bloodthirsty soldiers. Starring Canadian actress Kaniehtiio "Tiio" Horn (seen on Netflix's "Hemlock Grove") as Oak, who was raised on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve in Quebec with her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, a Mohawk political activist who was once a '60s fashion model. Set late in the War of 1812, Oak and her two lovers battle a squad of American soldiers hell-bent on revenge after one of her tribe sets. Also starring Eamon Farren, Justin Rain, Ezra Buzzington, Noah Segan, Ian Colletti, Robert Longstreet, and Sheri Foster. This does look cool, though I'm not sure if the action is going to be great, this trailer doesn't have much.

Ted Geoghegan's latest feature is a historical horror feature, set in the War of 1812. Geoghegan's previous film, We are Still Here (2015) went onto win awards. Recently, Mohawk completed a film festival run, in 2017. Here, it won a great deal of praise. The film is a Dark Sky Films and Snowfort Pictures' production. Also, this title is slated for an early March release, through Video-on-demand and in a few select theatres (listed below). Kaniehtiio Horn ("Hemlock Grove") centrally stars, along with Ezra Buzzington (The Hills Have Eyes, 2006), Eamon Farren ("Twin Peaks: The Return"), Justin Rain and many others. A preview of the film's home entertainment launch is hosted here. The War of 1812 pitted U.S. forces against several European nations. In the midst of this chaos, an American camp is destroyed, by a Native American tribe. Revenge is sought on a Mohawk warrior. As the Americans close in, including...

As feature debuts go, director Ted Geoghegan’s 2015 ghost story We Are Still Here was a real kick in the ass: a slow-burn throwback to the work of Lucio Fulci that spent most of its running time building dread and atmosphere before exploding into outrageous gore in its go-for-broke climax. Beyond being an extremely effective haunted house movie (my favorite horror movie of that year), it was also a sad and atmospheric meditation on grief and loss—there was a genuine emotional backbone to the story, making it just as involving as it was scary.
For Mohawk, his 2017 follow-up that recently screened at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse film festival, Geoghegan has done it again, sneaking a real human story into thrilling genre fare. This time out, though, the human story is even more pronounced given its roots; Geoghegan has moved away from the supernatural horror of We Are Still Here and...

The depiction of Native Americans in the movies is notorious for its reductive stereotypes. By those standards, “Mohawk,” a bloody, low-budget survival saga about members of a flailing tribe facing off against brutish American soldiers during the war of 1812, arrives like a revelation. The sophomore feature from Ted Geoghegan is a far cry from the haunted house tropes of his debut, “We Are Still Here,” but it explores a much more realistic horror — the struggle to survive against ruthless persecution, even as the future looks grim.
It’s a fast-paced action-thriller that, while rough around the edges, delivers a wild ride — and an implicit rebuke to the limitations of Hollywood storytelling.
The movie, which premiered at the 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival, revolves around the plight of Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn), a young member of the Mohawk tribe in upstate New York, and the two men with whom she enjoys a polyamorous...

We are sadly months away from the June premiere of Season 2 of the Syfy original series Defiance. To tide us over, Syfy has released the first two of what are hopefully many “Jesse Does Defiance” featurettes with Jesse Rath (yes, Meaghan’s brother), who plays Alak Tarr on the show.
The good news about this long wait, besides the featurettes, is that there’s plenty of time to rewatch (or check out for the first time) Season 1, the finale of which was aired all the way back in July of last year. The entire Season 1 is available right now on your On Demand channel and here online.
Here’s a nice two-minute summary of the show, via last summer’s Comic-Con reel, followed by the featurettes:
Trailer: Defiance – Comic-Con 2013 Reel
Featurette: Defiance – Season 2: Jesse Does Defiance – Set Tour
Featurette: Defiance – Season 2: Jesse Does Defiance – Breaking Bread
Defiance, starring Grant Bowler,...

Syfy has announced that the great game/series crossover Defiance is set to return to production in Toronto next week for Season 2. Along with that announcement comes the first information about new and returning cast and production, starting with James Murray as Mayor Pottinger. Ooo. He was the dishy Stephen from when-it-was-great Season 1 and 2 of Primeval.
But wait, there’s more – “Grant Bowler returns as Nolan, along with … Stephanie Leonidas as Irisa Nolan, Tony Curran as Datak Tarr…” Okay, we saw Nolan revive, which explains how he can return, but Irisa, what the heck did she turn into? Apparently still Irisa, so that’s good news. And excellent, Tony Curran will be back as Datak, so… how will he get out of the blood-covered mess he was in?

Question: I’ve been dying for some Bones spoilers. Do you know when and how Booth and Brennan will get married? —Anne
Ausiello: No, but series creator Hart Hanson does, and here’s what he’s willing to share: “Like most things we do on Bones, the wedding will happen in a way you don’t expect and a time you don’t expect.” And what that, Mr. Cryptic McObscureson strikes again!

Set to hit theaters around the globe at the stroke of midnight, "Twilight" mania has taken over the movie world.
With the third installment of the hit vampire series opening in a record number of theaters - 4,416 screens - there's definitely the expectation of Huge earnings for the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner led film.
Stirring up a little relationship talk prior to the release, producer Wyck Godfrey recently spoke with Time magazine of the Kristen/Robert off-screen chatter.
Of the real-life romance, Godfrey tells, "I honestly don’t think of it in terms of business. It doesn’t affect our core business at all. The thing I do think about is, Oh my God, I hope they stay together. Because it could be awkward on set in the next movie if they have a huge falling out. It’s like, Wow, they have to portray this love story through two more movies.
