A Christmas treat from 1995: but does anyone else remember The Forgotten Toys?
Over the years, British animation has given us a few good television specials in the Christmas season, including classic cartoons like The Snowman, stop-motion treats like Wallace & Gromit and more recent CG-animated Julia Donaldson adaptations like The Gruffalo and the upcoming Stick Man.

A lot of these specials enjoy annual exposure in the Christmas telly schedules, winning over different generations of viewers. Ironically, a less remembered special is The Forgotten Toys, which first aired on Children's ITV on Boxing Day in 1995. I took the wife and kids to two of the Free events last weekend and we had a blast!
Cinema St. Louis’ Sliff/Kids, the First Annual St. Louis International Children’s Film Festival presented by Pnc Arts Alive continues this weekend.
Here are the Sliff/Kids Venues for the last weekend of the fest:
• Ronnies 20 Cine: 5320 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Attendees should go to the box office when they arrive at the theater to obtain complimentary tickets. • St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library Auditorium (screenings) and Creative Experience (camps): 1301 Olive St. downtown. • Washington University’s Brown Hall Auditorium: Forsyth Boulevard and Chaplin Drive (two blocks west of Skinker Boulevard). Parking is available in the lots between Skinker Boulevard and Chaplin Drive; no permits are required. And here is the line-up for the films show at Sliff/Kids this weekend. Did we mention that everything is Free??!!

Sliff/Kids opens tonight! I’m planning on attending tonight’s show and tomorrow night’s as well. This should be a great, Free, event and hopefully will turn into an annual fest.

Just in time for the little ones to go back to school for another year of reading, writing and ‘ritmatic, comes another valuable DVD collection from those award winning producers of children’s entertainment and education, Scholastic Storybook Treasures. This particular collection, Adventures in School, won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children’s Videos. Scholastic Storybook Treasures adapts beloved children’s books into animated form. They’ve translated the works of Rosemarie Wells and Doreen Cronin, as well as producing cartoon versions of favorite characters like Curious George. Adventures in School gives us 14 stories, spanning from Petunia (1950) to How Do Dinosaurs Go to School (2007). All these stories revolve around school and things young kids might need to know before starting their first, or latest, semester.
