Belén Cuesta and Gemma Whelan will join Albert San Juan in Disney+’s first Spanish period drama Balenciaga (working title).
The pair are two of several actors unveiled today for Lourdes Iglesias, Jose Mari Goenaga, Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi’s six-part drama about Cristóbal Balenciaga (San Juan), the son of a seamstress and a fisherman who uses his natural talent, constant work and sharp nose for business to become one of the most prominent fashion designers of all time.
It began filming in June and will continue until autumn in several locations in Spain and France with a team of 100 professionals and 2,000 extras.

Belgium's Queen Fabiola has received a new death threat. Police have launched a fresh investigation after Belgian newspaper La Demiere-heure received another letter containing "clear threats" towards the widow of King Baudouin. A police spokesman said: "There is a letter and an investigation is underway." The newspaper revealed yesterday (04.01.10) that it had received a black and white postcard which featured "the same signature" which appeared on earlier threats sent in May and July last year. Editor-in-chief Hubert Leclercg said: "It contained very clear threats." Fabiola has always stayed relaxed about these letters and even mocked threats made against her last year. The Belgian royal family has denied Queen Fabiola is ill. Spokesman Pierre-Emmanuel De Bauw insists the 81-year-old dowager-queen has simply been "too tired" to attended recent royal events.
