Chips represents something of a burning passion project for Dax Shepard, who initially approached WB with a pitch that took the core concept of the ’70s TV show and slapped on a new lick of paint. The end result is a wildly over-the-top, laugh-out-loud funny, buddy cop movie in the vein of Lethal Weapon or Michael Bay’s Bad Boys, one in which Shepard is joined by Ant-Man‘s Michael Peña.
Together, they form the fiercest duo on the California Highway Patrol, one which spends their days catching criminals – or at the very least, trying to – and generally frolicking around on America’s sun-kissed West Coast. Rounding out the cast list for the hilarious, R-rated romp are Kristen Bell (Dax Shepard’s significant other), Rosa Salazar, Adam Brody, Jessica McNamee, Vida Guerra, Rene Moran and Kelly Richardson.

On paper, it’s easy to compare Warner Bros. and Dax Shepard’s upcoming Chips reboot to the Jump Street series. Both action movies mined inspiration from a pair of dormant TV series and, in their journey to the big screen, tapped two bankable comedy stars to lead the charge.
But rather than Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill starring as the mismatched leading duo, Chips has set Ant-Man‘s Michael Peña to star opposite Dax Shepard. The latter directs from his own screenplay, and after years spent lobbying for a big-screen reboot, it’s almost fitting that Shepard headlines Warner’s buddy-cop comedy as one half of the California Highway Patrol. Indeed from the all-new red band trailer above, you’ll no doubt discover that Chips touts many of the genre’s hallmarks: a bickering odd couple, corruption within the department, along with the inevitable inside job. But perhaps the...

Empire Magazine has elected Logan to be the cover star of its latest issue, that much we know. But over the past few days, the outlet has previewed a whole host of movies headed to theaters in 2017, one of which being Chips, the small-to-big-screen revival hatched by Warner Bros. and Dax Shepard.
Indeed, Chips represents something of a burning passion project for Shepard, who initially approached WB with a pitch that took the core concept of the ’70s TV show and slapped on a new lick of paint. The California Highway Patrol deploys for duty in the wild first trailer for CHiPs, Warner Bros. and director Dax Shepard’s R-rated reboot that takes the classic TV show and slaps on a new lick of paint.
Premiering via tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the sizzle reel allows us to get acquainted with both Jon Baker (Dax Shepard) and Frank ‘Ponch’ Poncherello (Michael Peña), two new recruits to California Highway Patrol (Chp) that have enrolled in La’s police unit for very different reasons. And so begins a mismatched buddy cop comedy wherein the wet-behind-the-ears rookie must join forces with the seasoned veteran, but don’t go in expecting an over-the-top romp in the vein of 22 Jump Street or the upcoming Baywatch reboot. According to Shepard – who wrote, directed and produced Warner’s imminent crime caper – CHiPs is more in line with Bad Boys or Lethal Weapon than its other genre contemporaries.

A new Machinima Web series pushes a cast of minority performers into the spotlight. “Chop Shop” follows the lives of members of two rival car theft gangs as they compete for turf in East Los Angeles. Director Elliott Lester said they wanted to cast performers who could add authenticity to the six-episode drama. In some cases, that meant casting extras and principal actors who were weeks out of prison. “They went from the prison yard to our yard,” said Lester, tongue in cheek. “What’s nice with a show like this is you get to make some discoveries. You’re not seeing the same old faces. Actors who are not in the mix on TV get a chance to step up,” he told reporters ahead of the launch of the show July 18. “This is a show that is hugely ethnically diverse, which is representative of Los Angeles. I would never...
