Musical fans around the world took the news hard this week that In the Heights is being delayed a full 12 months. And stage and screen star Christopher Jackson might be one of them. While he recently told us he understands there are more important things going on in the world at this time, he’s still incredibly excited for fans and newcomers alike to experience the lights up on Washington Heights… especially after being so impressed by the new cast when he visited the In the Heights set to film a scene.
“I may have been on-set, I may have done a little cameo, possibly,” Jackson teased with a laugh while chatting with Den of Geek deputy editor Chris Longo for our baseball-themed interview series Mlb The Show (The Show). The confession came during a virtual interview about Jackson’s time on another Broadway musical, Bronx Bombers, and his love of baseball.

Looney Tunes has had a rather interesting 40 years. When their glory days faded, they started releasing box office films that acted as glorified clip shows. They made crossover/cameo appearances in a Disney movie. They spent a few years acting as torch-passing professors to a crop of teenage knockoffs. Then they did a movie with Michael Jordan that wasn’t very good, but is so weird that it’s considered a beloved cornerstone of the ‘90s. There were a couple of spinoff shows for Taz and Tweety, as well as a whole lot of embarrassing shirts featuring characters wearing baggy pants and backwards caps.
Things got worse when their Brendan Frasier movie failed to scrounge up interest. They became extreme space superheroes, Daffy became a different kind of space superhero, and then they tried some more modern takes on the Looney Tunes concept with mixed results. Though it did teach...

Director Chad Stahelski details the "weird" origins of John Wick: Chapter 3.
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum director Chad Stahelski wasn’t expecting to make a trilogy. In fact, he and his co-director on the first film, Deadpool 2 helmer David Lietch, weren’t sure how people would react to this underground world of assassins.
“At the time, we finished the movie and went, ‘We’re fucked. We’re gonna have to start looking for other jobs,’” Stahelski tells Den of Geek. “We’re never gonna direct again. We killed 80 people over a fucking puppy. We’re screwed."
When John Wick hit theaters in 2014, action movies were in a different place. The Bourne movies were still dominant, the Marvel universe was just starting to build off its oxygen-sucking success from the first Avengers movie, and the marketplace for mid-budget actions movies was starting to shrink. In came Stahelski,...

The open-ended final scene of John Wick 3 could have been way different according to director Chad Stahelski.
This article contains major spoilers for John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum.
Have we seen the last of John Wick? The ending of John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum leaves several story threads open and sets up what could potentially be a John Wick 4.
At the end of John Wick 3, John himself is still alive, and is now in the care/custody of the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), who has also survived the assassination attempt by the High Table. It appears that the Bowery King, who used to sort of work with the High Table, now wants vengeance against the organization. The potential implication is that he and John Wick are going to team up to bring down the High Table once and for all. Meanwhile, John's former mentor Winston (Ian McShane...

Director Chad Stahelski of John Wick 3 details how the film's most talked about scene was executed.
Leaked set photos often drive buzz for a film, but it was taken to another level when photographers captured a shot of Keanu Reeves riding a horse through New York while shooting John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum. That’s the stuff of instant meme fodder. In line with the previous Wick films, Parabellum has its share of memorable set-pieces. Yet the horse scene was on our minds when we sat down with director Chad Stahelski, one of the key masterminds of the snazzy John Wick universe since the beginning, to talk about the third installment of the hit assassin thriller.
The inspiration for the horse scene came from a few places. Stahelski is a big Sergio Leone fan and based the Wick franchise off characters like Clint Eastwood’s Man with...

Olivia Taylor Dudley sheds light on her character's controversial decision at the end of season 3 and what it means for season 4.
The Magicians has shown us the wondrous side of magic, but it’s also shown us that if placed in the wrong hands, it’s extremely dangerous. In The Magicians Season 4, which premieres on January 23rd, magic is rationed off and controlled by The Library. It was a bit of a chess move by Dean Fogg to cut a deal with The Library. It allowed him to re-open Brakebills, but it also puts Fillory in danger while Quentin, Julia, Penny, Margot, Kady, and Josh are powerless in the real world and placed under new identities, and are at risk of being picked off by the Monster, who is inhabiting Eliot’s body.
But what about Alice? She's now in isolation after her complicated history with magic...

