At one point in time, one of Earl’s mistresses threatened to out their affair publicly, causing celebrity athlete Woods to hush up the affair with a hefty cash payment. Drawing a wide array of responses from viewers, Nike has unleashed a brand new Tiger Woods ad just ahead of the scandal-plagued golfers return to the tour at the Masters today (April 8).
The black and white spot finds Woods staring into the camera with the voice of his late father, Earl Woods, commenting in the background.
During the Nike spot, Earl can be heard asking, "I want to find out what your thinking was; I want to find out what you feelings are. Did you learn anything?"
Hoping to gain attention through the world's #1 golfer following his affair woes, Nike happens to be one of the few major sponsors not to drop Tiger from their marketing strategy.

The controversy continues for Tiger Woods, with a new ad unveiled on Wednesday that appears to be an eerie scolding from the grave from his late father, Earl. During the 30-second Nike ad, Earl Woods says, "I want to find out what your thinking was, I want to find out what your feelings are, and did you learn anything," as the camera moves closer toward a silent, somber Tiger, wearing a Nike cap. The spot is in black-and-white. According to officials from Nike, one of the few sponsors that did not abandon Woods following his infidelity scandal, the ad will...

Here's one we didn't see coming: The first Nike ad to feature Tiger Woods since his post-scandal return to golf aired tonight during the Masters. And it features the voice of Woods' father. His dead father.
[youtube 5NTRvlrP2NU]
The ad was created by longtime Nike collaborator Wieden + Kennedy. It was shot on the golf course in Woods' Windermere, Florida neighborhood. And we're pretty sure the only direction given to Woods was this: "Look sad. Look really, really sad." In case you can't hear exactly what Earl Woods, who died in 2006, is saying, it's this:
"Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything?"
Nike was the only brand to stand firmly by Woods after his admitted infidelities and a stint in rehab had everyone from Gatorade to...

The tarnished sports icon is featured in a new Nike television commercial launched Thursday (April 8) entitled "Earl and Tiger." In the black-and-white ad, Tiger Woods is seen solemnly facing the camera. As the shot slowly zooms in on his face, a voice-over of Woods' late father, Earl Woods, is heard saying, "Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything?''
Rumors of Tiger Woods' extra-marital affairs first surfaced in November of last year shortly after his car accident. Tiger Woods subsequently entered an in-patient treatment facility for sex addiction.

Tiger Woods has filmed a new TV ad featuring the voice of his late father Earl, who questions the golf superstar about taking responsibility for his actions.
The edgy black-and-white clip, which first aired in the U.S. on Wednesday, is the first commercial Woods has recorded with sponsors Nike since his marriage to wife Elin was rocked by reports of his infidelity.
Earl, who coached the sports ace at the start of his golf career, can be heard speaking to his son as the camera zooms in on Tiger, who looks solemnly into the camera but says nothing.
He asks him, "I want to find out what your thinking was, I want to find out what your feelings are and did you learn anything?"
The commercial's release came on the eve of Woods' return to competitive golf in the Masters on Thursday.

Tiger Woods' return to being a spokesman for Nike didn't involve any actual speaking on his part.
Instead, the golfer stared somberly at the camera as a voice from the past spoke in voiceover.
"Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion," says the voice belonging to Earl Woods, Tiger's father who died in 2006 of a heart attack. "I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. Did you learn anything?"
Shot in black and white, the brief ad then ended with the image of the Nike swoosh.
The commercial debuted on Espn and The Golf Channel Wednesday (April 7).
Does the sober tone of the ad hit the right note? Or is it a sermon that doesn't ring true considering Tiger's situation?

Nice to see Tiger Woods is keeping things classy as he tries to make his way back into the game. The recently disgraced golf great—who's been struggling to regain the public's trust despite a seemingly unending sex scandal—appears in a new Nike ad, in which Woods looks remorsefully into the camera as his father Earl Woods lectures him on his recent behavior. Earl Woods, it's worth noting, died in 2006. We have no idea why anyone, anywhere, would possibly think this is a good idea, though it should make for an interesting follow-up commercial, where Tiger stares into the camera again...

Sports psychologist Dr. Gregg Steinberg says now that Tiger Woods is cleaning up his act, he can finally focus on his golf game instead of tail-chasing game
Once Tiger Woods gets through his highly anticipated press conference Feb. 19 – his first public appearance since news of his cheating scandal broke in November – he’ll have to focus on another pressing matter: putting his professional life back together. "Vanity Fair" has a series of Annie Leibovitz photographs of Tiger Woods pre-scandal and is running them in the Feb. 2010 issue alongside an article about Woods' fall from grace.
"Friday Night Light" author Buzz Bissinger pens the article "Tiger in the Rough," in which he examines the Tiger scandal. Bissinger calls it "one of the greatest recorded drops in popularity of any nonpolitical figure."
That might actually be an understatement, as sponsor after sponsor has distanced themselves from Tiger Woods.
Bissinger also refers to other athlete sex scandals (David Beckham, Kobe Bryant) that hardly surprised the public, but that the Woods scandal was particularly shocking because Tiger has always been "a charming nonperson."
The piece is an interesting read for sure, but one thing that really strikes us is the Travis Bickle-esque cover. That certainly isn't the Tiger Woods of the past and, as the photos were taken pre-scandal, maybe a little prescient?...
