If anything has become clearer to me, it’s that the release of Bastion on the PlayStation 4 shows just how far independent video game development has come over the past few years. When it originally released back in 2011, Bastion was one of the few indie games that was able to make any headway on the Xbox Live Arcade, mostly in part due to its heavy promotion on the Summer of Arcade promotion. Nowadays, indie games have a much easier time getting a release on consoles, with Sony in particular embracing the independent game community with open arms.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that when it was announced that Bastion would be re-released, I was probably more enthused than your average gamer. You see, like Braid and Journey, Bastion is one of the (many) indie titles that took me by surprise, and subsequently, kept me coming back for years to come.

Alien: Isolation features heavily in the nominees for this year's BAFTA Games Awards. Here's the full list...
In March, BAFTA turns its gaze on the videogames industry for its annual Games Awards. Among the nominees, some of the biggest games of last year feature heavily - including Far Cry 4 and Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor - but what's most interesting about the list is its sheer variety.
Big-budget games like Alien: Isolation dominates with six nominations - and deservedly so, in the case of its sound and game design - but it's joined by a range of less hyped titles, including Lumino City, Valiant Hearts and Monument Valley. It's particularly pleasing to see the beautifully-wrought platformer Never Alone get some deserved attention.
The BAFTA Games Awards ceremony will take place on the 11th March with Rufus Hound doing the introductions. While we wouldn't be surprised if some of the big...

Supergiant Games has announced that Transistor, the spiritual successor to 2011’s critically lauded Bastion, will launch across PS4 and PC on May 20th.
Taking to the game’s official webpage, the studio confirmed the title’s release all the while inviting fans to the game’s booth at Pax East to test out a preview build of Transistor a few weeks ahead of schedule. At this time, Supergiant reaffirmed that there aren’t any preorder options right now, however, the studio is said to be looking into the possibility:
“Not at this time, though we’re looking into it,” said Greg Kasavin, the game’s writer.
For the game, players will assume the role of Red, a mysterious young woman who comes across a powerful, neon-blue sword called, you guessed it, Transistor. Adopting the familiar isometric viewpoint from Bastion, Supergiant’s follow-up title takes place in the futuristic metropolis of Cloudbank,...

Supergiant Games used Warner Bros.' help to publish "Bastion," but they may be in a position to go indie with Transistor, their recently-announced sci-fi followup. "We don't have deals with anyone," lead designer Amir Rao told Joystiq during Pax East this weekend. "This is the first time anybody has seen the game. It's really way too early for us to say if we'll have a publisher or what platforms it will be on."
"Bastion" sold 1.7 million units across all platforms, including iOS and the Google Chrome store, and Rao suggested that it's given Supergiant enough cushion to start considering self-publishing the game. Most of "Bastion"'s sales came on Steam, though, which makes it a likely candidate to see an eventual "Transistor" release, whether Supergiant decide to self-publish or not.
In other news, YouTube broadcaster TotalBiscuit was kind enough to record about 15 minutes of the game,...

A demo for the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Resonance, has been released on publisher Wadjet Eye Games' website.
The first commercial release from indie developer Vince Twelve, Resonance, is a sci-fi thriller about four characters racing to uncover a dead scientist's secret vault before what he was working on can fall into the wrong hands. While Resonance resembles a traditional point-and-click adventure, it seeks to put a new spin on the genre with its "long-term and short-term memory systems," wherein each of the four playable characters can collect memories that will influence their conversation and puzzle-solving options. Bastion narrator Logan Cunningham will also have a leading role.
After being in development for five years, Resonance will be released for PC on June 19th, 2012. It's currently available for pre-order at Wadjet Eye Games and Gog.com. Digital pre-orders will be 10% off, making the game $8.99 rather than $9.99, and come with desktop wallpapers,...
