Exclusive: HanWay Films has closed a Germany & Austria pre-sale on Berlinale competition title La Cocina with SquareOne Entertainment.
From Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios (A Cop Movie), and starring two-time Oscar nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl with Dragon Tattoo) and Mexican star Raúl Briones (A Cop Movie), the love story is set over one day in a Times Square kitchen.
The deal was negotiated by SquareOne Entertainment‘s Head of Acquisitions Thomas Sierk with Vinh-Minh Nguyen and CEO Al Munteanu, and Nicole Mackey, Head of Sales at HanWay Films.
Fifth Season has co-financed the film and is co-representing North America with WME.

Former PalmStar Media executives Ankur Rungta and Vishal Rungta have announced their new Los Angeles and New York-based production company.
Nickel City Pictures will focus on developing and producing commercial film and television content across all genres and has set a target of two to three films in 2017.
The founders have closed an exclusive development partnership with Germany’s Telepool that will give Nickel City access to “significant capital” and access to Telepool’s European distribution platform as well as strategic insight on international markets.
Telepool head of acquisitions and sales Thomas Sierk and CEO Tobias Weymar will run point on the relationship from their side and the parties are working on an initial slate of four projects.

Cannes -- Yoko Higuchi-Zitzmann is stepping down as head of theatrical operations at Telepool after less than six months on the job.
Higuchi-Zitzmann, formerly head of acquisitions at Constantin Film, joined Telepool in January. She said she plans to take a break from the business to take care of her son, who was born last year.
Anja Uecker and Thomas Sierk will take over for Higuchi-Zitzmann, jointly running Telepool's German sales operations.
In another executive shuffle, Irina Ignatiew, currently head of international TV distribution, will add international theatrical sales to her duties in the newly created position of world sales head. She will work with program acquisitions chief Amelie von Kienlin.
