“I don’t think I’ve experienced a theater season in New York ever like this one,” noted Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks. “There’s been a range, a breadth, an expansion of possibility that has been truly astonishing to witness. Theater makers have inspired not only with their creativity, but also with their drive and determination to serve audiences with vision and talent. These nominees reflect the promise and greatness inherent in the work of theater folk, and I can’t help but be deeply proud.

Before “Crying in the Club” was the title of a Camila Cabello song, it was Robyn’s entire ethos, if not registered trademark. In the eight years since the Swede released a proper solo album, no one has quite recaptured the combination of b.p.m. and pathos she perfected in the run-up to the turn of the last decade. Now she’s back with “Missing U,” the abbreviated title of which suggests the university-level course in loss and regret it delivers.
Bawling, meet banging! Banging, bawling!
In a rare recent interview, Robyn indicated that she was trying to strip down the sounds on her forthcoming eighth album, which has been due for… well, eight years, as far as fans are concerned. But the only minimalist in “Missing You” is in the percussion – it’s basically the sound of a bass drum being struck steadily for pretty much the entire 4 minutes and 51 seconds.

Katy Perry goes hardcore into the clubs with “Walking on Air,” a dance twirler she released today from her forthcoming album, “Prism,” out Oct. 22. The house track is redolent of ‘90s dance thumpers and is light as cotton candy and just as enjoyable. It will make you long for C + C Music Factory... almost. Klas Ahlund produced the track, which Perry recorded in Stockholm. Perry told Billboard the track was inspired by Ahlund collaborator Robyn, who toured with Perry on her California Dreams tour, and by seeing roller skaters in New York’s Central Park. The track opens with another...

Brothers Joakim and Klas Ahlund, along with Patrik Arve, have been working under the Teddybears moniker since the early ’90s, trying their hand at everything from grinding death metal to kitschy reggae-pop before achieving international dance-floor success with 2006’s Soft Machine. Along the way, Klas produced “Cobrastyle” and many other tracks from the 2005 self-titled breakthrough of dance-floor hero Robyn, and both brothers started a sideline directing television ads. Which is telling: Nothing on Devil’s Music shows the stylistic flair or knack for using escalating rhythms to achieve emotional catharsis that defines Robyn’s best work, but it ...
