Roy Horan III, the U.S.-born actor and film executive whose martial arts career flourished in Hong Kong’s Golden Era, has died. The father of Hong Kong-based actor Celina Jade, Horan was 71.
Horan (also known as “Sandy” and sometimes credited as Roy Haron) died on Oct. 12 after hiking and meditating in the hills near Los Angeles. A memorial ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
After graduation from the University of Rhode Island, Horan began his career as a martial arts student of renowned Korean taekwondo master and popular Hong Kong movie super-villain Hwang Jang-Lee (aka “lord of the super kickers”). He emigrated initially to Taiwan and later to Hong Kong.
In 1975, with Hwang’s help, he broke into Hong Kong film acting with roles in “Bruce Lee’s Deadly Kung Fu” (1977), “Snuff Bottle Connection” (1977) and “The Ring of Death” (1980).

Are you a fan of Chinese films? If so, you are probably familiar with the country’s notorious blockbusters. The Chinese film industry reportedly grossed $12.8 billion in 2018, compared to the $60.1 billion reported by the global movie industry. Like the US film industry, the China film industry took a big hit from the Covid-19 pandemic. The country was forced to close around 2,300 land-based cinemas in response to the Covid-19 shutdown. This is not to mention, the country also shut down film production to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Chinese officials have called for the reopening of land-based cinemas across the country. The country’s film market is expected to fully recover, but no one really knows how long it will take. Ricky Gervais, pop star Mýa, actors Dame Judi Dench, Olivia Newton-John and Tzi Ma, and renowned conservationist Dame Jane Goodall have come together to record an impassioned video calling for a reset of humanity’s relationship with nature in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis and its zoonotic origins. However it’s two baby bears who have stolen the spotlight.
In mid-July, as the celebrities recorded their video messages, Animals Asia rescued two three-month-old moon bear cubs that had been illegally trapped and put on sale on the black market, and are now taking care of them at the Ngo’s sanctuary in Tam Dao, Vietnam.

“If this crisis has taught us anything, it’s the power of leaving nature alone – and that The Only Cure is Kindness”, said British comedian Ricky Gervais.

The Asian Stars: Up Next, showcased by the International Film Festival & Awards Macao and Variety, recognize and promote Asian on-screen talent – not necessarily young, but youngish – who we believe have the skills to become something much bigger in the entertainment industry.
Some of the talents selected are already established, well-known, and at the top of their game in their home territories. But that’s not the point. What these awards seek is to help Asia’s talent cross borders onto an international or global stage. That’s a question of ambition, and hard work to come.
In 2017 the talent selection included Celina Jade, Ludi Lin, Rajkummar Rao, Shioli Kutsuna, Piolo Pascual, And Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying, better known as the star of “Bad Genius,” while Xana Tang (New Zealand), Ann Curtis (The Philippines), Zheng Kai (China), Zaira Wasim (India) and Iqbaal Ramadhan (Indonesia) represented the 2018 crop.

An action fan's dream of stars Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa, and Tiger Chen's combined forces is wasted on the forgettable Triple Threat.
Before sitting down to watch a movie like Triple Threat, the new adrenaline-filled action movie that brings together three of the genre’s biggest Asian stars, you have to ask yourself what you want out of a movie like this. If you’re looking for an intriguing plot, deep characters, or striking dialogue, then maybe you should save yourself the stream. But if you’re after memorable set-pieces, dizzying fights, and shoot ‘em up thrills… well, you still may want to precede with caution.

Watch an exclusive trailer for Triple Threat, a new martial arts movie that puts Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Scott Adkins onscreen together.
Forget The Expendables. The team you want to be on is the one in which Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Scott Adkins, and more are throwing high-flying fisticuffs. That is certainly the very amusing appeal of Triple Threat, a new VOD and limited release cinematic event that brings some of 21st century cinema’s best martial artists together for an action movie spectacle.
The film, which is directed by Jesse V. Johnson (a former stuntman on films like Thor and The Amazing Spider-Man) is about a group of mercenaries going head to head with a group of assassins. May the best roundhouse kick win. The synopsis is below:

Under the pact, Boilermaker and Arclight will develop and produce a minimum of four films over the course of five years. The first project to come out of the partnership will be based on the female-fueled sci-fi novel, Isan: International Sensory Assassin Network, written by Mary Ting.
The deal was brokered by Alan Brown, who will executive produce along with Italia Gandolfo of Vesuvian Media Group, with whom Boilermaker has signed a first-look. Milito, Conserva and Gary Hamilton of Arclight will serve as producers.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Gary and Arclight Films who have a proven track-record of making captivating movies. The story and content of Isan is compelling with its dystopian setting where truth struggles to be heard and women kick ass. We’re looking forward to...

Celina Jade, the Hong Kong-based actress who emerged as the biggest on-screen discovery of smash hit “Wolf Warrior II,” is set to appear in upcoming mainland Chinese picture “Perfect Blue.”
The film is directed by Cao Baoping, who previously made “The Tale of Love and Death” and is noted as one of China’s foremost crime film exponents. “Perfect Blue,” which wrapped earlier this week, veers closer towards fantasy in a campus-set drama. The picture stars China’s leading actress, Fan Bingbing.
Jade was last year named by Variety and the International Film Festival and Awards Macao as one of Asia’s seven leading talents to watch. A trilingual performer, with martial arts and singing qualifications, she has been inundated with job offers in China and abroad. Movies now in post-production include the lead role in Mahua Funaga’s “Hello Mrs. Money” and pan-Asian action film “Triple Threat,” opposite martial...

