His title, Viscount Linley of Nymans in the County of Sussex, was created in 1961 by Queen Elizabeth II for Linley's father. Upon the death of his father, Linley assumed his father's title, Earl of Snowdon.
Since the passing of his mother, Princess Margaret in 2002, he is the highest-ranking member in the British royal line of succession, who is --not a direct descendant of his aunt, Queen Elizabeth II.
The first syllable of his title is pronounced "Vy" (rhymes with "High").
