In what feels like the longest Droughtlander of them all, Starz revealed Thursday that its hit series Outlander will return with Season 7, Part 2 in November.
Season 7 is an extra-large extended season with 16 episodes split into two parts. The release of Part 2 was delayed about a year due to the writers and actors strikes. To catch up before then, every season, including Season 7, Part 1, is currently available to stream via the Starz app.
Inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international bestsellers, Outlander follows Claire (Caitríona Balfe), a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743. Claire finds her true love was living in the past, dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Few films have changed the landscape of horror like The Blair Witch Project. Purporting to be recovered footage from a doomed documentary, the story follows three filmmakers who venture into the Black Hills of Maryland to investigate the legend of the Blair Witch. They never return. This lean and mean film was cobbled together from hours of footage shot by the actors improvising fictionalized versions of themselves. Directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez made the bold choice to never show the titular monster, elevating the film from a creepy tale set in a haunted woods to one of the most terrifying, profitable, and ambitious horror films of all time. Though her face remains in the shadows, the Blair Witch has become a cultural phenomenon with a legacy that reaches far beyond the real life entities who may have inspired her creation.

Outlander has always been synonymous with anticipation and longing, but no term encapsulates this sentiment more than Droughtlander. While the breaks between seasons can be unbearable for die-hard fans, one of the show’s lead actors, Sam Heughan, has a slightly different take.
In the past, Heughan’s stance on these extended hiatuses has been a bit unconventional. Most fans dread Droughtlander, and Heughan’s opinion on the breaks was unpopular among viewers.
Sam Heughan once said Droughtlander was actually a good thing
Throughout its tenure, Outlander has gained a reputation for lengthy intervals between seasons. To illustrate, the cast and crew finished filming season 4 in July 2018. But they didn’t start production on season five until April the following year.
The break in production resulted in an extra-long Droughtlander between seasons 4 and 5. And fans weren’t exactly thrilled about it.

Jamie and Claire are headed back to Scotland in the second half of Outlander Season 7. But their return to the country where they fell in love won’t go as they expect, executive producer Maril Davis has said.
Jamie and Claire return to Scotland in ‘Outlander’ Season 7
The past several seasons of Outlander have followed Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as they build their life in colonial America. But in the Season 7 Part 1 finale, the couple found themselves on a ship bound for Scotland. They’ve been tasked with returning the body of Jamie’s cousin, General Simon Fraser (Angus Macfadyen), who died at the Second Battle of Saratoga in 1777, to his native land.
In America, the Frasers had been pulled into the Revolutionary War, and the conflict disrupted their earlier plans to sail for Scotland when Jamie was conscripted into the Continental Army. There’s a sense...

Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton in ‘Outlander’ season 7 episode 4 (Photo Credit: Starz)
Starz’s Outlander season seven episode four opens with a short time jump to Lallybroch in 1980. Two years have passed since Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) purchased the property, and the family’s living in a mobile home in the front yard while it’s being repaired. Jemmy and Mandy have reached the fighting siblings stage, and Mandy hits her older brother with a stick. Mandy only grudgingly says she’s sorry.
It’s revealed Bree and Roger won’t let the workers paint over the dining room murals or fix a large spot on the wall. There’s still so much work to be done that the estimate’s jumped up to what Bree describes as an “astronomical” figure. They’re halfway through their money and not even close to having bedrooms at this point.

My prayers at the altar of Dougal MacKenzie, patron saint of bushy eyebrows, have been answered: Starz’s Outlander chose to condense the Great Dismal Swamp part of An Echo in the Bone so greatly, it all fits into a small piece of this week’s episode, thank sweet baby Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ.
You all know I love Diana Gabaldon’s books. I’m usually very happy to meander wherever she wants to take me, and for however many pages she sees fit. But the chunk of her seventh Outlander novel that takes place in the Great Dismal Swamp just feels interminable.

The opening scene of Starz’s Outlander season seven episode three shows a delivery man dropping off a chest with the name Jeremiah Alexander Ian Fraser MacKenzie emblazoned on the lid. We’re left hanging for just a moment as “The Skye Boat Song” plays, and then it’s revealed that the chest has been kept in a bank vault for 200 years.
It’s presented to Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) who, by the way, look terrific in ‘80s attire and new hairstyles. After revealing that Mandy’s doing great, Fiona Graham Buchan (Iona Claire) – who’s happy to have them back – gives them time alone to open the chest. Inside are a musket ball and scores of letters written to Brianna from Jamie and Claire.
The first letter she opens is dated April 1776, and Jamie assures her they’re alive.
