Thomas Raney has held the position of principal timpani/percussion with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 1995 after previously holding that position from 1973-1985. He is also the principal timpanist with both the Pasadena Symphony under Jorge Mester and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra under John Mauceri.
During the 70's he performed with Frank Zappa's band "Grand Wazoo" on a European and East Coast tour, and later participated in an experimental 43-piece electronic/acoustical orchestra that performed two concerts at Royce hall.