We went to Brakebills to learn more about The Magicians Season 4.
It’s the last day of school for The Magicians Season 4.
A group of makeup artists sit in a semi-circle around a monitor and Hale Appleman, who plays Eliot, gives a lengthy goodbye hug to each one. Brittany Curran, who plays Fen, shot her final scene the day prior, and the name on her chair is now covered with pink tape that spells out “Wrapped.” Rick Worthy, the suddenly controversial Dean Fogg, is anything but as he’s walking around the set with a smile and a wine glass filled with candy in his hand. Worthy’s dog Buddy, a burly chocolate lab, trails behind, leisurely wagging his tail and making new friends along the way. Everywhere on set the end of the semester looms large over Brakebills; the bittersweet goodbyes to close friends, the feeling of relief,...

We caught up with Arjun Gupta and Stella Maeve to chat about their character arcs in The Magicians season 4.
There’s no show on TV that knows how to hit a reset button quite like Syfy's The Magicians. The season 3 finale left so many intriguing loose threads that it would take a full costume department working overtime just to tie everything up. Luckily, The Magicians Season 4 starts to answer questions like what’s going on with the authoritarian rule of The Library, and how Quentin will handle his complicated relationship with both magic and Fillory.
It’s not just Quentin who finds himself in a drastically different place to begin the season. The whole gang had their memories wiped in the season 3 finale and were placed back into the world in new, magic-less lives. At this point, Arjun Gupta is used to playing all different variations of Penny.

In an abrupt career change, actor Janet Varney is now a fortune teller in a hilarious new web series on IFC.
There’s a solid chance you want to outright abandon your current job as you read this. Wouldn’t it be freeing to flip your boss off as you walk out the door?
If you’re not there yet, I bet you’ve at least fantasized about pivoting to an entirely new profession. Let’s run off a few reasons why that is unlikely: 1) You’re mediocre to good at what you already do; 2) It’s a brazen and unnecessary risk for most ordinary people with bills to pay; 3) Fantasy is undefeated versus reality, and the fear of failure often keeps people from fully committing to a dream.
None of that self-doubt phases Janet Varney, who trades acting for psychic endeavors in her new IFC web series,...

Cartman spends more time on his phone in an anxiety-inducing episode.
This South Park review contains spoilers.
South Park Season 22 Episode 8
Anxieties tend to run high when your town has rampant gun violence, a vaping addiction, a distrust of its clergymen, racist and unpleasant fecal matter, and a highly destructive ManBearPig on the loose. If I lived in South Park, I’d be putting my head under a box too.
“Buddha Box” begins a familiar plot structure: Cartman learns a new thing, then slyly uses his understanding of said thing to his advantage. Cartman uses a clinical issue, this time his “anxiety,” as an excuse to spend more time on his phone. The episode then introduces a silly product, a cardboard box, to help Cartman shun his mom, friends, and teachers. All things considered, that's pretty innocent for Cartman.
Eventually it gets to a place where all the people of...

Comedy Central confirmed Broad City season 5 and an overall deal for its stars.
Broad City is going out on its own terms. Comedy Central confirmed Broad City season 5 will be the final season of the sitcom. Creators and stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson won’t be leaving the network for greener pastures, however. The comedy duo inked a first-look deal with Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom, meaning we could soon be seeing more projects from Glazer and Jacobson on Viacom-owned networks.
In a post-Jon Stewart world (relax he’s still alive) where Comedy Central has hemorrhaged talent, Broad City has been a saving grace for the network. The show has been a critical darling and a ratings success for most of its run and a star-making vehicle for Glazer and Jacobson.
"Broad City has been our baby and first love for almost 10 years, since...
