Maarten van der Ven - producer
Maarten van der Ven (1981) has a bachelor degree in Film- Television and Theatre Studies (Utrecht University) and finished the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in 2009. He did this producing the films Bingo by Timur Ismailov (18 international festival awards) and Flemish Pride by Thijs Schreuder (winner documentary Wildcard Netherlands Film Fund). Already during his studies Maarten started working at Isabella Films, in a later stage in the role of junior producer. He contributed a.o. to Winter in Wartime by Martin Koolhoven ( shortlist Oscars 2010), The Aviatrix of Kazbek by Ineke Smits, Adrienn Pál by Ágnes Kocsis (Un Certain Regard 2010) and Lena by Christophe van Rompaey (Toronto IFF 2011).
VENFILM In 2013 Maarten established VENFILM, a company that wants to work with passionate visual authors , who are eager to tell stories that intend to make a difference for the audience they where created for.
VENFILM produced the documentaries When the war ends by director Thijs Schreuder (Best Debut, Netherlands FF 2011) and A goat for a vote by Jeroen van Velzen (nomination Golden Calf Best Documentary 2014) On the fiction side VENFILM produced the shorts Wednesdays (a.o. Best Dutch Short, Go Short 2012), Balance and P by Aaron Rookus, A day off by Wouter Stoter (Golden Calf nomination NFF 2015), Erkhii Mergen or why the marmot doesn't have a thumb by Thessa Meijer (winner Wildcard and Dioraphte Award) In 2016 the company has released its first feature film, Waterboys by Robert Jan Westdijk (60.000 admissions in NL to date) and the shorts Inconvenient comfort by Adam Fillenz and Copyrette by Marc de Leeuw. This year he produced Thessa Meijer debut, a midlength film The Day My House Fell. On the development side it's working on a feature by Aaron Rookus and a world building development for a series named AFSLUIT DIJK.
Besides producing Maarten van der Ven also works as a line producer for renowned Dutch companies (ao Quality Time, Tiger competition IFFR 2017 and Peterpanman) and was taking part in the Creative Producers Lab at the Binger Filmlab and the Berlinale Talent Campus.
