"Temporal Powers" is an excellent play, beautifully acted and directed. When it was over, I wanted to lock myself in a dark room with a full bottle and contemplate the futility of love and life.
But that would only be when the depression lifted.
As they say in Ireland, it is a grand play, and this is as Irish as it gets. Written by the not-well-enough-known Teresa Deevy (1894-1963), this was first staged at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in 1932.
Now it's at the Mint Theater, one of off-Broadway's powerhouses. Steps from the Broadway theaters, the Mint is a world away because it is on the third floor of an old building. Here, a soft Irish fiddle is piped in as the lights go up on the set. The set is the same for the three acts.

Few people will disparage an expectant mother. People are people, good and bad, but there's something majestic, alluring, and graceful about a pregnant female. It's some inexplicable aura that surrounds them, a soft soothing light that alters the mood of anyone they come in contact with. A meaningful moment with one is akin to a divine experience. It's this logic that permeates David Barker's "Daylight." Daniel (Aidan Redmond) and the expecting Irene (Alexandra Meierhans) share a tender, expository moment in their bedroom as the morning light nudges them conscious. With plans to participate in a family member's wedding, Daniel dreads…...

Popping up on the festival circuit last year and earning some strong advance word, the no-budget thriller "Daylight" has lain dormant so long. Thankfully, distributor Cinema Purgatorio recognized its potential and will roll it out to theaters this summer. Favorably compared to the work of Michael Haneke, this psychological thriller follows couple Daniel (Aidan Redmond) and Irene (the very pregnant Alexandra Meierhans) as they pick up a seemingly-innocent hitchhiker (Michael Godere) on their way to a wedding. However there's something a bit more sinister to him, and after he threatens his drivers to pick up his cohort (Ivan Martin), the…...

What is it about horror movie people--why are they so frakking stupid? People who start off seemingly sensible, suddenly lose their minds, forget all the rules and we're left screaming at the screen: "Don't go in there! Don't leave the knife on the counter! Don't open the door! Don't let him/them in!" Where does the common sense go?
Just in case you, dear Pajibans, ever find yourself in a horror movie-like situation, here are some of the hard and fast rules. Live them, learn them, never, ever forget them:
5. Don't let a stranger into your house, especially when he (they) come(s) knocking at night. If someone comes knocking at night, have a weapon nearby when you answer the door. (Me, I'm pretending I'm still asleep.)
4. Don't go camping at deserted campgrounds where legend has it that a killer ran rampant. The same goes for exploring any abandoned or haunted house,...

This Tuesday, March 30th, is the long awaited DVD/Blu-ray release date of Glenn McQuaid's I Sell the Dead, and our trilogy of interviews with its cast and crew continues with the one -- the only -- Angus Scrimm, who portrays the character of Dr. Vernon Quint in the film.
Elaine Lamkin: Thank you for taking time to do this interview with me, Angus. First question – how did you find yourself playing Dr. Quint in I Sell the Dead? What was the attraction? And how would you describe the good doctor, whose exit from the film is both hilarious and well-deserved?
Angus Scrimm: In January, 2008, this ruddy-cheeked Irish fellow with a perpetual twinkle in his eye turned up at the Burbank, California, studio where Larry Fessenden was filming the infamous rant I contributed to Jim McKenney's Automatons DVD "extras." Undeterred by what he saw, he offered me the role of Dr.
