Showtime
There is so much happening in Showtime now streaming on Disney+Hotstar, sometimes all in a bunch, that the end product about the rangmanch that’s showbiz leaves us with a lot to munch but nothing really to chew on.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatics, Showtime ingests some enticing energy and a vestige of vigour in its vinegary plot. But some of the vital plot points are hard to digest—for instance, a young television film critic makes bold to trash a big budget movie after being bribed and the producer hands over his production house for her to run. Wow!
Aisa sirf cinema mein hota hai. Don’t look for signs of real-life Bollywood personalities here. This is not Jubilee. It is a jubilant saucy tongue-in-cheek peep into showbiz shenanigans. The screenplay does’t dig deep into the dirt. It scratches the surface and gives us no real-life references.

Actor Emraan Hashmi, who is gearing up for his upcoming streaming series ‘Showtime’, feels that he is not fit to be a producer. The actor shared that he has only produced one film so far in his career but there too he was more of a “silent producer” as he was acting in it as well. The film in question is the 2019 film ‘Why Cheat India’. The actor confessed that he is more of a creative person than a finance-related one.
“I don’t think I’m fit to be a producer. I did produce one film, but I was more of a silent producer and was playing the actor also in it, so my producer self took a backseat. I am a more creative person than a business-minded person. I got a commerce degree, but there’s a running joke in my family that I wanted to be in arts,...

Mumbai, Feb 14 (Ians) Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi, who plays a producer in his upcoming webseries ‘Showtime’, has shared one thing that he dislikes about producers in the Hindi film industry.
The actor spoke to producer-director Karan Johar at the show’s trailer launch when KJo asked him about the one thing that he dislikes about his community of producers.
The actor shared that he doesn’t align with thought-process of a producer whose single point focus is the return on investment and not producing quality content.
Emraan Hashmi told KJo: “Barring you, this is for some of the producers I’ve worked with. I think some producers are purely driven by the commerce in films, and I think that’s a bit of thing that doesn’t align with my thinking because they look at film only as a proposal and people, who work in the film, only as commodities.

Mumbai, Oct 16 (Ians) Actress Shweta Tripathi Sharma feels the popular crime drama Mirzapur has broken her girl-next-door image.
"My main reason to do 'Mirzapur' was that I wanted to be seen as a credible actor more than a cute heroine. The world and the character was so far away, which is what drew me to this show. After 'Haramkhor', in which I played a teenager, I became synonymous with these young cutesy parts. But a performer has to be able to do all sorts of things. I consciously made a choice to do stories and films where I am not playing a soft part," she shared.
In "Mirzapur", she plays the role of Golu Gupta. In the upcoming season, she will be seen as a headstrong girl.
"Both 'Laakhon Mein Ek' season 2 and 'Mirzapur' changed how I was seen. These were both...

Actor Pankaj Tripathi was pleasantly surprised to see fans of the popular web series Mirzapur in the UK.
"I was shooting in Glasgow in the UK for '83'. During the shoot, people gathered around the location, and I used to think to myself, maybe it is because they are excited to see an Indian film shoot happening." The crowd, he recalled, consisted of Indians as well as foreigners.
"After wrapping up the shoot when I used to get a chance to meet them, they would only have one question to ask -- 'Kaleen Bhaiya, when will you be back on screen?'" he recalled, referring to his character from the series.
"I was shocked to see the massive fandom of 'Mirzapur' that has made its way to the UK. While I was shooting for other projects too, crew members and people all around still crazed out about 'Mirzapur',...

While most actors have a long wait ahead of them before their next starring role is devoured by audiences, actor Ali Fazal has two major performances coming out: Season 2 of Amazon India Original series “Mirzapur,” streaming Oct. 23, and a feature role in Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptation “Death on the Nile,” set for release Dec. 18, pandemic willing.
Fazal broke out internationally in “Furious 7” (2015), before going on to play Abdul to Judi Dench’s Victoria in Stephen Frears’ “Victoria & Abdul” in 2017 — the same year he was chosen as one of the Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch.
In “Death on the Nile,” Fazal plays a character first portrayed by George Kennedy in the 1978 film adaptation, and by David Soul as part of long-running series “Poirot.” His casting continues the recent trend of color-blind casting where an actor’s ethnicity doesn’t necessarily inform the role. “The culture has shifted,...

Ever since the cinemas were shut during the lockdown, a big wave of content was dropped on all the Ott platforms back to back, in clusters.
With Mirzapur, it will be getting unbiased attention and limelight simply for the inexplicable value and sentiment it holds in the audiences hearts. The gangster drama is by far the most awaited thing of 2020 for all streamers.
Mirzapur season 2, releasing on October 23 will be getting a solo release and that too a festive release. With the Ott platforms taking their audience feet of the ground with every release, Amazon Prime Video gives Mirzapur the special attention it deserves.
Now, what makes it unmissable is that several big ticket films that were set for an online release like Laxmmi Bomb have stayed away from a same day release alongside Mirzapur. Same day releases take away a lot from what is expected and Mirzapur Season 2 is...

Amazon PrimeA brilliant cast of actors led by Pankaj Tripathi is let down by an inconsistent script and indulgent direction.Saraswati DatarThe name 'Mirzapur' traces its etymology back to the Persian words Emir (commander ) and Zad ( lineage) and literally translates to ‘place of a king’. It’s an apt title for Amazon Prime’s third made-in-India original, produced by Excel Media and Entertainment, that tells the story of a powerful overlord trying to rule his fiefdom while consolidating control for his heir apparent. Directed by Karan Anshuman, Mihir Desai, and Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur boasts of an enviable ensemble cast and a story that on paper, has all the ingredients for another small town crime potboiler. It’s an interesting ‘othering’ of small town India as a hotbed of crime and all things immoral and rather perversely exotic, for a largely urban audience watching it on a digital platform.

On day 4 of Mumbai Film Festival, films shortlisted for Dimensions Mumbai competition were shown. These were short films by young filmmakers of the city based on any aspect of life in the metropolis. However, it seems filmmakers can’t resist images of the sea, the promenades, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Haji Ali and other symbols that have typified the city to death. But there were a few films that explored beyond and caught one’s attention:
Bombay Snow by Chinmay Nagesh Dalvi
Bombay Snow is a beautiful film telling the story of migrant laborers in the city. A laborer’s son arrives in Mumbai with his father and is disturbed by the growing distance between his parents. He runs into a sex-worker who is seen applying powder on her face. Bombay snow, it is called. What is it for, asks the boy and the woman answers that the powder can attract men to her.
