Contains spoilers for Queenpins
It’s early doors in 2024 and a movie about a couple of women who have no money using coupons to defraud big companies is no.1 on Netflix UK. It figures.
Written and directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, Queenpins was originally released in 2021 to Showtime and Paramount+ but now it has appeared on Netflix UK it seems to have captured a new audience.
The movie stars Kristen Bell, reunited with her The Good Place co-star Kirby Howell-Baptiste as skint friends who come up with a scheme to sell stolen coupons over the internet at a very cut down price. The women make millions but, not being criminal masterminds, they get caught and prosecuted, with Bell’s Connie serving jail time, and Howell-Baptiste’s JoJo getting a more lenient non-custodial sentence.
The film is fiction but it is inspired by a real case that went down...

Much has changed in the nearly three years between “Little America” seasons. Back in January 2020, when the half-hour episodic anthology first debuted, Apple TV+ was only in its third month of existence. Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, and Lee Eisenberg’s adaptation of true stories featured in Epic Magazine was just the streamer’s eighth series. Sian Heder, an executive producer and co-showrunner, was best known for her years writing on “Orange Is the New Black.” An orange-haired cretin still controlled the White House, and American immigration policy was summed up by the enraging phrase “kids in cages.”
Today, Apple TV+ has expanded from drama, comedy, and family programming into unscripted, animation, and live sports. Its shows and movies have won the highest honors in TV and film, including Heder taking home an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Outside the entertainment sphere, an experienced leader has taken over the lease at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,...

Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly had a specific ambition in mind with their new film, "Queenpins." "What we realized is we wanted to write this love letter to the post office," Pullapilly said. Not only that, but for audiences to leave their comedy about a crime involving counterfeit coupons and write a letter to a loved one. The pure power of letters, as well as the dangerous power of coupons, is the moral of this crime story.
The married filmmaking duo previously directed "Beneath the Harvest Sky." With "Queenpins," they've written and directed their first comedy. It's a change of pace they...

Kristen Bell stars as Connie, an ex-Olympian quivering with restless energy, who lures her neighbor JoJo (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) to join her criminal enterprise. Though their seven figure haul is destined to catch the eye of the authorities, the women see themselves as modern Robin Hoods, and writer-directors Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly (“Beneath the Harvest Sky”) are inclined to agree.
Connie’s idea is simple. She and JoJo convince two married factory workers in Mexico (Ilia Isorelýs Paulino and Francisco J. Rodriguez) to ship them unused sheets of coupons. These they sell online to cash-strapped housewives willing to pay $10 for a $20 value. It’s a victimless crime, Connie believes, and the film’s bright colors and sophomoric needle-drops don’t offer much dissent. When Connie costumes herself in a prim blue dress to win favors from bank officers, the soundtrack plays, yes, “Devil With a Blue Dress.”

In the upcoming comedy “Queenpins,” Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste fancy themselves the “Robin Hood” of coupons.
They’ve discovered that many of the free coupons you get when you file a complaint to a company all come from the same place. So if they steal those coupons and distribute them to people that need them, cha-ching!
“Queenpins” is based on the true story of the biggest coupon counterfeiting scam in American history. The first trailer for the film, released Thursday, shows us the silliness of the crime and the two women getting in way over their head, all while a federal agent and a U.S. Post Office agent (Paul Walter Hauser and Vince Vaughn) team up and take this way too seriously.
The trailer opens with Hauser in an armored car with a Swat team gearing up for a big operation. The agents suspect they’re about to pull off a big drug bust,...

"You know who gets rewarded? People who don't follow the rules." STX Films has debuted the first officail trailer for a comedy called Queenpins, written and directed by filmmakers Aron Gaudet & Gita Pullapilly (of Beneath the Harvest Sky previously). This amusing new crime comedy brings us a story about "pink collar crime", even though the title makes me think it's a remake of the bowling classic Kingpin, or something like that. The film follows a pair of housewives that create a $40 million coupon scam. A suburban homemaker and vlogger hatch an illegal coupon club scheme that scams millions from mega-corporations and delivers deals to legions of fellow coupon clippers. Queenpins features Kristen Bell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, plus Paul Walter Hauser, Joel McHale, Bebe Rexha, and Vince Vaughn as a "postal inspector". This looks a tad cheesy, and a tad ridiculous, but it is based on a true story and it...

“Queenpins,” a comedy starring Kristen Bell, is moving from a theatrical release from STXfilms to a release on Paramount+ and Showtime, a rep for the streamer told TheWrap.
The deal was for the film’s U.S. rights, with STXfilms retaining international distribution. A source said the sale was completed for over $20 million behind a $10 million budget.
Though release plans weren’t immediately clear, STXfilms will still be releasing the film theatrically ahead of its Paramount+ debut.
“Queenpins” is already completed, and the sale of the film mirrors how STXfilms handled the Gerard Butler disaster movie “Greenland” last year at the height of the pandemic. The distributor sold “Greenland” to a streamer for North American release but retained international rights, and it ended up grossing $52 million overseas. The success of that film now has Butler returning for a sequel. STXfilms first picked up the film back in September 2020 from AGC Studios.

Beneath The Harvest Sky
Written and directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly
USA, 2014
Beneath The Harvest Sky tells the story of two Maine teenagers, Dominic (Callan McAuliffe) and Casper (Emory Cohen), who plan to escape their small hometown to start their new lives in Boston. To get money to start anew, Dominic spends his summer harvesting potatoes while Casper gets more involved in his family business of drug smuggling across the Canadian border. Although best friends, their divergent paths attempt to test the core of their friendship.
