Parker Finn’s Smile, an adaptation of his own short film Laura Hasn’t Slept, will expand its world of horror next year with Smile 2. Deadline reports that Naomi Scott has been set to star in Paramount Pictures’ untitled sequel.
Smile 2 will hit theaters on October 18, 2024.
Plot details, of course, are under wraps at this time. In the first film, “After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.”
While we can expect the mysterious affliction haunting Rose in Smile will return, the bigger question now is whether Kyle Gallner will return.

Paramount Pictures has renewed a first-look deal with Todd Garner. The head of Broken Road Productions first signed a production pact with the studio in 2018.
Their only film since that time for Paramount has been “Playing With Fire,” a family-friendly Paramount Players release about a handful of macho firefighters having to look after two stranded kids amid a wildfire. The Jon Cena-led release earned $69.4 million worldwide on a $29 million budget. The company is in active development on a Rebel Wilson-starring tennis comedy titled “Double Fault.”
Among other recent projects not specifically with Paramount were New Line’s “Mortal Kombat” reboot and the direct-to-Hulu comedy “Vacation Friends,” both of which have spawned in-development sequels. Ganrer’s production track record goes back at least as far as Vin Diesel’s first “xXx” installment in the summer of 2022. That entry spawned an Ice Cube-led follow-up in 2005 and the 2017 global smash “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage...

Last fall, Paramount Pictures found itself with a huge horror hit in the form of "Smile." The film, from director Parker Finn, made over $217 million at the worldwide box office, and it cost right around $17 million to make. That means a sequel was pretty much a foregone conclusion, but Paramount has yet to make any official announcement about a follow-up. However, we finally have word that a "Smile" sequel appears to be in the works.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that Parker Finn has struck a new first look deal at Paramount, where the filmmaker will write, produce, and direct new horror movies that the studio will get a first crack at. One of the priorities under that new deal is to get a "Smile" sequel off the ground, though there's no indication as to exactly how quickly it will come together.

Warner Bros is pressing ahead with The Twilight Zone film, and a new writer has been hired...
Warner Bros. is unlocking the door with the key of imagination to the new The Twilight Zone movie. The studio announced that Christine Lavaf is on board to write the screenplay for the film.
Lavaf was one of the writers for Godzilla 2. She was an assistant to the showrunner on Fringe. Furthermore, last year she sold three original spec pilots including Netflix’s science fiction drama I’Human.
Warner Bros has been working on the new movie version of The Twilight Zone since 2009. Rand Ravich, Joby Harold, Anthony Peckham and Eli Coleite - who wrote episodes of the TV shows The River, Heroes and Crossing Jordan as well as The End - have all had a shot at writing the script. In 2013 it was announced that Joseph Kosinski, who directed Oblivion, would helm the film.
The first film version of Twilight Zone came out in 1983. It had four segments, each with a different director. The new movie will follow just one story that has various elements of The Twilight Zone universe.
The Twilight Zone was originally created and hosted by Rod Serling, who also created Night Gallery and wrote the screenplay for the classic fight film Requiem For A Heavyweight. The series ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Serling wrote or co-wrote 92 of the 156 episodes that aired and delivered the iconic opening and closing monologues.
The Twilight Zone movie is in the hands of Leonardo DiCaprio’s production house, Appian Way, along with his partner Jennifer Davisson and Michael Ireland. Sarah Schechter is overseeing the project for the studio.

If confirmed then this is a real bummer for Twilight Zone fans. Variety's Jeff Kroll just posted the following on Twitter... "Due to scheduling conflicts, looks like Matt Reeves will not be helming WB's Twilight Zone pic."
At one point or another Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuaron, Michael Bay and Rupert Wyatt were all originally on that short list to helm the flick so don't be surprised if one of them steps in.
Unlike the 1983 feature that had four separate storylines, this film will have one story that features elements from the "Twilight Zone" universe made popular by Rod Serling's classic TV series. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland will produce for Appian Way.

Variety reports that the All You Need is Kill screenwriter will perform a rewrite on the television adaptation, previously scripted by Jason Rothenberg and then rewritten by Anthony Peckham. Unlike the previous anthology feature that was released in 1983, the new film will incorporate multiple story elements from classic episodes of the 60's series into a single narrative. Warner Bros. Pictures and Appian Way are developing the film with Matt Reeves ( Cloverfield , Let Me In ) attached to direct. Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce with Michael Ireland, while Matt Cherniss will executive produce.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has just acquired Live By Night, the new Dennis Lehane novel, as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. The film will be produced by his Appian Way Productions, which is working on several high profile Warner projects, including the Matt Reeves-directed The Twilight Zone, and Akira. They are also developing Satori, the bestseller by Savages author Don Winslow as a star vehicle for DiCaprio, with a script being written by Shane Salerno and Winslow. The novel uses some of the characters from Lehane’s sprawling period novel The Given Day and brings them into Prohibition. The Given Day, itself a wonderful novel, was originally optioned by Sam Raimi but that lapsed. This is the second installment of a trilogy that Lehane is writing, so Warner Bros controls all the material. DiCaprio and his partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce and Appian’s Michael Ireland brought in the book.

Movie scripts going through the rewriting process is just a part of the Hollywood life. And that is just what Warner Bros. is doing for the new Twilight Zone movie. While Jason Rothenberg did write the initial draft, the studio is in talks to bring in Tony Peckham to polish the script for The Twilight Zone. You might be familiar with Peckham’s name as he was the one who wrote scripts for two Warner Bros. films: Sherlock Holmes and Invictus. But he also wrote the script for Don’t Say a Word. The Matt Reeves-directed Twilight Zone movie won’t be like its predecessor where John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, and George Miller helmed chapters, instead the it will be one “big science fiction action movie.” Still Peckham could make some changes to that, so who knows how The Twilight Zone movie could be envisioned.

Working from the efforts of Jason Rothenberg and Rand Ravich, Sherlock Holmes and Invictus scribe Anthony Peckham will do a rewrite on the current draft of the upcoming Twilight Zone movie, as Variety reports. The Matt Reeves-directed adaptation of Rod Serling‘s classic sci-fi show has been moving along quietly since the helmer signed on for Warner Bros. and Appian Way — the latter of which has Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran, and Michael Ireland producing — making this the first substantial public move in a month and a half.

Based on the classic Rod Serling television series, The Twilight Zone, an impending motion picture adaptation from Warner Bros., drew interest from a number of top directors. Now, the WB has announced that they have chosen Matt Reeves to direct the film.
While the last Twilight Zone movie (from 1983) was an anthology with different directors, this new version is intended to be one big sci-fi action story whose main link to the TV series is its creepy tone.
Reeves knows creepy; he previously directed Cloverfield and Let Me In, a well-received adaptation of the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. Reeves will be directing The Twilight Zone from a script by Jason Rothenberg, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland serving as producers.

Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, has been hired by Warner Brothers to direct the new Twilight Zone movie. It was previously thought that this incarnation of The Twilight Zone would be directed by a collection of directors (Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron, Rupert Wyatt and David Yates) much like the previous Twilight Zone movie. Jason Rothenberg penned the script.

I finally got the chance to sit down with Amanda Seyfried. She's an astute young actress who's been picking the right roles. She is definitely picture-perfect as Red Riding Hood. She has an ethereal quality that makes her look transcend time and place.
And she's a bit shy. And she had trepidations about taking the lead role in this Leonardo DiCaprio-produced film.
In this interview, we talked about:
*** Why she chose to wear the red riding hood
*** Why did she have second thoughts about accepting the role
*** How does she pick her roles?
*** Why she's saying that director Catherine Hardwicke was proud to say she got Rob (Pattinson) and Kristen (Stewart) together
*** In the film, she must choose between Shiloh Fernandez and Max Irons. Who will she choose in real life?
Have Fun!

Irons is the son of Jeremy, Irons, of course, and in the beginning of our interview, I jokingly told him that I ditched his father for him! I was scheduled to interview his father via satellite for his upcoming film, "The Last Lions," but had to change my schedule for "Red Riding Hood!"
In this interview, we talked about:
*** What attracted them to making the movie?
*** Was the journey all worth it?
*** Why you have to see "Red Riding Hood" right now!
Have Fun!

Here's more info on "Red Riding Hood" from Yahoo:
A Gothic imagining of the classic fairy tale in which a young woman is confronted by a werewolf, this time with a teenage love triangle at its center.

I enjoyed meeting Catherine Hardwicke, the female director who could open a blockbuster! That title, of course, came from her $69.6 million opening for "Twilight."
Now, she's back with a brand new film, "Red Riding Hood!" And I think you will enjoy it!
In this interview, we talked about:
*** Why she decided to infuse new blood to the fairy tale?
*** How did she pick her stars? Shiloh Fernandez was one of the contenders for the Edward Cullen role which eventually went to Rob Pattinson.
*** The sexual awakening and teenage alienation themes in her films, from "Thirteen" to "Twilight."
Have Fun!