With a career that has taken her all over the globe, Celina Jade will be at Cannes this year, announcing an upcoming movie project and serving as ambassador to the new China-Euro Women in Film Festival. When director Wu Jing asked Jade to star in the 2008 “Legendary Assassin,” she professed to be unqualified but acquiesced. The film was a hit and launched her career. After starring on The CW’s “Arrow,” she reunited with Wu for 2017’s “Wolf Warrior 2,” which scored $870 million at the box office.
What attracted you to “Wolf Warrior 2?”
I’ve been with my manager for almost 10 years and very early on I said: “If Wu Jing ever calls me to be involved in one of his projects, I’m there.” I’m grateful to him for my entire career. Wu Jing called me up one day about the sequel, asking: “Can you fly tonight to be my leading lady?...

After the enormous success of part one, director/star Wu Jing decided to follow-up his jingoistic, military-heavy action film with yet another round of bigger, bolder and louder action in this sequel. Employing many of the same themes as the original, yet enhancing the spectacular action attributes from it’s lead star, ‘Wolf Warrior 2,’ or under its original name ‘Zhan lang II,’ emerges as one of the most purely enjoyable old-school action movie throwbacks in the genre.

The cast includes Celina Jade, Gang Wu, Hans Zhang, Qian Yu, Nan Yu, Shanshan Chunyu, and Haifeng Ding. Celina Jade is a Chinese-American actress, singer, and songwriter who is capable of speaking fluent English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that she has shown up in a wide range of movies and TV shows aimed at either the Chinese market, the American market, or sometimes both. In more recent times, it is interesting to note that she has signed up to be represented by Creative Artists Agency LLC in the city of Los Angeles, which could see her showing up in more media projects aimed at an English-speaking audience. "We find them, we kill them, no messin' about." Well Go USA has debuted a brief teaser trailer for the new action film Triple Threat, from stuntman-turned-director Jesse V. Not that the plot matters much with this cast, but it's about a team of mercenaries who must take on a group of professional assassins and stop them before they kill an important woman. Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa are two of cinema’s best action stars, but both men have seen a rough few years on screen. Yen had his solid 2011 film, Wu Xia, get lost down the Weinstein Company rabbit hole and then delivered three movies in a row (Special ID, The Monkey King, Iceman) that obscured his fighting talents behind CG, wire work and costume shenanigans. Jaa meanwhile had a very public breakdown while filming 2010’s Ong Bak 3 which left him in the wind (or in the jungle according to reports) before finally returning last year with the terribly underwhelming CG-fest of The Protector 2. Neither man is in his physical prime anymore — although they could obviously still kick our collective asses — but if their latest releases are any indication they have no plans on throwing the towel in any time soon. ———————————————– Skin Trade Two cops on opposite ends of the Earth are brought together to take down...

It’s interesting to watch Green Arrow thrive on television in ways he could only envy in the comics. After being a second string character for much of his career, he seemed to work well first on Smallville, and now on his own series, Arrow. The problem, though, with being a B-lister for decades is that his rogues’ gallery is woefully weak and therefore the show’s producers have to dip into the rest of the DC mythos to fill out his world.
The show’s third season gets underway shortly and Warner Home Entertainment has recently released Arrow: The Complete Second Season in a nice box set. Here, we can review all 23 episodes to see how things have evolved as Oliver Queen goes from vigilante to hero while his allies grow in number.

Quite a lot happened in this episode. Oliver (Stephen Amell) was saved by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) but he was not pleased that Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Diggle (David Ramsey) revealed his secret identity. We also saw a ton of super strength SFX on display thanks to Miracle/ Mirakuru. Cyrus Gold (Graham Shiels) once again put a serious hurting on Oliver but we also saw the drugs' effects on Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett). It will be interesting to see how the flashback stories on the island progress as Shado (Celina Jade) was killed by 'Professor' Ivo (Dylan Neal) but Slade says that whoever was responsible would feel his wrath. The obvious conclusion would be that he will find out that Oliver chose to save Sara (Caity Lotz) and so Slade will blame him but it's never a good idea to assume the obvious on Arrow.

Where does one even start? ‘Arrow’ delivered its best episode to date with ‘Three Ghosts,’ a midseason finale extravaganza that found Oliver Queen dealing with his, well, three ghosts. But that’s not all —by the end of the night two bodies hit the floor, one epic villain was revealed and Barry Allen began his transition into The Flash. Oh, and did I mention that Oliver isn’t wearing that terrible eye makeup anymore? Yeah, this one was a doozy.
The episode was called “Three Ghosts” for a damn good reason. [Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Wednesday's midseason finale of Arrow. Read at your own risk!]
The real big bad of Arrow's second season was finally revealed!
It turns out Sebastian Blood's (Kevin Alejandro) quest to make super soldiers is under the direction of Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett). Sporting his infamous eye patch, Slade was seen in present-day Starling City, telling Brother Blood that he is determined to burn the vigilante's world to the ground. Why does he hate Oliver (Stephen Amell) so much after spending all that time with him on the island? Because, given a choice, Oliver instinctively saved Sara (Caity Lotz) over Shado (Celina Jade) on the island, much to the dismay of Slade, who had harbored feelings for Shado.
But that was the least of the action during Wednesday's midseason finale, which also featured Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) taking one giant leap to becoming the superhero we all know and love. What's next for him and the rest of Team Arrow?...

Barry Allen has finally hit Starling City! The Dec. 4 episode ‘The Scientist’ served as the grand debut for the comic book staple, who was immediately swept off his feet by the charms of one very sexy, bespectacled It girl.
