Edgar Wright was, by his own account, "21 years old, living in North London, broke and on the dole – that's British for 'welfare'" in 1995 when he was struck by what he can only compare to a near-religious vision. The filmmaker was in the process of editing his first movie, a low-budget Spaghetti western homage, but the future director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had nothing lined up and no sense of what he really wanted to do with his life. And then he put on "Bellbottoms," the first...

Exclusive: Sightseers co-writer and star is directing and starring in Prevenge while seven-and-a-half months pregnant.
Sightseers co-writer and star Alice Lowe is set to start shooting her directorial debt feature, provisionally titled Prevenge, on Thursday (Oct 29) in Cardiff. Western Edge Pictures/Gennaker is fully financing.
Lowe, who is seven-and-a-half months pregnant in real life, also stars as a pregnant woman on a killing spree, targeting individuals from different walks of life. Her motivation for revenge is gradually revealed.
Lowe described Prevenge as a “post-feminist revenge movie”. The writer-director has structured a narrative for the film and said it is “a classic revenge tale and very episodic, so the structure was quite laid out,” but will also employ improvisation on set.
“We’re using improvisation a lot and that’s quite a good tool if you are confident enough to use it,” Lowe told ScreenDaily.
“You can get really, really exciting results from that that give it a freshness...

We've seen in Pitch Perfect, and the trailers for the upcoming Into The Woods, that Anna Kenrick has one hell of a singing voice, but next year will see her really exercise it in The Last Five Years, based on the off Broadway musical of the same name. Directed by P.S. I Love You's Richard Lagravenese, the film charts the romance between Cathy (Kendrick) and Jamie (Jeremy Jordan) as both their careers put pressures on both their lives. Told almost entirely through song, the movie tells each side of the story in reverse: Cathy's side from the end of their marriage, while Jamie's takes us right back to the beginning of their relationship. The first trailer below is absolutely bursting with energy, and this movie should be a must for anybody loves musicals, featuring some fantastic performances from the lead pair. Check it out below. The Last Five...

Doctor Who has survived more than five decades and with good reason. The British series combines adventure, drama, and science fiction into something adults and children alike can enjoy. Although it is generally considered to be a family-friendly show, it is very often dark and terrifying (which is why people like me are so addicted to it). The Doctor has tackled horror staples like vampires, werewolves, zombies, and demons but also hundreds of original foes from all over the galaxy. The following is my list of Doctor Who's most terrifying monsters. I narrowed it down to the ones that personally scared me, not simply my favorites (hello, Daleks). I also aim to focus on the ones who made a major impact in the episode or appeared multiple times. If I were to name every eerie monster on Who, we'd be here all day! Hell, the most recent season alone...

Today is the eleventh anniversary of September 11. I lost several friends in New York City in the towers that day, and was living in Washington, D.C. at the time, and saw armored personnel carriers roll down the street. I don't care to live in fear of that day, or use it as a call to war, but today, I take a moment and remember the people I lost from my life that day.

Online video and web series news worth clicking today… Workshop the series debuts Season 2 today on Hulu after inking a distribution deal with the network earlier this spring. Creator Nate Golon is calling it the first half-hour web comedy to premiere on the site, and looking back over our records, he may be right. “As an added bonus, we’ve also posted episode 2, since people were patient enough to wait an extra week,” said Golon on the launch. That means you’ll need to earmark about 44 minutes for this comedic look inside the world of struggling La actors. 20 minutes in, we’d have to say it’s worth it. Six episodes total are due out this season, adding up to a whopping 132 minutes of comedy. [Workshop on Hulu] ElfQuest came to life last night with the SAG screening and release of the “fan imagined” trailer for a would-be series based on the popular comic book series.
