YouTube has provided a rare window into its in-house creator partnerships team, which works one-on-one with thousands of top creators to offer production advice as well as guidance in maximizing ads, brand deals, and other monetization prospects.
The team has been in the works for a decade, reports The Wall Street Journal, which turned a spotlight on the relationship between veteran creator Adande ‘Swoozie’ Thorne (7.6 million subscribers) and his manager, Audrey Eatherly. All told, YouTube has 1,000 creator partnerships managers across 45 countries who counsel resident stars, and it’s looking to hire more. Each manager has a portfolio of about 10 to 20 creators, enabling the team to advise about 12,000 creators in total, according to the Journal.
“We’re texting with them at all days, all hours,” Jamie Byrne, YouTube’s senior director of creator partnerships, told the outlet. “We have a close connection.”

Every Halloween, YouTube vet Jesse Wellens has a blockbuster trick up his sleeve -- typically helmed in collaboration with fellow vlogger Casey Neistat.
Last year, for instance, the duo designed real-life versions of the speeder bikes from Star Wars and recreated a chase scene from Return Of The Jedi in the streets of New York City. In 2016, Wellens dressed up as the Silver Surfer with the help of some seriously impressive special effects makeup, and, in 2015, Wellens and Neistat fabricated an Aladdin-style flying carpet.
This year, however, Wellens is going at it solo without Neistat -- though he’s sticking with the theme of harnessing special effects to cruise across city streets, stopping pedestrians in their tracks. In a video posted yesterday, titled Real Halloween Hoverboard Costume and featuring cameos from Steve-o and fellow vlogger Adande 'Swoozie' Thorne, Wellens at first appears to be zooming across the streets of Venice...

YouTube and Sundance Institute have announced an expansion of their multi-year collaboration to support the development of emerging storytellers. New initiatives in 2016 include a curated festival experience and storytelling intensive workshop for YouTube Creators and a joint Sundance Institute | YouTube Lab to discover and support new artists creating episodic content.
“On YouTube, there are no limits to creative freedom and we are committed to actively advancing the work of innovative, risk-taking storytellers worldwide,” said Danielle Tiedt, Chief Marketing Officer, YouTube. “Our extensive collaboration with Sundance Institute furthers our mission to connect with, inspire and support independent creators.”
"The Sundance Institute | YouTube Creators Intensive and New Voices Lab will discover and nurture a new class of visionary independent artists creating episodic content. Together with our broader Episodic Storytelling Initiative, these programs will support the next generation of artists who are shaping the very nature of the form and bringing fresh, original series to audiences,” said Michelle Satter, Founding Director of Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program. .
The YouTube and Sundance Institute 2016 collaboration includes the following five elements:
Sundance Institute | YouTube New Voices Lab
For over thirty years, Sundance Institute has supported and championed many leading independent storytellers through their year-round Labs program. The

[[tmz:video id="0_sk4znd9x"]] President Obama and Meek Mill now have something in common -- they've both dissed Drake. The prez sat down with YouTube star Adande Thorne ... who asked, "If Drake and Kendrick Lamar got in a rap battle, who do you think would win?" Most hip-hop fans might pause, but Bo quickly said Kendrick's his man. Okay, you might think he's gotta go with the American guy who happened to visit the White House recently, right? Or...

Talent agencies have their eyes on digital stars, and the latest creator to benefit from this trend is Adande Thorne. The 26-year-old YouTube content creator, who posts videos under the username Swoozie, has signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Swoozie, who has more than 2.7 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, is best known for his animation-fueled vlogs, in which he explores topics like school, love, and sex. He is also an accomplished gamer who appeared on SyFy's Wcg Ultimate Gamer, a reality show that ran between 2009 and 2010.
When YouTube stars sign with Hollywood talent agencies, it usually signals interest in traditional media projects. That seems to be part of part of Swoozie's plan, too; as THR notes, he is one of the content creators who will appear in Bob Thunder: Digital Assassin, an upcoming feature film.
Other creators who have recently signed with CAA include Kian Lawley,...
