German distributor and world sales company Kinostar has acquired Polish filmmaker Maria Sadowska’s erotic thriller “Temptation.”
Based on the bestselling novel by Edyta Folwarska, “Temptation” tells the story of young journalist Inez, whose assignment to cover soccer star Maks Wygoda leads her onto a dangerous journey.
“Temptation” was produced by Daniel Markowicz of Warsaw-based Lightcraft, who also produced and directed the recent hit Netflix actioner “Lesson Plan,” and executive producers Paulina Nowak and Anita Dabrowska.
“Maria and Daniel are extremely talented, and we are very happy to start working with Lightcraft on this movie, with hopefully many more to follow,” said Kinostar head Michael Roesch.
Sadowska enjoyed a huge box office hit “Girls to Buy,” which saw the second-biggest 2021 opening in Poland after Daniel Craig’s 007 swan song “No Time to Die.” The film follows a young woman who, desperate to escape her small town, becomes an escort...

Maria Sadowska is to direct “The Day I Met My Superhero,” a feature film for kids and a family audience. Sadowska last film was “The Art of Loving,” a biopic about Polish sexologist Michalina Wisłocka, which was one of Poland’s top five highest grossing films last year. She is also well-known as a singer and a juror on the Polish version of talent show “The Voice.”
“The Day I Met My Superhero” centers on 11-year-old Polish girl Iga, described as “a quite average girl.” She wants to be cast alongside her heroine, Agnes Dopierala, who plays a superhero in a hit TV series. Turkish casting director Harika Uygur [pictured] has won the Locarno Film Festival’s European Casting award for her work on Cannes 2015 hit Mustang.
The Oscar-nominated drama charts the coming-of-age of five carefree girls whose conservative guardians confine them while forced marriages are arranged.
Uygur was one of 16 European casting directors nominated for the award, which was decided on by the 83 members of the International Casting Directors Network (Icdn), which represents casting directors in 24 countries.
“This casting director created an organic family that was totally believable; the match of characters and actresses was perfect,” the Icdn told Screen in a statement.
The inexperienced young actresses in lauded drama Mustang - Elit Iscan, Gunes Nezihe Sensoy, Doga Zeynep Doguslu, Ilayda Akdogan, and Tugba Sunguroglu - were widely praised for their performances.

Co-directors Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Gross’ second feature In Bloom has continued its successful run of winning prizes by picking the Grand Prix at the 4th edition of the Vologda Independent Cinema From European Screens Festival (Voices).
The Georgian-German-French co-production, which premiered at the Berlinale in February and won the main prize at Wiesbaden’s goEast Festival in April, beat competition from such titles as Salvo, A Caretaker’s Tale and Berberian Sound Studio, to convince the International Jury headed by Hungarian film-maker Bela Tarr.
The top prize was even sweeter for Ekvtimishvili as it came on the same day as her birthday.
It was also the birthday of Polish actress Katarzyna Kwiatkowska who received the award for Best Actress for her tour de force performance in Maria Sadowska’s Women’s Day.
Sadowska told ScreenDaily that it was fitting that her lead actress should now receive what was her first prize for this film, since all of...
