1.) Picture a stage converted into a white cube where multiple brief scenes occur: the theatrically appropriate physical form to capture a digital world;
2.) then throw in sounds, bits of music, birds, maybe gulls, and these punctuate the black-outs between scenes--distracting the audience from quick prop and costume changes; all very electronic, all very now;
3.) "tell me a big secret" one character asks, but all of the play is big and small secrets, some of which one might rather not have learned; but that's our present day world of "information";
4.) and our present day world of "Love" can be surprising too: "Mum's not your mother". Really? No, your sister is.
5.) So many scenes, so many characters, all so brief, and yet on the mark and touching, even, but ultimately like television sound bites or 30 second ads--they give you a rush, but like a sugar high, it doesn't last.
6.) Churchill is on to the present moment,...

I can't be the only person who thinks the X Factor's doubled-up 'super-size' auditions aren't working.
Everything you need from an X Factor audition comes on Saturday night. Emotional stories, weeping judges, silly acts, powerful performances. And then along comes Sunday. With the same acts. And the same stories.
Even when there is a twist in the tale, such as likeable bus driver James Macdonald getting the boot on Sunday night, it feels slightly odd and hypocritical of the judges.
On Saturday, a tearful James was praised by Gary Barlow for understanding how important an opportunity The X Factor can be. On Sunday, he was booted out by Gary Barlow for lacking star power and not cutting the mustard. What changed?
Thankfully, The X Factor judges didn't offer him the Bullseye consolation prize of a Bfh (bus fare home). That would have just been rubbing it in.

Texas Chainsaw
Evil Wears Many Faces
Revving Up Monday 27Th May
Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw, the Us #1 box office hit, picks up directly where the terrifying 1974 movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ended, with the repercussions of Leatherface’s shocking slayings. In the aftermath of Tobe Hooper’s classic, the townspeople take dramatic action against the Sawyer family. They had long suspected that the family was responsible for several mysterious disappearances and had their suspicions confirmed when a young woman escaped the house. Word of the murders quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.
Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking...

Young writers James Graham and Nick Payne vie with Caryl Churchill, while actor Hattie Morahan goes up against Cate Blanchett as Young Vic gains five nominations
Young playwrights James Graham and Nick Payne will compete with the legendary Caryl Churchill for best new play at this year's Evening Standard theatre awards.
Churchill, who won her first Evening Standard award 25 years ago for Serious Money, is shortlisted for Love and Information at the Royal Court, London, while Graham, 30, is up for political thriller This House, and Payne, 28, Constellations, currently previewing in the West End.
By a strange quirk of fate, Graham and Payne are younger than two of the nominees for the Charles Wintour most promising playwright award: actor Lolita Chakrabarti, 43, and screenwriter John Hodge, 47, both of whom saw their first plays staged this year in Red Velvet and Collaborators respectively. That category is completed by Tom Wells, author of The Kitchen Sink.

We’ve had a general idea of what to expect from the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, but following yesterday’s poster release, we now have new details from the official plot synopsis. You’ll also notice that the official title is now Texas Chainsaw 3D.
“Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last...

Cotter Smith has been challenged before. With more than a dozen Off-Broadway plays under his belt and major television and film experience, the multi-talented actor definitely knows how to captivate an audience. However, when "Cock" starts performances on Tuesday, he'll have to do it empty-handed.“The concept is no props and no set,” says Smith. “The actual image for the piece is an arena. It’s a small circular stage with the audience around us, similar to a cockfight.”The metaphor is apt. “Cock” showcases the verbal sparrings of an indecisive bisexual (Cory Michael Smith), his two lovers (Jason Butler Harner and Amanda Quid), and an intrusive father (Cotter Smith). Director James MacDonald, who also directed the 2009 West End performance, believes that minimalism demands an actor-specific approach.“In a play where there is nothing but four actors it really depends on who they are,” he says.“He’s such an intelligent and interesting person,...

The Vampire Diaries is preparing another flashback-filled episode, but we won't be traveling to past centuries this time.
The May 10 season finale will take us back only few years, introducing us to Elena Gilbert's never-before-seen parents.
"One of the things we want to do in the finale is explore a time for Elena when life was simpler," executive producer Julie Plec tells TV Guide, which first reported the casting news and posted the image below.
"Elena had parents and no vampires in her life."
As reported earlier, Sara Canning reprises her role as Elena's aunt Jenna in the episode, which includes some happy scenes, but also the accident in which the family car veered off a bridge, killing Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert.
Elena's parents will be played by James MacDonald and Erin Beute:
