"There's something else down here with me." 4Digital Media has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi survival thriller titled Dune Drifter, from genre filmmaker Marc Price. This originally premiered at FrightFest in London earlier this year, and also played at the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. The logo on the poster is obviously trying to connect to Dune (which has since been delayed from its date in December) even though the plot of this has absolutely nothing to do with Dune. After a devastating orbital space battle, the survivor of a crashed star-fighter must navigate the harsh environment of a desolate planet to save herself before her life support expires. Starring Phoebe Sparrow as the sole survivor, Adler, with an indie cast including Daisy Aitkens, Simon Dwyer-Thomas, Alastair Kirton, Richard Corgan, Marcus Shakesheff, and Charlotte Mounter. This looks pretty damn good, and thankfully the trailer doesn't give away too much.

Colin's Marc Price moves on with The Coffin.
The staff at HugAZombie took a much-deserved break over the holidays, which is why we now present to you this week old story.
Welsh director Marc Price, who impressed at Cannes in 2009 with his debut feature Colin, which followed a man as he becomes a zombie and was made for $75 and a bag of crisps, is moving on to his next feature, titled The Coffin.
And what is The Coffin about? Well, it's about "an absent father who gatecrashes his young son's funeral, steals the coffin, and embarks on a momentous road trip with his ex-partner and two friends." Not exactly zombie fare, but still dealing with death.
Will Price strike gold twice? Remains to be seen, but we're wishing him and Colin actor Alastair Kirton nothing but good luck!

Marc Price, director of the low budget zombie film Colin , has begun principal photography on The Coffin . The Facebook page for Colin premiered a first look image which you can find below. Right now, the jury's out on whether this is a horror film or not. Thanks to Screen Daily, a synopsis has been revealed: The Coffin is the story of an absent father who gatecrashes his young son's funeral, steals the coffin, and embarks on a momentous road trip with his ex-partner and two friends. Sounds like a drama, unless this absent dad's dead kid rises from the grave. Alastair Kirton stars... Stay tuned for more.

Underground films cleaned up at the newly re-christened Syracuse International Horror, Science-Fiction & Fantasy Film Festival, with Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson’s The Taint and Stuart Simpson‘s El Monstro Del Mar! taking home top awards.
Formerly known as the B-Movie Film Festival, the 11th annual edition of the fest was held on Nov. 20-21 and screened nine genre-themed films, plus a block of shorts.
The Australian El Monstro Del Mar! has been winning awards all over the underground film circuit, including taking home prizes at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival, the Sydney Underground Film Festival and the Royal Flush Film Festival. And, thanks to Spooky Movie, which screened the film in October, I was able to see this gem of a monster movie throwback and can say it’s getting all the accolades it deserves.
The Taint has had a more modest success in the underground, but its reputation appears to be growing.

Did you know that anyone can make a zombie movie? It’s true because last year, my cat made a zombie movie, and this month I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of a zombie film made by Osama Bin Laden. Yes, these days anyone who’s anyone comes up with the brilliant idea to make yet another low budget zombie film.
That is perhaps why whenever someone asks me to watch their independent horror film featuring zombies, I turn a little bit sour. Truth be told I kind of hate zombies. This is blasphemous according to approximately 95% of horror fans but I can’t help it if the recent fad has turned me cynical against a once exciting and entertaining sub-genre.

Director Marc Price has a confession to make. At the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, the Welsh filmmaker became a major news story when journalists found out that he made his debut movie, a London-set zombie film called Colin, for just 45 pounds sterling, or around $70. To many, that budget seemed impossibly small, and Price now admits the figure was indeed an inaccurate one. “I don’t even know if it cost as much as 14 pounds,” he laughs. “The things that we definitely spent money on for the sole purpose of making the film would be a pack of video tapes, which we...

This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.
Predators
Directed by Nimród Antal
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.
Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

Indie zombie flick Colin has garnered much praise on the festival circuit, and for those of you still waiting patiently to glimpse director Mark Price's debut feature, you're in luck. The micro-budgeted horror film is lumbering onto DVD this October, courtesy of Walking Shadows.
From the Press Release
Breathing new life into the undead is the British horror phenomenon Colin, about the life of a zombie told through his own eyes, stalking onto DVD October 19.
The brainchild of British writer-director Marc Price (Midnight, the upcoming Thunderchild), Colin adds this original, unique perspective to a classic genre. Made for just $75, mostly spent on tea and cookies for his “zombies,” Price relied on friends and Facebook to cast his legion of undead extras.
In Colin, life bites (literally!) for Colin (Alastair Kirton, Midnight) when, after becoming a zombie snack, he dies and returns as one of the undead. Wandering aimlessly through the streets of London,...

Colin is a movie that keeps popping up in dicsussions with other movie fans. If you’ve not heard of it, it’s a British Zombie film that was made for a meagre £45. The difference between Colin and other Zombie movies is that this one is filmed from the point of view of the Zombie rather than the hero or heroin trying to avoid them!
Colin is written and directed by Marc Price and stars Alastair Kirton, Daisy Aitkens, Kate Alderman, Leanne Pammen, Tat Whalley and Kerry Owen.
I’ll do my best to bring you a review in the near future but in the meantime, Digital Spy have acquired the first five minutes of the movie which they have now placed in their website. Check it out here and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Things are winding down at the 42nd edition of Spain’s Sitges international film festival (see last report here and go here for the fest’s official site), yet there are dozens more genre flicks left to see. So many movies, so little time! When Monday, October 12 rolls around, the event will have screened nearly 150 flicks. And that doesn’t count encores, dozens of shorts and the free screenings held at the town’s Brigadoon theater, where retrospectives on Eurohorror actor Jack Taylor, Vampyres director José Larraz and schlockmeister Juan Piquer Simon (Pieces, Slugs), plus Asian and Bollywood sidebars, unreel for both moviegoers and beachcombers.
My day gets off to an early 10:30 a.m. start with Solomon Kane, the new film by Britain’s Michael J. Bassett, director of Deathwatch and Wilderness. The lead character (played by Rome’s James Purefoy) is based on Conan creator Robert E. Howard...

It isn't every day that a low budget indie zombie flick gets picked up for theatrical distribution, even if it is only a limited 6- to 15-screen release. But when said flick cost less than $100 to make, well then, it's time for some serious celebrating. Such is the case for Marc Price's Collin (review here), which is being released by Kaleidoscope Entertainment.
As CNN put it, a zombie movie made using a camcorder for less then the price of a DVD box set is set to be distributed in cinemas across the UK. Colin, made by budding British director Marc Price, will now get its own DVD as well as hitting the big screen in time for Halloween alongside Hollywood blockbusters like Zombieland. "It's kind of scary in a cool way," says Price of his success on a shoestring. Price says he spent $70 on "a crowbar and a couple of tapes,...

British filmmaker Marc Price of Nowhere Fast Productions has suddenly been attracting quite a lot of attention with his new, low-cost zombie drama Colin (see previous story here). Fango spoke to the writer/director last year about the making of his undead opus, while he was in the midst of postproduction; those comments follow below.
Colin, lensed in and around London and starring Alastair Kirton, Kate Alderman, Tat Whalley and Daisy Aitkens, focuses on the title character, who is bitten by a zombie and returns from the dead. He then makes his way though a suburban landscape in the midst of an undead plague, as the storyline balances the expected mayhem with an examination of who Colin was when he was alive.
“We started shooting in August 2007,” Price tells Fango, “and the first sequence shot was one in which over 40 zombies, packed into a house, are attacking the survivors of a documentary film crew.

The Bottom Line: A smart twist on the zombie genre that delivers a compelling story, a great soundtrack, and some amazingly effective gore effects despite a somewhat loose and unfocused plot.
One of the things I’ve loved about working with Quiet Earth is that it’s let me watch some indie zombie movies I never would have heard about otherwise. And while not all of them have been all that memorable (at least not for the right reasons), I’ve seen some real gems, including John Chance’s brilliant The Veil. And then along comes Colin, a movie that promises a twist to the zombie genre: in this film, we see the zombie apocalypse through a zombie’s perspective. For once, we’re not dealing with dopey humans...
